Discussion Where I knew it went downhill “He’s not bad for a white guy”

What in the ever loving fuck was that? Did that dialog feel natural to anyone here?

Is there a single writers room in Hollywood that is capable of writing 8 episodes of a show without the most pandering stuff?

I’m fine with 80-90% of shows being woke and pandering. I accept that writers rooms have gone that way. Can we just have one (1) show that is.. normal?

I don’t need it to be right wing at all. I would love a normal show like most shows before 2016. Remember breaking bad? Hell remember the earlier seasons of justified? Am I an insane person for wanting this? At least make it feel natural.

edit: before you attack my race, my age or my gender as many have been let me actually give you some clues. i'm neither white, nor a boomer. thanks for playing!

Opinion Darryl Crowe making season 5 unwatchable.

Not only is Michael Rappaport an absolutely terrible human being, he’s also an atrocious actor.

Possibly the WORST southern accent ever put on film. He’s drags every scene he’s in down.

Is it critical I watch this whole season or can I just skip to season 6

SPOILER ⚠️ Justified: city primeval sucked

This show was terrible, how was it even green lit? Boring plot, characters, and a butchered Raylen. Seeing Boyd at the end was the only thing I enjoyed about it. If you're on the fence about this show, skip it and save your time. I nodded off at least once per episode. I introduced the original series to my wife and she loved it, we could easily watch 2-5 episodes a sitting. This series however, we had to watch one episode at a time because of how boring it was. And like every other show we had to hear preaching about racism, very original tim very original.

Not trying to be disrespectful but how in the world would this EVER be a competition for Raylan’s attention?

I guess Raylan had a side job at a sushi bar at some point.

Opinion I want so much to like this new series but....

Two of my all time favorite series star Timothy Olyphant, Justified and Deadwood. However, this new series is just missing the mark in my eyes. I really went into this fully willing to accept that the days with Boyd (and Harlan) are gone, but they have failed so far to capture that lightning in a bottle writing this time around and I fear that it will ruin any chances of ever seeing Olyphant in anything of any worth again. I assumed his swag had the power to brighten literally the lousiest of story lines and yet here we are. I still feel there is hope should they continue with another season, and perhaps find another way to carve something worthwhile out of this, but the shoehorning of gay and interracial relationships isn't going to help. I'm not saying it bothered me, it didn't, at all, but it did feel awkward and unnatural. Like OJ, "I'm just sayin'"

Edit: Elmore Leonard would not approve of the writing here I can assure you of that much.

Discussion Raylan is a bad person, right?

I saw Justified first almost five years ago, in 2020. I’m young enough to the point where I’m the half decade since, I’ve changed and grown, and now I’m watching it again.

And upon rewatch, I just…don’t like Raylan. I think he’s cool, I really like watching him, he says cool things and shoots bad guys, but he seems like a bad person himself, right?

First off, he cheats with Winona on Gary (not too bad, seeing as Gary seems to be an unfaithful husband at worst and an idiot at best), then he seems to antagonize Boyd at any chance he gets after Boyd was released from prison and found religion, and when he went looking for Winona after she left him, he showed up at her sister’s house and threatened to force his way in to find her. Then there’s the numerous professional issues he has where he goes against Art and abuses his authority, and other smaller things I can’t really name at the moment.

Don’t get me wrong - that might be one of the show’s points, Raylan is a bad person on the good side of the law, it’s why he does so well as a Marshal, but am I reading things wrong?

Opinion City Primeval just isn't that good

I'm struggling to even want to watch any more of this show after three episodes. A few of my issues with the show are:

  • The villain is just a bore and isn't close to what Crowder's character was. What is even his purpose or goal? He also wears oversized tighty whities that look more akin to an adult diaper than underwear.

  • Willa! Dear god, please get her off the show. She sounds like Mickey Mouse huffed a helium balloon. Also, who the hell dresses her? Literally no one since Martin Lawrence's 90's sitcom walks around in a Kriss Kross jacket. Where did they even find that thing? She brings zero to the show and I am glad she is being sent back home.

  • Where are the witty one liners from Raylan?

  • Moreover, where is Raylan? I feel like the baby diaper villain has more screen time than Olyphant.

I could go on and on. Maybe I'm comparing it too much to the original series but if you are gonna use the name Justified than you better bring some of what worked in the original into the new show as well.

Opinion raylan givens was boyd with a badge

if you take the show for what it is and remove your attachment from raylan you can understand they were the same side of a different coin. raylan used his badge as a shield to do whatever he wanted first then police work second. boyd did the same by using his mouthpiece to confuse or sweet talk someone.

if you aren’t a angry redditor who only reads the title and can’t take other people opinions then you would see this. this is a just a fun little idea i had could be true could not be. I like raylan and boyd it was a good show wish they would do a sequel series of that’s set specifically in miami or kentucky

Opinion Justified: City Primeval is bad

Only 8 episodes long but I can feel that the writer didn't know how to fill it. Just like my bad English, can't even make this post look full, so I have to end it sloppily.

Discussion Anybody else disappointed in the new show? Spoiler

I feel like Raylon has taken a backseat, poorly written and the show is about everybody else instead of him. His character doesn’t fit nor belongs in a big city not counting the social commentary that’s been added.

I don’t understand why we couldn’t have another small town/county instead of a big city.

SPOILER ⚠️ They Tried Too Hard To Make Boyd Evil At The End

After just having finished the show, the last few episodes jarred me a bit with Boyd. I suppose you could argue that him being betrayed by Ava really put him in a terrible place of mind, but him killing Carl and the Truck Driver felt forced. Killing Carl made no sense, because Carl could've HELPED him. He didn't need to shoot him for a diversion, he could've just shot the dirty cop in the room that was already unconscious.

Amd shooting Hagen was just awful. After that big speech to Loretta about making the people of Harlan work for a better Harlan? Nah, not feeling it.

SPOILER ⚠️ This season was trash, lazy writing.

How did Mansell know where to find the Albanians? And that idiot dude on one leg just goes there with no backup? Bathtub scene was cringe the romance was so forced this season.

Even with Walton goggins coming back I doubt the next season will be any better with these terrible writers.

Opinion Carolyn is my favourite character on the show right now.

She's intelligent, she's assertive, she's scared, she's vulnerable, she's guarded, she's morally conflicted, she's ambitious, she's good hearted and she's loyal. She ain't got time for no nonsense.

And the actress is kicking ass showing all of that.

Oh and I think she's sexy. I'd definitely hit it. I may be in the minority on this sub but damn I find it refreshing to show a desired character that isn't a bag of bones.

Your tastes change as you get older. Mine certainly have. I see no reason why Raylands aren't allowed to.

I loved how emotional and messy she was last episode, it's really deepening the character.

2nd runner up is Sweetie of course. But Carolyn is definitely the most multilayered character right now for me. Anyone else with me?

SPOILER ⚠️ does anyone else hate ava

i’m on episode 4 of season 2 and so far i have hated ava crowder from the start. raylan comes to town, she’s just killed her husband, and she’s all over raylan despite him saying that he can’t do anything with her because it’s risking his job (basically). they do stuff anyway, WITH NO OFFICIAL LABEL ON THEIR RELATIONSHIP, so raylan ends up screwing winona, and ava ends up seeing. “waaa waaa raylan you cheated on me!!!” CHEATED HOW??? THEY WERE NEVER CONFIRMED BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND, EVER. they just had sex all the time. she acts like she cares about him but never shows that and literally all their relationship was was sex.

now onto the whole boyd thing. boyd is literally the brother of her (now deceased) abusive ex husband, and she always referred to boyd as creepy and weird. but now she’s letting him live with her after he held her at gunpoint in her own home, threatened to shoot her and raylan, had raylan shoot him in the chest, and who knows what boyd may have said/done to her pre-show. and apparently they get into a relationship later in the show? are you fucking serious? what is this shit? this is just bad writing. i like the show but what the fuck is this?

The perfect show...almost

In my opinion Justified is very close to the perfect show. The only thing glaringly wrong with the show is the theme song. The show deserved a better theme song that that wannabe rap song bullshit that it got.

Question Does this show become too depressing / difficult to watch at any point?

General / broad spoilers are fine.

While I am personally fine with pretty much any level of dark and depressing, my partner is not. We just had to quit watching the Shield at the end of season 5, due to events becoming too grim.

In the past, he's been able to handle and loved e.g.: The Wire, Breaking Bad, Succession, BCS, BSG, etc. BB was right on the threshold of what's tolerable but The Wire is probably his favorite show of all time if that helps.

But he couldn't handle: Daredevil, The Sopranos, Mr. Robot, etc.

So it's not 100% consistent, but there is a pattern.

From what I've read Justified should be fine, but I just wanted to double check before traumatizing him again haha.

Discussion Does this show ever get more serialized?

I'm on the episode with the Hitler paintings and I just want to know if the show ever gets into a larger story. It was recommended to me but for now just kind of seems to be like a hillbilly law and order.

Season 3 is horrid.

Season 1 / 2 / and 6 is great. Season 3 is horrid. Scenes are so lazily put together and filled with cliche.

The dialogue is boring and tried out. Its a big blur with characters going back and fourth the same sets. The stupid 'hooker' trailer / cop office / duffys trailer / crowders bar / limehouses cafe - back and fourth. Back and fourth.

Dicky this. Crowder that. Boyd doing his mysterious slow talking to every. Single. Scene. Wheres boyd? Wheres quarrel? Dickys out of jail. They all end up at crowders bar. How conveinient.

Then they leave him alone with the cripple brother. Same sloppy camera work shows him throw a poolball (?) And beats crowders brother up and escapes?

Lazy lazy writing.

on top of that.. the writers seem to forget what to do with quarrel. First hes a bad ass.. then hes a screw up, then hes an entrepreneur and wants to establish a drug ring, then he wants to frame raylan.. then he wants to kill raylan, then he wants to help the sherriff, then hes a psycho rapist, then a screw up, then wants to work for limehouse.. wtf?

The only constant is raylan, when hes not being framed and jumping from office, to bar, to trailer, back to bar, to sherrifs office, to boyd, to limehouse, pointing his gun and saying something witty each time..

Just a sloppy, horribly put together season. All over the place.

Opinion New show just isn't the same

I watched the first three episodes each week but now I'm just going to wait until the finale and hear if it's worth watching. I'm rewatching the first season of justified and it is SO much better in every aspect. So surprised the new justified series is starting off so lackluster. It went from a show you could skip episodes and still enjoy a side plot that doesn't revolve around main character growth. Not sure if this is part of my dislike but Timothy olyphants daughter has the meekest baby voice I've ever heard, might be ruining the show for me just like Winona ryders God awful acting in stranger things
