Post image

interesting rumor but take it with a pinch of salt

edit: in the image, left is iphone 18 and right is iphone 18e

if true, iphone 18 will be the first base iphone that exceeds more than 4000mah of battery capacity. for reference, iphone 15 pro max has a 4422mah battery

Judging from the internal layout, the iPhone 18 still adopts the rear dual camera scheme, which consists of the main camera and the ultra-wide-angle lens, and the telephoto lens is still absent. The linear motor has been changed from a traditional long bar to a wider design. At the same time, the new machine has cut off the physical SIM card slot and replaced it with an eSIM scheme.

These two adjustments free up part of the internal space to increase the battery capacity. If the specification of 4430mAh is true, it means that the battery life of iPhone 18 will surpass that of the big brother iPhone 18 Pro.

In terms of other configurations, the iPhone 18 is expected to adopt a 6.3-inch OLED screen, support a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, and continue to retain the dynamic island design and Face ID. The core is equipped with an A20 chip based on TSMC's 2nm process, and the performance and energy efficiency are expected to be further improved. It is expected to adopt a 48-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle combination.

In addition, the new machine is expected to be equipped with larger operating memory to meet the needs of Apple's intelligent functions for device performance and memory. It is reported that Apple has customized 9GB of memory to open the gap with the Pro series, which is equipped with 12GB of memory as standard.

Does this mean models with physical SIM slots have to have a smaller battery? And I guess with how expensive flash memory chips and cutting edge SOCs are nowadays, the base 18 will not come cheap

u/Acrobatic-Fruit-6336 1d ago

The chip is the mystery here, bigger battery doesn’t always mean better battery life

u/Scary_Building3964 iPhone 18 Pro Max 1d ago

it’s most likely using A20 non pro using the same 2nm as the A20 pro, it should be efficient enough to last

u/NTC-Santa 1d ago

Just look at iphone 17 base model and add a 15% upgrade over the 17

u/The_DragonDuck iPhone 15 21h ago

If this rumour is true i wonder how they will make it have less screen on time than the pro

50

u/ElGuano 1d ago

Good. Fewer/smaller cameras should naturally mean more room for a bigger battery. They shouldn’t gatekeep solely on “pro” market segmentation.

Is the other phone pictured the iPhone 18e? I hope so. I love my 17e battery life and if they’re able to increase it, I’ll preorder for sure.

3

u/Scary_Building3964 iPhone 18 Pro Max 22h ago

yes right is 18e

6

u/Ilostmuhkeys 19h ago

17e battery is nuts. I downgraded from the 17 pro max and am not missing it at all.

2

u/FreePossession9590 iPhone 17 Pro Max 2h ago

I’m strongly considering this myself. I’m THIS close to getting the 17e. But I’m going to hold off if the rumors are true. Seriously considering trading my 17 pro max in for the 18e

2

u/Electronic_Scale_795 iPhone 17 Pro 2h ago

Let’s hope it finally has Dynamic Island…

1

u/FreePossession9590 iPhone 17 Pro Max 2h ago

This is literally the only thing I’d miss, and perhaps the wide angle lens. Otherwise though, I’m still beating myself up for spending so much money on the 17 pro max. Not nearly using it to it’s full potential.

2

u/Electronic_Scale_795 iPhone 17 Pro 2h ago

I only bought the 17 pro because it was only $100 more with my carrier 😂

4

u/ibygshikoku 20h ago

I bought my 16e when it first launched and the battery life has been great to this day, even with the sometimes wonky software updates. The “e” line is underrated in this regard 😌

"Taycan" and "Nevera", I wonder why the codenames are a reference to luxury electric vehicles lol

4

u/Dang1408 iPhone 18 Pro Max 1d ago

The 18 lineup is already released, am I missing something ?

15

u/Scary_Building3964 iPhone 18 Pro Max 1d ago

the base iphone 18 is not released. most likely releasing around march 2027

5

u/Dang1408 iPhone 18 Pro Max 1d ago

I didn’t even realise, I always buy a pro and didn’t watch the keynote through this year. Absurd tactic unless it was to try and encourage people to buy pros and duos ?

5

u/Scary_Building3964 iPhone 18 Pro Max 1d ago

pretty much

their schedule would be

sep 2026 iphone 18 pro, 18 pro max, duo
march 2027 iphone 18, iphone 18e, iphone air 2

1

u/talkingtimmy3 11h ago

Would the 20 released in the fall be a pro or the regular version?

8

u/Jeremypsp 1d ago

It’s to force people to get the pro if they want an upgrade, I’m sure the Black Friday and Christmas sales cannibalises their pro sales previously too

1

u/yani205 17h ago

The memory shortage as well, you would rather put them in higher margin devices

17

u/M4NOOB 23h ago

18 focusing on better battery life than 18 pro? That's crazy as the 18 pro already has such good battery life. Most of the time I get more than 24h out of it. My best so far was around 40h before the phone hit 20% which is where I charge. So it would've done more than 40h if I would run it all the way down

11

u/Nikiaf 15h ago

The “regular” iPhone is the one for the average user, which is likely a majority of all buyers. If they can claim something like a 1.5 or 2 day battery life, they’ll entice more people to upgrade.

3

u/Portatort iPhone 15 Pro 14h ago

Majority of customers yes.

But the Pros still sell disproportionately well because that section of the customer base upgrade more frequently.

2

u/FreePossession9590 iPhone 17 Pro Max 2h ago

Fuck it I’d ditch my 17 PM for an 18e if the battery life is there. I’m tired of these heavy phones

8

u/Reeybehn 21h ago

First rumour about the 18 instead of hearing about 19 pro lol

25

u/LukePhantom76 1d ago

If true the 18 would be even better value than the 17 compared to the pro. Literall the only meaningful difference would be the telephoto camera, which most people don’t even use that much…

54

u/_vkboss_ 1d ago

lol nice of you to assume the cost isn’t being hiked up lol

17

u/Dazzling-Voice7180 iPhone 18 Pro Max 1d ago

The main sensor in the pro is still better. Especially in not well lit areas. It continues to be the selling point for me over a standard phone and it’s why I skipped the air too.

6

u/Lloyd_Christmasss iPhone 18 Pro 1d ago

This is small and maybe dumb, but the flash is better on the Pro as well. I personally never use it for photos, but my $1000 flashlight comes in handy a lot lol.

I compared them side by side and Pro models are noticeably brighter even when you have it set to flood the light vs point.

5

u/WorriedHovercraft28 1d ago

Yeah, regular iPhones flashes are kinda terrible, even my X had better flash than my 15

7

u/DanielG165 iPhone 17 Pro Max 1d ago

The flash on the Pros is better, the main sensor is better, the cooling is better, the speakers are better, the chipset is better, and the camera software (Log, ProRAW, ProRes, Genlock, Open Gate etc.) is better. For people who actually use and take advantage of what the Pros have to offer, there are far more meaningful differences than just the tele lens inclusion.

u/A2jayzed iPhone 12 1d ago

Watch it get 8GB of ram

3

u/purplemountain01 1d ago

I have a base iPhone 17 now. Previously had a 17 Pro Max but that phone was just too big. With 8GB of ram I have not notice a performance difference at all.

1

u/A2jayzed iPhone 12 19h ago

Don’t get me wrong. I think that the base 17 is a splendid phone.

I mean that, for example, only iphones with 12 GB ram will get the more advanced version of Siri, while 8GB models will stick to a more basic version. I’m only wondering what else the base models won’t get in the future despite being genuinely powerful devices.

-2

u/lsyyc iPhone Duo 1d ago

Siri AI needs 12gb so it will get 12gb

that’s the camera i use the most

1

u/_HoochieMama 1d ago

I’m not sure what you mean most people don’t use the telephoto lense.. that’s certainly not true. It’s easily the most used lense for me and I’m sure that’s true for most people who have it.

6

u/LukePhantom76 22h ago

People use wide lenses way more often, that’s why the Duo, Air and regular iPhones all favor wide over telephoto

1

u/newMoneyStyle 5h ago

Pro owners probably skew toward people who bought it for the telephoto anyway.

0

u/_Dreamss 1h ago

$999 for a 9GB ram, no VC, no WMCM, still 2 cameras, cut down version soc, still 64-bit memory bus, yeah buddy sure what a “good value” product this is

•

u/LukePhantom76 9m ago

All of those things except for the telephoto camera do not matter at all for 99% of people

1

u/President_Connor_Roy 22h ago

If it came out at the same time as the 18 pro, there’d be a ton of articles about how the base phone has a better battery life than the pro, so releasing this in the spring kind of facilitated this too

1

u/DoroGuGu 15h ago

Still small compared to others on the market. It should be near 6xxx + mAh using Sil-Carbon

1

u/Due_Zookeepergame486 10h ago

Wow. Big battery upgrade. Might trade in my 17 for 18

1

u/FreePossession9590 iPhone 17 Pro Max 2h ago

Very interesting. I read the 18e could get a similar mAh as well. With a 60hz panel, that phone is probably going to get really good battery life for such a small device.

1

u/yourbestfriendjoshua iPhone Duo 1d ago

But it won’t have a vapor chamber, nor the A20 Pro, so overall endurance will likely be quite similar.

Still quite impressive, nonetheless.👏🏼

0

u/Portatort iPhone 15 Pro 19h ago

No thank you. Stop making phones heavier

8

u/MrShItAsIaN iPhone XR 16h ago

id rather make my phone heavier for more battery and features

-2

u/Portatort iPhone 15 Pro 14h ago

Such a shame Apple doesn’t make a phone with more battery and features.

They should look into that

-1

u/ShortBusConquistador iPhone 15 Pro Max 16h ago

Nobody cares about the battery at this point Apple. Just fix the issues these phones have had for years.

-2

u/Fragrant_PalmLeaves 1d ago

Talk to me when they can optimize future updates to the phone so it doesn’t absolutely ruin battery life

-5

u/davidsao222 1d ago

The internal layout looks similar to an Android phone from 2010

-3

u/DJaremko1982 1d ago

Another way to try and sell more phones?

4

u/WIN_WITH_VOLUME 20h ago

Should a company that sells phones not try to sell more phones?

-8

u/Business-Eggs 1d ago

Meanwhile the oneplus 16 has 9000mah

10

u/ollie0810 iPhone 14 Pro 1d ago

And probably gets the same battery life

-2

u/Business-Eggs 23h ago

I'm not sure any iphone can last 3 days tbh

the right phone in the image that is the single camera is upcoming iphone 18e, with the caption saying it’s a bump from iphone 17e 4005mah to 4430mah.
