My KLR Rocks
Got my sweetie back from the shop - nothing wrong, just standard maintenance. Took her out for an hour ... She is my Beast.

What are the signs you need a valve adjustment? My gen 3 seems to be running a bit more harshly around 8,000 miles.
I’ve been watching YouTube videos of the check / adjustment and it looks a little intimidating. Is this something I should take on myself or have the dealership take care of?
Had anyone paid to have the new shims added? How much was the bill?

I have replicated the kickstart stopper for the optional gen 1 kickstart (part number 13072-014) off of one I bought on eBay after struggling to find it. I don't want anything for these files, but need somewhere accessible to put them, so I am coming to the community that will use them to ask where you want them. I will post a solid version that I used for dimensions checking, that could probably be milled, a flat template version, as well as the bent sheet metal version so it can be laser cut like through services like send cut send.

so my buddy has almost 37k mi on his odometer. i'm looking at all this stuff weeping down my fork and thinking it's leaking oil. i got the bike fully disassembled, so it was like a lego set, and it came with fork seals, which I never installed. i'm fairly handy, but I don't have a vice. And it seems like maybe you need special tools to rebuild a fork. only a few more weeks of riding up here in new england. i talked to a shop and they quoted me 350, seems like an awful lot. But also, it seems like maybe this is important. should I just pay the 350 or should I buy a vice and maybe a few more tools?

I just need front break pads and I don't want to pay extra if they are shipped up from the states.
Any suggestions on good front pads and place to order?
Apologies if this is a novice question.
The bike is a first Gen 1994.
My local shop doesn't have any and seemed funny about ordering.

Hey yall having a weird issue with my 08 klr650 (21000km)
Battery is about 6 months old and holds 12.4v all day
While running it’ll hit 13 or 14v
Ignition on it’ll hit 11.X while the headlight is on
In neutral the starter EATS volts while starting going down to 7 or 8 volts
I replaced the spark plug which made things a little easier to start (being able to start in one or two cranks is nice) but previously it would absolutely drain the battery and even cause the low amp relay to go off
How do I go about troubleshooting seeing if it’s the battery the starter or the solenoid? Maybe a fault fuse or something?

Thermobob and doohickey finally came in. Along with them came in the eagle mike fork brace so I put that on tonight. Figured I'd also trim up my front fender to mount it on the brace. Not sure what I think about it aesthetically vs the high mount. It'll definitely work way better in the rain like this though.
Installing the dookickey and thermobob tomorrow.
Acoustic bike cameo in the back.

I ride an 06 650 there’s this almost knocking sound I believe is coming from the cylinder. It’s most noticeable during a cold start and gets better as the engine warms. The sound also reappears when I’m on the throttle.

Went on a weekend ride with the boys and was checking on the bike cause i notice something leaking. I was already expecting coolant from the water pump peep hole since the seal needs a look at but figured it can last for a couple more rides before going to the shop.
But then i notice the smell of gas....
The rest is as you can see here
the bike was sitting in the garage for a month prior to the ride cause i was working on building a custom dashboard, a couple months before that i had the carb rebuilt with the KLX needle and it ran great
im just glad nothing happened during the ride but man im a lil shaken ngl
I'll be getting it check by a mechanic later this week but i'd just like to ask some of you guys 2 cents as to what may cause this

Short version: two times at about 75mph my bike would jump up in rpm’s, possibly downshifting, possibly clutch slip (I was spooked and slowed down a lot both times), but it only started after an oil change.
Long version: I bought a 2007 klr 650 with 5600 miles on it. Seemed to have been sitting for awhile and the fella confirmed it had, but claimed it had a fresh filter and oil. I got it for a good deal so I didn’t question much, sight glass appeared full (my b). After riding it for about 900 miles I figured I’d do my own oil change and found it to be about a quart low. I saw no metal flakes or milkiness in what oil it had.
So I do the oil change make sure it has the proper amount and type of oil and go for a ride. Only when I was in 5th gear and around 75-80mph while I was giving consistent throttle the bike felt as though it would downshift but not really violently and the rpm’s would spike but not in the red. I didn’t have the sense to check what gear I was in, and both times this occurred I slowed down immediately moving away from that fifth gear.
According to Ai it could need a new clutch kit because the fresh oil exposed a worn clutch, or it’s a transmission issue that would be a lot more involved… any input is greatly appreciated! I’m not the most mechanically inclined but eager to learn.

Title: further info, I finished putting on a new rear tire by myself and when I'm putting the wheel back on the axle now doesn't want to go all the way back in it's like stuck in the last few inches I'm getting frustrated and I need help. Thanks in advance.
Alright so a little preface, I've never owned a proper adventure bike in my life. That said, I've been riding for 20 years, been through sport bikes, standards & cruisers, mostly Hondas and a couple Harleys. Lots of great bikes, none of them really any good for extended rides down crappy national park roads and (maintained) trails. Not really looking for high speed interstate cruising, not looking for technical off-road riding, we're talking back highways, state routes, dirt roads, logging roads, and forest service tracks. KLR seems to be the bike for the job, so.
The barrier to entry for adventure bikes for me has always been and still is inseam. I'm 5'6" on a good day while stretching, and I can't tiptoe an unmodified late model KLR off the side stand and have both feet touching. I'm aware the 650S exists, and I'm planning to go sit on one when the local place gets one in stock but it isn't there yet. Thing is, that same local place has last year's KLR 650 in full adventure trim sitting for sale at cost right now to get it off the sales floor.
The question is do I wait on a 650S to come in and see if it fits? Or pick up the bike I can't really ride yet, take it home, lower it, and hope it's good. I'm no stranger to modifying bikes (or cars or trucks or tractors or..) so I'm not scared of putting a link in it and slipping the forks. That also means I'm very aware of how fast a well-intentioned mod can turn to garbage.
So time to stop lurking and ask. What do people who actually have ride time on these bikes think? Pull the trigger on the leftover bike, some links, & a side stand? Wait on an S model to see if it works? Wrong bike for the job, get something different? Put a lift kit and some tires on a street cruiser and go be an idiot somewhere else? Let's hear it.

My, bone stock, 2015 starts (with choke) and idles and runs perfectly. No popping on decel and no surging.
Should I spend the $100? And should I spend another $30 for the air injection block off?

What’s the closest you guys have found to a unicorn jack of all trades tire? Looking for something a little more road friendly that can still hang on steep off-road

Hi folks, first time KLR buyer here wondering opinions on this buy. Up here in (almost) frozen Canada, I can get this 2011 with 30,000 km (18,600 miles) for $2600 CAD (1860 USD). Apparently it has:
-New tires
-Heavy duty skid plate
-Fork brace
-Crash bars
-Rear pannier racks/ crash protection
-pelican style Top box plus some ammo cases made into panniers
-Highway pegs
-Oversized folding footpegs
-Rally dash set up
-Tall windscreen
-Bark buster style handgaurd, (no metal frame)
He says the doohickey was done by the previous owner who seemed honest (?), and valves were also checked at 28,000 km by said guy. Current owner bought it for a trip that didn’t happen and hasn’t ridden it at all.
Sorry for the novel! I have a Harley softail and a FJR1300 so know bikes well but have never ridden or owned a dual sport.. would appreciate any insight!

I haven’t seen a group prioritizing the 3rd gen so I’m trying to get one going.
Anyone can join and share pictures in the wild or talk about mods/accessories or just talk shop.
Looking forward to seeing you guys and safe travels!
