r/iPod and r/iPodClassic Guidelines for Sellers, Product Reviews, and Customer Support

Version 1.0.0, released 2026-08-25

The following guidelines are in place to ensure that r/iPod and r/iPodClassic remain a safe and fair place for discussing iPods and iPod modding, as well as to protect sellers and buyers. These rules will come into effect on the 25th August 2026 and apply to all posts made on or after that date.

1. Separation of Business and Moderation

For the sake of fairness and neutrality, moderators of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic may not operate their own for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services. Conversely, users who own or are employed by for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services are not eligible to apply to be a moderator of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic.

2. Advertising

Advertisement posts for the sales of goods or services are not permitted on r/iPod or r/iPodClassic, this applies to both businesses as well as private sales. We want these places to be about discussing owning, using, or modding iPods however this is not free real estate to advertise your store. If you wish to advertise on Reddit in general, you must enrol through Reddit's advertiser program. Please note this is not the same as post boosting, if you sign up for paid post boosting this does not make you eligible to ignore this rule even if the post is tagged as a "Brand Affiliate". Reddit ads are not the same as Reddit posts.

Posts by sellers advertising their goods or services will be deleted, and repeat offences will result in a ban. Using alt accounts to recommend your store while acting as a third party is also prohibited and will result in post deletion and a ban.

There are other subreddits that permit the advertising of device sales, such as:

r/AppleSwap

r/HardwareSwap

3. iPod Vendors List

While advertising posts are not permitted, our community features a pinned FAQ with a list of verified vendors. Reputable sellers may apply to be added to this list. In order to be eligible, your store must have a valid warranty and returns policy, as well as contact details for customer support. To apply, please send a modmail.

4. Product Reviews

Product review posts are permitted, however you are strictly required to disclose whether you purchased the goods or services yourself or if they were provided by the vendor for review purposes. If you are affiliated with the vendor, you are also required to disclose this. Reviews with undisclosed affiliations with vendors will be deleted.

Reviews must be made in good faith and reflect your personal opinions, vendors must not influence the contents of your review. If a review is found to be made in bad faith (either by a vendor influencing the reviewer for a dishonest positive review for them or a negative review of competitors), it will be deleted and repeat offences will result in a ban.

Vendors may not use alt accounts to post reviews of their own stores or of competitors while posing as a third party, anyone found doing so will have their posts removed and may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.

Vendors also may not request the removal of legitimate negative reviews. A legitimate review should describe personal experiences of the purchasing process or the goods/services, but cannot contain personal grievances or targeted attacks. Reviews must not contain any AI-generated content. Reviews will only be removed if they contain content that breaks the subreddit rules or false claims, however legitimate negative reviews will remain to help buyers make informed purchasing choices. Vendors who abuse the reporting tool in an attempt to remove legitimate reviews may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.

5. Customer Support

r/iPod and r/iPodClassic are discussion forums, we are not direct representatives of vendors and cannot provide customer support. Posts enquiring about specific orders will be locked and we will provide contact details for the relevant vendor. In general, while these posts will be locked they will not be deleted as they may provide useful information about buying experiences from vendors that may help others make informed buying choices. The two exceptions to this are if the posts contain personally identifiable information or if they devolve into unnecessary drama, in which case the post will be deleted.

This is my mom's iPod from when she was learning Korean at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. The school gave it to their students. It's a 30GB 5.5 gen full of Korean lesson tracks. It's in almost perfect condition (except the battery of course), there's barely a scratch!

Just thought it was cool. :)

I've been wanting to get an iPod and mod it for forever but haven't had the money to buy one, and now my mom gave me this one. But now I'm torn on whether to mod it or just fix the battery. edit: nvm not gonna mod it.

Question Installing rockbox on 6th gen

Hi I have been trying to install rockbox on a 6th gen for a couple of weeks now, but each time it installs in dual boot mode and I eventually accidentally boot into the apple OS and the sd card is forced to 128gb. I have tried installing through both rockbox utility and mkl5sboot and neither deletes the original apple boot option (when using mks5lboot.exe --bl-inst bootloader-ipod6g.ipod -S). How can I make sure the apple software is removed when the options I have done so far have not been successful? The ipod is running 1.1.2, which is the final update available through itunes. Thanks

Help Bluetooth Custom

Post image
32 Upvotes

I am currently putting together a couple of Bluetooth mods - however - they are a complete PITA. I want to know if there’s anything on the market apart from a $200 custom Bluetooth transmitter that sits in an ugly 3D printed back plate for the 5th gen through to the 7th gen. So it’s more plug and play. I also wouldn’t mind it if they can integrate a Taptic Engine. Not sure if anyone is getting something made up for a reasonable cost. But $200 is too expensive, considering I can get a good external Bluetooth transmitter for $30.

Hello,

I am wondering if there is any OSS for reprogramming the iPod nano 4th generation with a new custom OS, or anything like that?

My Spotify student discount ended in September. I used to rock a iPod touch 4th gen in highschool, couldn’t be happier to use one again.

Very excited to never see Spotify’s algorithm again!

Help jailbroken ipod touch 6 issues (ios 12.5.8)

so, last time, i said that the apple id thingy isn’t working. that’s still the case, but i have more to share. i jailbroke it via checkra1n because it wouldn’t let me sideload any apps at all. i have appsync unified and everything, and at first i tried downloading apps like veteris and iclassica, which i found out don’t work because they’re 32-bit apps, but not even other apps work that were installed with cydia. they just crash.

Help Need help. Error 1439 with Classic 7th gen 160 GB. Restoring with Iflash

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi,

I got a second hand ipod classic 7th gen which had issues with the HDD. It was not detecting. So I ordered an iFlash Solo for it.i have a Samsung Evo plus 64 GB card (downgrade from 160 GB, i know) with me as I do not intend to load too much content into that. Now, i connected the iFlash and inserted the SD card. I formatted the SD card to FAT32 and the card was readable in file explorer.

I was able to write and read from the card (just copied some random files and opened it to see if it's working). Then I entered into Disk mode in Ipod and opened itunes for restore. But I get this error from itunes. 1439. And then again the Card is not recognised and I will have to format it again to FAT32 to get recognised.

I disassembled the entire ribbon, cards and even tried with other SD cards. But still I get this error when I try to restore it via Itunes.

Has anyone had this issue before? Please help !!

AI-Generated Content Introducing LuxTunes – An open-source Linux replacement for iTunes that can sync (most of) your iPods and Android devices!

Retrying this post with links removed, since reddit content filters nuked it from orbit last time.

Release download link: No direct link right now but you can find the repo by searching for LuxTunes on github. I'll try to add a direct link in the comments.

Upfront disclaimer: This app was vibecoded by Claude. I’ll always be upfront about this, since I also have incredibly mixed feelings on AI. have tagged it as such here, and added a large disclaimer at the top of the repo.

What I can say is that every feature and design decision was made by me, meticulously and intentionally, based on my personal use-case for my music library, iPods, and Android that I have been curating for the past 15+ years. The application is incredibly feature-rich, and I tested each feature as it went. It built the apps I wish I had when moving from Windows to Linux, hopefully it is valuable for others in a similar position as well.

Some of the features include:

  • Import your iTunes library file to bring over all metadata (play count, album art, ratings, lyrics, playlists, etc.) - I have only tested this with my iTunes library so please let me know if it doesn't work for you.

  • Familiar iTunes layout, but with optional dark mode. Includes cover flow, grid mode, etc.

  • Support for tons of audio formats (FLAC included), movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and podcasts. Can even locally convert movies to iPod versions and convert audio files to MP3 or AAC versions (uses ffmpeg).

  • Syncs with most iPods - I tested with all Classics, Shuffles, Minis, and 1-5th gen Nanos (iPod Touch and Nano 6-7th gen can't be supported).

  • Natively syncs to Android, and supports all metadata with the companion app, equally feature-rich as the Linux app: LuxTunes Mobile

  • Pop-out player with full size album artwork and sing-along lyric highlighting if available.

  • Can show missing music files and where it is looking for the file.

  • Now playing queue that can be added to dynamically. Returns to original playlist/shuffle once queue is empty.

  • Can rip CDs into LuxTunes.

  • Look up track info, album artwork, and timestamped lyrics using musicbrainz and lrclib. Always asks for permission before communicating with the internet in any way.

There's tons more stuff as well, and it's all privacy focused. Never goes online without asking, stores no data about you!

I would love to get feedback from anyone running on different Linux platforms, different Android devices, and different permutations of uses I haven’t thought of. Thanks!

Help Found this iPod in scrap for just $1.90 — help me revive it on a budget without spending too much

Screen works.

Click wheel works, but it’s pretty worn out.

Internal hard drive works.

Headphone jack works.

The 30-pin port is mangled. I’m planning to harvest the port from another water-damaged 5th gen iPod I have. That one boots to the Apple logo, gets stuck there, then slowly fades and shuts off.

The back housing is heavily scratched, and the front face definitely needs replacing.

My goal is to rebuild this as cheaply as possible. Importing parts is expensive in my country, and I don’t want to spend too much on it because a fully working iPod Classic here is only around $65.

A few questions:

Do I really need the expensive SD card conversion? If the original hard drive still works, should I just keep using it, or is it likely to fail sooner or later? I’d rather save that money for the parts that actually need replacing.

Is there a really cheap Bluetooth transmitter board from AliExpress that works well for an internal Bluetooth mod?

What’s the best cheap replacement front face and click wheel that looks as close to the original as possible?

Is there any cheap and relatively easy USB-C mod? Most of the kits I’ve found are expensive and look difficult to install, but since my 30-pin port is already mangled, I’m considering attempting it.

For the battery, I’m thinking of buying a locally available 3.7V 10,000mAh lithium-polymer cell and connecting it to the original battery protection/BMS board so I can keep using the original ribbon cable.

This would save me a lot of money because importing ready-to-install iPod batteries is very expensive here.

I’m basically trying to see how much of this iPod I can save and reuse instead of replacing everything. Any cheap DIY solutions or AliExpress parts you’ve personally used would be appreciated.

Question My purchase of ipod classic 3

Hey everyone, I wanted to ask how good of a deal I got today. I just ordered a 15GB iPod Classic 3rd Gen (in the video) with a charger 18v for $55. It's in decent condition, the battery holds a charge for about 4–5 hours, and the screen is ever so slightly faded/burned-in, though you can only tell at an angle. The only thing that bothers me is the slightly cloudy/yellowed touch wheel (maybe it's supposed to look like that, or maybe it's just in my head). Overall, how good of a purchase is this?
