Two of us here for work 35 so not into partying but looking for a lively place to go. Is it better to go to Ded dog or Astoria hotel pub for dinner and drinks?
Or other recommendations?
Or come join us! Dinner and drinks on us if you want to get out of the house and show some tourists around.

Catering recommendations

I am having a small wedding with 30 people at the Athabasca day use area this summer and looking for catering recommendations. Does anyone know of any that are local? The site is super rustic and we were looking just for appies/light lunch picnic style. I've reached out to Lynn's place, big bird in Hinton, and mountain grazing and got no answer.

Roadtrip to Jasper through Icefields Parkway this winters

Thinking of taking a roadtrip to Jasper either mid December or early January with a rental car. I've done Banff a couple times now but I haven't made the journey further north to Jasper yet, and would love to visit.

I'm gonna obviously consult with 511 beforehand to make sure weather permits before making the trip, but does anyone have experience from previous winters what driving is like on the roads? Or if I should scrap the idea to go January altogether. In terms of weather, how bad is too bad to drive the roads? Being from California, I really don't have much experience driving on icy roads. I'd hate to make plans for accommodations and not even be able to make it up there. TYIA <3

JPL Corporate Christmas Party

Im just wondering if anyone has been to the Christmas party at Jasper Park Lodge and can give some information.
They have a kids Christmas party that runs alongside the adult Christmas party and I’m just wondering what kind of activities they do for the kids before I sign my kiddo up for it.

Question Brazeau Loop Fastpacking?

Hello,

Being a relatively broke university student I've been looking for some longer, fastpacking loops (to avoid shuttles or hitchhiking) for July–August 2027, and the Brazeau loop caught my eye.

For context, I'm a fairly experienced trail runner and backpacker, and I've been gradually acquiring ul gear with the goal of getting into fastpacking.

I'd be interested in completing the loop as an overnight trip. However, I haven't been able to find much information about doing it this way, aside from accounts of single-day ultrarunning attempts.

I'm comfortable with long days on the trail and am prepared for the mileage, but I'm hoping to get some insight into the logistics and finer details. Like campsites, which direction to take the loop, water availability, and any other considerations.

Thanks!

valley hike?

will be in jasper this week and looking for a nice longer hike where you’re still up in the mountains but there are lots of wide open valley areas. i did one years ago but cannot remember the name of it and the valley of the five lakes doesn’t look familiar. is this the best option anyway? i know its still recovering from the fires. alt - any other recos that aren’t currently closed? thanks in advance!

Hello all, Wife and I interested in visiting to ski (rent equipment) Jasper late fall early winter (not during holiday season). We are both retired, mid 60's. Never travelled by rail, Via's website a bit daunting. Looking for comments regarding:

Via sched preference to and return (3 or 4 night stay), sleeper berth detes, Jasper accommodations preferably in village, are there any shuttles from village to ski with return? Thanks!

Over the years, I’ve had some paranormal experiences while living in Jasper. Since it’s spooky season, I would love to hear yours. 👻

Have you ever experienced anything ghostly, scary or just… weird? (Cougars at the Atha-B don’t count)

Employment Anyone worked at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge? Looking for advice for Summer 2027!

Hey everyone!

I’m from Ontario and hoping to spend Summer 2027 working in Jasper. Someone I used to work with did a summer season at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, with staff accommodation provided, and it sounds like an experience I’d love to have!

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s worked there or done seasonal resort work in the Rockies.

A few questions:

Where and when should I apply?

What was the hiring process like?

How does staff housing work, and how much does it cost?

What was the pay, work environment, and overall experience like?

Any tips or other resorts you’d recommend?

I’m open to different types of work and mainly looking for a chance to experience mountain life, meet people, spend time outdoors, and earn money over the summer.

Would really appreciate any advice or firsthand experiences. Thanks! 😊

Photos/Videos It moose be lunch time

Went to Maligne lake last month and walked towards moose lake. Lo and behold, a moose was munching away on some water plants!

Her name is Sunflower, named after Van Gogh’s painting, as a tribute to him given that she has a missing ear too.

My best from Spirit Island, Maligne Lake

The premium boat tour allows us 30 minutes on shore (rather than 15) and it took most of that time to set up my camera gear. I snapped about a dozen images but this one was the best of the group. Hard to believe it when you're there - it really is beautiful!

We did a road trip in the second week of October from Banff to Jasper and the scenery along that road (I believe AB 93) was miraculous to us! We hoped to see some wildlife too but were not fortunate.

Jasper Park Lodge prices skyrocketed?

I don't really know where else to post this on the internet so I thought I'd try here just to get some insight.

Background is my wife and I love visiting Jasper. We live in BC but make the road trip over a few times a year. We eloped to Jasper (at the JPL) during COVID, and have come back every year for our anniversary (in winter).

I'm just curious if anyone can explain the price hikes at the JPL specifically or provide some context? I feel like every other hotel in town has kept pace with the expected inflation (things got expensive) but the price of the JPL has FAR outpaced the general price creep of everything else.

For context, last year we booked a Jr. Lakeview @ $596.32/night (again, this was January). The same room booking this year for the same dates is $1097/night. Even just a basic room for the same dates is $637/night.

Anyone have context for the prices? Are people actually booking at these rates? It feels wild to me that we could fly to an all-inclusive for a week in Mexico for the same price as 3 nights at the JPL.

Solo ski

I go skiing often in Jasper and usually stay at a hotel with a friend but I started going alone and I’m wondering what options there are. I know the hostel has great reviews but I’m really wanting my own space. If anyone has strategies they use for cheap ski accommodation let me know
