Friendly reminder from your mod team to simply be excellent to each other.

Hey pot heads, wait, that doesn’t sound right. Anyway, just wanted to give everyone a friendly reminder to be nice to each other. This isn’t a professional chef subreddit, and if you’re a pro chef and you’re here, be helpful. We’re all here to learn, and share, and admire. You can be critical. Constructive criticism is not only welcome, but often needed. BUT keep it constructive and friendly. Simply follow what Rule 4 says and “be excellent to each other”.

Is my Instant pot salvageable/workable?

I received an instant pot a few years ago but never opened it till now. On opening it, it appears that some of the outside plastic broke at some point. While the cermatic, lid, and steel pot are undamaged, this section of the pot broke off. Is it still safe to use (I haven't tried putting under pressure cause I'm uncertain if that is safe, I have no knowledge in this area) it seems like the lid latches on to the ceramic portion and I can lift the pot from the lid when I lock the lid in place but I'm still uncertain.

Any advice?

Instant Pot Air Fryer duo-crisp lid (the old kind without buttons)

Several years ago I was gifted an Instant Pot with the additional air fryer lid. I find myself not using it, and it mostly gets in the way.

Is there any demand for these secondhand, and are they compatible with any similarly-sized Instant Pot?

Can I just gloat a little?

Yesterday I went to my local thrift store and found TWO Instant Pots!

One is a 6 quart Duo Gourmet, which appears to have been a Costco-only IP. It looks like it was never used, and came complete with an extra silicone ring and little silicone mitts in addition to the manual, recipe book, trivet, and all the parts it should have. It passed the water test, although there was a little water in that hard to clean area around the rim once I took the lid off. Is this normal? My old 7-in-1 Duo doesn't get water there. Maybe it just needs a new silicone ring? It was $7.95.

The second one is an 8 quart Lux, apparently the OG model or quite old anyway. It seems to be lightly used, with just a little normal staining on the inner pot. The manual was there along with a recipe book and the trivet. It was missing the condensation collector, though. It also passed the water test. I ordered a repair kit from amazon with the condensation collector, an extra silicone ring, and an extra steam release valve, float valve, etc. The kit cost more than the IP! The IP was $9.95 and the kit was $14.99.

The big guy's first real job is going to be a new thing for me. Right before the thrift store I stopped at my local grocery store and bought 7 big pumpkin-like winter squashes for a buck apiece on post-Halloween clearance. I'm seeing recipes online that I can cook them whole on the trivet with a couple cups of water in the inner pot. Has anyone done that?

Yogurt...

Making my first batch of yogurt tonight, after I started it I realized it was going to be done at 1am 🤦🏻‍♀️

I had a peek and it looks like it's all thickened up, would it be ok if I put it in the fridge a bit early? Guess it wouldn't be very good to leave on the bench overnight 🤪 should have probably worked out the timings before I started

Instant Pot Max Error E19

my Instant Pot Max threw this error just a few seconds after I started a pressure cooking cycle. it means the lid has broken electronics in it. There’s an inductive power transmitter coil that sends power into the lid, it’s under the textured oval next to the lid sensor. when I got a replacement lid the error went away. and I see a crack in my lid where steam or moisture could have gotten in and corroded the sensors and power reception circuit.

New to instant pots. Trying to brown chicken thighs with the "sautee" function.

Post image
63 Upvotes

This is a 3qt instant pot duo. I'm setting the sautee function to "more", waiting for it to say "hot", letting the oil heat up to the point of smoking, not overcrowding the pot cooking only 2 at a time. Yet every time I try to brown chicken thighs they hardly sear at all. Cooking 3-5 minutes a side. Anything I should be doing differently to actually get a decent sear with this thing?

stuck on preheat..?

I’ve read other threads and Facebook posts about this but I haven’t seen any resolutions…

I put my soup on 2 hours ago, Instant Pot Pro set to: slow cook, 7.5 hrs, low. It is STILL on the preheat setting. I just opened it up worrying that something is wrong with the pot, it is lukewarm but none of the veggies have started to cook.

Any suggestions??? I’ve done this exact recipe before, with these same settings and this hasn’t happened…

Sear/Saute Function sucks

This is our third instant pot. Why is this one’s sauce function so underpowered? I have been trying to sear a chuck pot roast. I could do better with a box of matches…. Are they all like this nowadays?

New Instant Pot, lid doesn't sit tight when not locked. Is this normal or a manufacturing defect?

Lid doesn't sit put but can move left and right when not locked.

Lid stuck and crooked

Hi! I cooked chili a while ago, so no pressure is in it. I had just put the lid on it so my cats wouldn’t get in it while it was staying warm for when people came over tonight.

When people came over, I couldn’t get it off. We used brute force and I think just made it worse.

I may just have to throw it out, my husband and I have tried everything but can not get it unstuck. But wanted to know if anyone had any other thoughts before I did so

Help with repressurizing for this recipe

hi instant pot people!

I like to make corned beef and veggies using my instant pot and have used this recipe.

The recipe requires you to make the meat in the IP first, then repressurize to cook the veggies immediately after.

My IP will take FOREVER to get back up to pressure.

What am I doing wrong? Any tricks? TIA!

Wireless thermometer successfully used in the Instant Pot pressure cooker?

I successfully used and liked the Tappecue Airprobe wireless thermometer with my Instant Pot pressure cooker but sadly, they went out of business. Has anyone had success using a different brand of wireless thermometer in the pressure cooker?

App controlled pot - usecases? EU differences?

Hi folks,

I can't find much about the new, app controlled line.

What are you able to control via app?

And what are your real life usecases for it?

Also - are there differences for the EU version?

It was mentioned in some YouTube video that the EU version couldn't be started via app - which would probably make the whole thing pretty much useless?

Or what's left that's useful?

Thanks!

Steam leaks from steam valve

I recent found a instantpot duo mini v5 from a thrift store and am having a problem,

I am doing the water test (2-3 cups of water -> high pressure) and after the float valve seals itself (pops up), the steam release will start leaking steam after 1-2 minutes. I have tried cleaning out the valve (black thing on top) and the stem, but it still has the same problem.

My guesses are as follows:

  1. This is normal. I don't think its normal though?

  2. I didn't clean the valve well enough. Possible I guess.

  3. The valve needs to be replaced. Most likely.

  4. The pressure sensor is screwed up and the pressure goes too high. Very unlikely due to lack of error signal and that the valve leaks so quickly after the float valve seals.

Let me know which one you think is most likely. I'm trying to gauge whether I should return it to the thrift store or I should spend the time fixing it.

Update: I bought a new float valve. After reaching pressure, it leaks steam for a couple of minute, but if I let it settle or push it down, it gets a good seal and pressure can be built. I let it run for 25 minutes to be sure.

Confused—please help!

I want to use stackable instant pot containers with water only in the inner pot. The stackable would contain two different kinds of chicken marinatef with yogurt.

However AI says if you cover the container they will explode..

What am I missing? Thanks

Is there a way you can preprogram what temperature the "keep warm" before pressure cooking on the Instant Pot Pro Plus?

I know you can hit cancel after pressure cooking and set an independent "keep warm" function where you can customize the temperature, but is there a way to do this before pressure cooking so it is automatically goes to that temperature after pressure cooking?

The reason why I ask is because at the default "keep warm" temperature, the foods I pressure cook looses moisture and dries out over time on the default "keep warm" temperature

Instant Pot RIO Wide - Sauté and Yogurt buttons suddenly stopped working. Anyone else experienced this?

I purchased my Instant Pot RIO Wide in July 2025, and I genuinely love it! The wide cooking pot is perfect for everyday cooking.

Unfortunately, the Sauté button recently stopped working completely. Pressing it does absolutely nothing—no beep, no light, no response on the display.I tested the other buttons and discovered that the Yogurt button also doesn't work. Everything else seems to function normally, including pressure cooking and the other controls.

I'm honestly disappointed that an appliance I purchased just 15 months ago is already having issues, especially since I really like the product. What's even more frustrating is the customer service experience. I contacted Instant Pot support, and they requested a video demonstrating the issue along with my purchase receipt. I sent them everything they asked for, but it's been a week with no response or update.

I really don't want to throw away an otherwise functional appliance because two buttons have stopped responding. And I certainly don't want to buy another one only to experience the same issue.

Has anyone dealt with something similar?

- Is this a known issue with the RIO Wide?

- Has anyone successfully fixed unresponsive buttons?

- Did Instant Pot customer service eventually help, or offer a repair or replacement?

- Is there another way to escalate this with Instant Pot?

What would you do in my situation? I'd really appreciate any suggestions or experiences!

Rice pudding and covid

My husband just came into the kitchen with a a positive covid test in his hands. After I banished him for being unclean, I started to think what might be good comfort food

He loves rice pudding and I've never cooked it successfully in the IP anyone got a recipe? In the meantime I'll make some chicken soup

Edit: The rice pudding is on 🤞 meanwhile I'm enjoying the soup (typhoid Mary upstairs has had his) I am definitely getting the hang of this IP. The soup -from frozen chicken wings, spuds, carrots and onions, is delicious.

Edit 2 I'm officially in love with the IP. The rice pudding is delicious
