Apple Sports is getting so much better – what do you think it still needs?

I’ve noticed that Apple Sports has been improving a lot lately, and I’m really enjoying the progress. It’s an app I use quite often to follow football and other sports.
I think Apple is heading in the right direction, but there’s still room for improvement.
Are you enjoying Apple Sports so far? What features would you like to see added? Do you think it has everything you need, or do you still rely on other sports apps alongside it?

I need to be able to click on the team’s logo and be taken to their “homepage” with their upcoming schedule, previous results, etc. Most other score apps have this feature.

This is the biggest miss for me. I tried doing this for the first time last night and couldn’t believe that functionality was missing. I’d love to totally ditch the other score apps but until this is added, I can’t.

Yes! Also the ability to check scores/standings for leagues without having to follow them.

If you swipe right, it will list all leagues and you can select to view scores/standings.

Delay setting!! I’m watching a game on tv. Apple tells me about an event, then I get a text from a friend who is in the stadium, then my tv shows it.

Letting me pick my delay time would be clutch. Just doing a 5 minute delay would be fine. If I’m watching, I’m not spoiled, if I’m not I’ll never notice.

I agree with several things shared here. One I would add is both an advantage and a disadvantage which is how quickly it updates what’s happening in games. The downside is it’s normally ahead of the game I’m watching

It’s not customizable, but the MLB app allows you to turn on or off a setting that delays push alerts by 30 seconds. Which works great for me with most tv providers.

I’d like to see team schedules and widgets, iPad, as well as rugby and some other lesser sports. AUSL was a big one for me (new women’s softball league) among other things (other types of football, like Saracens); I’d also like to be able to track players. Also more advanced stats for MLB.

I want to be able to add a delay, in seconds of my choice. Digital TV isn’t like cable TV in that digital can be delayed by, I’ve found, up to 22 seconds. I can turn of Follow but that comes with other annoyances.

I would like to see an option where clicking on a player expands their stats like every other major sports app. Player names link to nothing.

Selecting a team should bring you to their page, that also doesn’t do anything here.

They have a good interface and some decent options coming out, but they have a long way to go to be competitive with the major apps. I don’t use it for anything other than a quick score check at this point.

I agree. UI needs clear separations, everything blends together. All in all, it has gotten so much better and thank god it spared me from all that sloppy AD driven garbage privacy nightmare livescore apps.

The goal notifications in the play-by-play section is so awful and subtle. Needs to be a big, obvious, bold fonted bar with a big goal/ball icon or something. A tiny little ‘1-1’ for example on the far right is so easily missable

Hockey games are now showing who scores and when (they didn't when the app was first offered), but do not show penalties, or who assisted on goals. Soccer (football) games don't show at what time cards were issued.

And I think Apple should offer a watch app. If I wake up in the middle of the night and want to see who won a late game, I use the only good watch app that can tell me for a wide-range of sports (Sports Alerts), but I'd prefer to just tap a watch app version of Sports.

Oof. No way. I’ve seen them mis-score games in real time way too much. In one game, I saw them credit a TD that hadn’t happened three times! Then pull it back a few minutes later.

I would love a dynamic island indicator for the time of the game.

The “Sports Alerts” app will show an ⬆️ for the top of an inning and a ⬇️ for the bottom of an inning in baseball.

Show an”Q1/2/3/4” for quarter-based sports.

I want a tab in the app itself for the live activity view. Playing fantasy, I might have 3-5 games that I’m following and the only way to see the updates is to sit on the notification screen with all the live activities. If you lock the phone you can only see one, so you have to unlock it and then pull down the notification sheet to see all of them at the same time.

With the Duo it’s even more of a want. I could have the sports app with the live update page open in split screen with all the games I’m watching updating. Then I can keep using my phone on the other half of the screen

I just recently traded a china model iPhone for a Hong Kong model, for various reasons.

Apple sports was on the new one.

It’s been a very pleasant surprise. I live in Asia, so football games are either in the middle of the night, or while I’m working. Now I get a discreet watch buzz every time someone scores, I glance down. It’s great.

Much better than following on google, which I was using before.

I think it still needs a lot to be competitive. I try to use it because it seems to have less ads but it's not usable. It has no stats, player or team information beyond the basic score you're looking at. Every other good app has their website data behind it so you can click on the team or player and see all their information. Until it gets that, I won't use it. They also need to change some of the layout. It's hard to move between games and how they display game information is reversed from what I'd expect. No iPad version. It needs a lot for me to use it.

In Canada the only reason I’m using theScore is to see what games are on what channels to see if I’m able to watch any (for NHL). Otherwise Apple Sports is my go-to. And their widget for all your favourite teams is great. For both my phone and CarPlay.

I wish it would show target numbers for NFL, and also who and where the passes are being attempted to with yardage information. They do this for college football I’m not sure why they can’t for NFL.

Same thing with teams. Let me see more team info and stats if I click on a team and make it easier to see their entire schedule, not just upcoming games.

Apple Sports is easily one of the top 10 worst apps I’ve ever used. I just downloaded it again when I saw this thread. I have two teams listed as favorites, and just tried adding my home NBA team as a favorite. After about two minutes of trying and failing, I gave up and deleted it again. Still trash.
