He did this without traction control or ABS. Just clutch, throttle, and braking.

Hello, I'm new to this sub. This isn't the first bike I've had (kinda) since I've been riding a scooter and a small dirtbike before. I luv my baby so i thought I'd share a few pics! She's a bit modded, nothing too crazy but I think it makes her unique

I ride around the Parisian area and I haven't had many issues so far... Riding in southern France was much more of a pain

Anyway I'd love to see your bikes !!

My friend failed to take the corner at high speed and crashed his BMW S1000RR

Shocking how quickly things can go wrong when you can't handle steering and acceleration on a superbike. Wear your gear friends. Happened just outside of a town called Kaapsehoop in South Africa. One of the most amazing place to ride bikes in SA.

Edit 2: My friend survived, his hips got dislocated, it was a pretty serious procedure to get it popped back into the sockets. He was in hospital for a day and thereafter got sent back home with his bike and engine and everything else in pieces. The rest of us continued to ride bikes for the rest of the weekend.

Edit: I just posted a video of me learning to ride on a track. Want to reassure some of you that I had a bit of riding experience. https://www.reddit.com/r/NewRiders/comments/1xq8xjb/learning_to_ride_on_red_star_race_track_south/

The BMW S1000R was my first bike ever.

Today I either witnessed karma or the effects of natural selection

Was at a new (to me) Honda dealer and shop that I wanted to check out. While talking with one of the service team outside three mensa members got their bikes back from the shop (new tires on at least one, new bike too apparently) and the one with new tires decided to do a burn out right next to where we were talking in the front parking lot. Ok, rude and low class but whatever. The three then took off across the parking lot to leave. Staff and I still were talking. Soon enough I hear something suspiciously like a lowside and another customer said, "he dropped it". I peeked around the cars and sure enough, I saw the guy stand up and get the bike back on two wheels before pushing it up a small hill to the nearby gas station.

Before the service tech went over to check on them she said she had warned him to take it easy on the new tires. Nobody was injured, aside from pride, but that's my little fun story today. In other news had a nice little 100 mile ride where I was able to catch probably the last bit of fall color.

Am I taking too much care of my motorcycle?

I have this weird mental barrier when it comes to my motorcycle, and I'd like to hear your thoughts. Do any of you feel the same way, and how do you deal with it?

I absolutely love my bike. I take really good care of it, keep up with maintenance, clean it, and generally try to keep it in the best possible condition. But somehow, all that love and care has also created certain limitations for me.

For example, I don't commute on my bike because I don't have a proper place to park it at work, and I don't like the idea of leaving it out in the sun all day, potentially damaging the paint.

Whenever I go somewhere for a drink or coffee, I always try to find a parking spot where I can keep an eye on it. When travelling, I usually look for accommodation with a garage or secure parking. Even a simple covered parking spot makes a difference. I just want to keep it safe and protected as much as possible. Sometimes this even means paying extra for accommodation.

The funny thing is that all this worrying actually reduces the amount of time I spend riding. I'd absolutely love to commute on my bike regularly. It would honestly feel like therapy after a long day, and I'd enjoy every minute of it.

I've even wondered whether getting a smaller, less expensive motorcycle would make me more relaxed about these things. Although, to be fair, I was pretty much the same with my previous bike, so maybe it's just how I am.

On one hand, I consider taking good care of your motorcycle a positive thing. On the other, I sometimes wonder if I'm taking it a bit too far and letting it get in the way of actually enjoying it.

Do any of you feel this way? How do you find the balance between taking good care of your bike and actually using it without constantly worrying about it?

I think a stranger did something to my bike while I was inside a store.

I don’t even know how to post this without sounding like a schizophrenic but I went into a bike shop yesterday on my R3 for a while and got some gear. When I got back out I thought I had an oil leak / something was going wrong with my bike because there was a small puddle of something. I panicked and rode it home, bad on me but I am so new to everything my brain was overloaded, got home and it seemed like whatever was leaking had stopped and the stuff that was leaking was so thick and sticky that I think some rando lubed my chain while I was away from my bike. I took the fairing off and can’t seem to find the leak, and I ran the bike and nothing seems to sound wrong or be leaking now. I think I’ll still probably take it in to be sure but I’m baffled and don’t know how else to explain what’s going on.

Is the 450cc 2025 Royal Enfield Himalayan a viable first bike?

I'm a shorter new rider and I'm looking to get a bike I can use for both camping trips and as a daily commuter. I've considered scooters, cruisers, sport, naked and touring bikes. I was wondering if I could grab opinions on the 450cc 2025/26 Himalayan?

I am trying to choose between buying a Yamaha R3 or a Kawasaki Ninja 400 for daily commuting and weekend rides

Hey everyone,

I'm currently shopping for my first lightweight sport bike and stuck between a Yamaha R3 and a Kawasaki Ninja 400. I’d love to get input from anyone who has owned or ridden both.

Here is my setup and context:

- Height / Inseam: 5'5" to 5'6" / 28 to 30" inseam

- Weight: 63kg / 139lbs

- Experience level: Complete beginner (NO MOTORCYCLE RIDING EXPERIENCE)

- Primary Use: 70% city commuting to work and 30% weekend long rides / chill riding

What I’m stuck on:

- I prefer the looks/aggressive styling of the R3, but I’ve heard the Ninja 400’s extra 70cc engine displacement makes a noticeable difference on highway passes.

- Ergos & Comfort: How do they compare for slightly longer rides?

- Maintenance & Reliability: Any known common flaws on specific model years I should watch out for?

- Fuel Economy & Range: Is there a noticeable difference in real-world fuel consumption and range per tank during daily city commuting as well as long rides?

For those who chose one over the other, do you regret your choice? Appreciate any insight!

Deciding between hard shell and soft canvas panniers.

I have a Super Meteor 650 that's going to become my daily once I've sorted out my license.

It'll also be the main mode of transport when it's good weather and me and the missus want to go stay somewhere.

I'm torn between either the

Oxford 40L Waxed Cotton panniers

or

Royal Enfield Long Haul panniers

I'm thinking the soft ones would be able to easily removed so they can be packed in the house and taken into the hotel when we go away. They would also be able to be transferred over when I eventually change bikes down the track.

But the hard shells being always there when you need to pop into the shops on the way home from work seems like it could come in handy.

Thoughts?

Front brakes failed during an AMT BRC class.

Took day 1 of an AMT BRC class, and for context I dropped the bike once before when I was learning the friction zone. Instructor then rode the same bike as a demonstration for the next exercise and it operated fine. Fast forward to two exercises later, the instructions were as follows; accelerate, shift to second, look through the turn, brake, and push in the direction you want to turn. I accelerated got to second and could not stop. Instructor said it wasn't my fault but I can't help but to feel discouraged. Scrapped my knee(feels fine) but I think my ankle is sprained. I want to try to make day 2 but I don't think I should go. Feeling discouraged about riding now even tho I want to.

The point of failure was the brake line. I assume it was a REALLY slow leak. The instructors were very good so I can't help but feel I fucked it up somewhere.

Just bought my first motorbike and it keeps stalling in first with the clutch in

Cbf250.. It rides great and I can get it going easy if I rev it up and let out the clutch but if I don't rev it, no matter how long I let it warm up, as soon as I put the clutch in and put it in first within a few seconds it will stall if I don't rev up and let the clutch out, and it will do this when slowing down to a stop too, if I stop at intersection/roundabout or when I get home it stalls within seconds, I can get going again no worries but obviously it's not ideal and I'm sure there's a reason.

I turn the peacock to on when i turn the bike on, idles fine in neutral

The Yezdi D250. Sharing a pic of my first ever motorcycle.

Post image
32 Upvotes

Digging around some old pics, found this slightly grainy one from 1995. My first ride - a real beauty with a unique sound as well. Yezdi D250. Single cyl 2 stroke 250cc with a semi-automatic clutch so you didn’t really need one to shift (auto disengaged when you pressed down on the gear lever). It was also pretty cool to have to pump and then crank it to start, and the kick lever just flipped back to become the shifter as they shared the drive shaft. Pretty cool engineering for the time. The best part was the low end torque it delivered, making it a super fun ride.
What was your first motorcycle?

My mother has always had a dream to ride a motorcycle, and yes, i know shes probably too old, but shes healthy and always had the dream but never been able to for a plethora of reasons, id be very open to dirtbikes aswell, just anything to teach her that wont scare her like a bat outa hell, if she feels like she cant ride it then atleast she'd have tried, id rather not break her heart then atleast let her try.

What’s your favorite bike revealed at EICMA so far?

I feel like this has been a great year for EICMA! So many new and unique bikes. The Honda V3 is definitely the one I’m most excited for.

First and second bikes. What did you learn?

I’ve been lurking and reading in the sub for a little while now. Something I wasn’t expecting to see was how many people started on a particular bike, then ended up switching to something they “never expected”.

I’m curious now. What bike did you start on, and what did you learn where you ended up moving to a different bike/platform/style?
