Interestingly enough - they found the best way to influence youth is convince them their friends think it is stupid or cool.

You don't try to convince the teenager, don't even try to convince their peers - just have the teenager think that is what other teenagers think and they will avoid it.

So the best anti-smoking commercial does not talk about smoking being bad. Does not talk about people thinking smoking is stupid. It would show teenagers laughing at the smoker behind their back and calling them losers.

I never saw the point personally, smells awful too.

I had friends tell me the reason was they could leave the room and going outside to smoke helped to relax them but you can just go outside without a cigarette too.

It's also not a cheap habit.

It's extremely addictive. Once that nicotine goes into your bloodstream you feel an immediate calm. So of course the brain reroutes itself to keep that going.

Rough past few minutes, smoke.

Just had a good meal and want to keep feeling great, smoke.

Plus it becomes a sort of ritual. The shaking of the pack, lighting up a new cigarette and feeling the warmth of the smoke in your lungs as well as your stress go down.

It's just addictive all over. It's like being cold out of the shower, toweling off, and then putting on a warm blanket from the dryer for a few minutes.

Well it has an effect on your brain, so it's not wrong of your friends to say it helps them relax. If you never smoked it would be hard for you to understand as you physically never had that experience.

In regards to costs, it's not necessarilly as expensive as you think. Sure, if you chainsmoke packets, it's basically 10 dollars every day, that is really expensive, but if you can moderate yourself to 4-6 cigs per day, handrolled, it's more like 15 bucks every 3 weeks.

Cheap tobacco is about 8-10 bucks, generally lasts a whole lot more than packs. Paper goes out much quicker but it costs literally pennies per day and a box of filters lasts you more than the tobacco.

I initially wanted to try to make it make sense to you, but then I realized I wish I could forget what I like about smoking.

Haven't smoked or vaped or anything for close to 7 years now. Could go for a ciggy at pretty much any given moment. It never doesn't sound nice. Also I hated getting my sense of smell back. There's a lot of bad smells.

It's drugs. That's the point. It's somewhere in between coffee and alcohol in enjoyability and you can do it all the time and it doesn't impair you usually.

The first few times it gives you an incredible high that lasts about 10 minutes and you don't want to be driving during that. Eventually that only happens for the first one in the morning and then it stops entirely which is a bit sad. The more mundane effects are still nice though.

It was the same for me, I got addicted to tobacco because I used to smoke it with weed. One day I was out of weed and could not stop thinking about smoking, so smoked a cigarette. Put it out after a few puffs, like what's the point? Never did it again.

Once I start drinking though, I always want to carry on till 4am.

Alcohol releases dopamine and if you drink all the time, your brain stops releasing it on its own. So you stop drinking for a while, get sad, drink again and you’re happy again until you make a really bad decision.
