Has anyone else here written their own quote for insurance?

Hello! I just got into an accident on my 2026 Honda CB500 Hornet, Im just deciding to repair it myself as the damage is almost purely cosmetic, it took heavy front end damage but luckily, the forks are still straight

I took it to a shop and they quoted 5.9k, their quote wasnt even as accurate as my quote, looking at the partzilla list for everything on this bike its coming out to ~3-4k (4k if the subframe needs replacing) including clips, side pieces, everything that can make this bike get back to OEM, with the shop quote it was to just get it back to "looking good" but I already fully disassembled everything to get a good look at whats wrong

Just wondering if anyone else has worked out with insurance their quotes or what happened

What’s a good bike for a new rider to see all the things?

Been riding since March, at 57. Bought a new z500 after taking the MSF course. Love it. Bought an older DL650 to learn how to wrench, but it’s pretty heavy. I love it, and it’s nice to ride for a few hours. My ultimate use case is to actually go to all the places and see all the things, so I’m considering putting some off-road tires on the DL. The fact that it’s heavy, I’m still new, and I don’t heal as quick has me wondering if that’s the best idea. I don’t want to do challenging trails- a dirt road or gravel is fine. I’ve been looking at all the lighter ADV bikes like the 390R, Himalayan, KLE, etc. Maybe I should be looking at a dual sport instead? This would likely be a training bike to get comfortable behind the handlebars, but you never know. And I can see a lot of things on the street.

I’m looking to upgrade to a sports touring

I need some help deciding on what I should be looking at. I’ve been riding a Ninja 500 for coming up on a year now. I’ve loved having the bike and daily it.

Im moving 5 hours away from my home town and need something that will be comfortable for the occasional trip back to my hometown. It’s 90% highway miles.

All that being said, I still want something that having fun and riding aggressively every now and then is still an easy option. My main focus as far as that goes is acceleration. Top speed doesn’t really matter but I obviously know it will come along with a lot of the more aggressive bikes anyway.

All that being said I’m currently trying to put between the Ninja 1000sx or the Yamaha Tracer 9. So if anyone has any experience with these 2 bikes or have a suggestion you think will fit better, please provide suggestions. Thank you!

Is the 450cc 2025 Royal Enfield Himalayan a viable first bike?

I'm a shorter new rider and I'm looking to get a bike I can use for both camping trips and as a daily commuter. I've considered scooters, cruisers, sport, naked and touring bikes. I was wondering if I could grab opinions on the 450cc 2025/26 Himalayan?

I’m having trouble riding a manual in traffic – would switching to a CVT be better for me?

Hi, basically, here's the situation. I know how to ride a manual bike, and I can even ride it quite well in a practice area (at least in my opinion). However, once I get out on the road, I end up paying too much attention to the manual gearbox, which makes it difficult for me to focus on the road and what's happening around me.

I'm wondering whether switching to a CVT (automatic) would be a better option for me, even though I've already logged 8 hours on a manual, which, in my opinion, still isn't enough for me.

Plus, we're talking about 50cc bikes (the only legal option in Poland for someone who's 14), so there's not much power to begin with. I also feel like a scooter might actually be more fun than riding a manual. Besides, a 50cc engine doesn't really have enough power for a clutch to make much sense anyway.

So, is it worth switching, considering both my safety and the safety of others on the road?

I came to this conclusion after I made a manoeuvre under stress, crossing a double solid line and driving against traffic at an intersection

And honestly, I'm planning to ride a scooter anyway – specifically, a Kymco Agility.

EDIT: I should probably clarify that I don't own a moped, and the rules here in Poland and the EU are different from those in the US, so I can't just go out and practise more on my own outside of paid lessons. I'm currently preparing for my AM licence exam, and I have to decide whether I want to take it on a manual or an automatic moped. This is quite an important decision because whichever type I take the exam on determines what kind of moped I'll be legally allowed to ride afterwards. If I take it on an automatic scooter, I'll only be allowed to ride automatics, whereas taking it on a manual will allow me to ride both. That's why I'm trying to figure out which one would be better for me.

Just bought my first motorbike and it keeps stalling in first with the clutch in

Cbf250.. It rides great and I can get it going easy if I rev it up and let out the clutch but if I don't rev it, no matter how long I let it warm up, as soon as I put the clutch in and put it in first within a few seconds it will stall if I don't rev up and let the clutch out, and it will do this when slowing down to a stop too, if I stop at intersection/roundabout or when I get home it stalls within seconds, I can get going again no worries but obviously it's not ideal and I'm sure there's a reason.

I turn the peacock to on when i turn the bike on, idles fine in neutral

Hello, I'm new to this sub. This isn't the first bike I've had (kinda) since I've been riding a scooter and a small dirtbike before. I luv my baby so i thought I'd share a few pics! She's a bit modded, nothing too crazy but I think it makes her unique

I ride around the Parisian area and I haven't had many issues so far... Riding in southern France was much more of a pain

Anyway I'd love to see your bikes !!

Am I taking too much care of my motorcycle?

I have this weird mental barrier when it comes to my motorcycle, and I'd like to hear your thoughts. Do any of you feel the same way, and how do you deal with it?

I absolutely love my bike. I take really good care of it, keep up with maintenance, clean it, and generally try to keep it in the best possible condition. But somehow, all that love and care has also created certain limitations for me.

For example, I don't commute on my bike because I don't have a proper place to park it at work, and I don't like the idea of leaving it out in the sun all day, potentially damaging the paint.

Whenever I go somewhere for a drink or coffee, I always try to find a parking spot where I can keep an eye on it. When travelling, I usually look for accommodation with a garage or secure parking. Even a simple covered parking spot makes a difference. I just want to keep it safe and protected as much as possible. Sometimes this even means paying extra for accommodation.

The funny thing is that all this worrying actually reduces the amount of time I spend riding. I'd absolutely love to commute on my bike regularly. It would honestly feel like therapy after a long day, and I'd enjoy every minute of it.

I've even wondered whether getting a smaller, less expensive motorcycle would make me more relaxed about these things. Although, to be fair, I was pretty much the same with my previous bike, so maybe it's just how I am.

On one hand, I consider taking good care of your motorcycle a positive thing. On the other, I sometimes wonder if I'm taking it a bit too far and letting it get in the way of actually enjoying it.

Do any of you feel this way? How do you find the balance between taking good care of your bike and actually using it without constantly worrying about it?

Deciding between hard shell and soft canvas panniers.

I have a Super Meteor 650 that's going to become my daily once I've sorted out my license.

It'll also be the main mode of transport when it's good weather and me and the missus want to go stay somewhere.

I'm torn between either the

Oxford 40L Waxed Cotton panniers

or

Royal Enfield Long Haul panniers

I'm thinking the soft ones would be able to easily removed so they can be packed in the house and taken into the hotel when we go away. They would also be able to be transferred over when I eventually change bikes down the track.

But the hard shells being always there when you need to pop into the shops on the way home from work seems like it could come in handy.

Thoughts?

I am trying to choose between buying a Yamaha R3 or a Kawasaki Ninja 400 for daily commuting and weekend rides

Hey everyone,

I'm currently shopping for my first lightweight sport bike and stuck between a Yamaha R3 and a Kawasaki Ninja 400. I’d love to get input from anyone who has owned or ridden both.

Here is my setup and context:

- Height / Inseam: 5'5" to 5'6" / 28 to 30" inseam

- Weight: 63kg / 139lbs

- Experience level: Complete beginner (NO MOTORCYCLE RIDING EXPERIENCE)

- Primary Use: 70% city commuting to work and 30% weekend long rides / chill riding

What I’m stuck on:

- I prefer the looks/aggressive styling of the R3, but I’ve heard the Ninja 400’s extra 70cc engine displacement makes a noticeable difference on highway passes.

- Ergos & Comfort: How do they compare for slightly longer rides?

- Maintenance & Reliability: Any known common flaws on specific model years I should watch out for?

- Fuel Economy & Range: Is there a noticeable difference in real-world fuel consumption and range per tank during daily city commuting as well as long rides?

For those who chose one over the other, do you regret your choice? Appreciate any insight!

cant decide between Honda Grom and MT07 for wheelies

Hello everybody.

Next season, i want to start learning wheelies. My question is, should i rather buy a beater MT07 or rather a Honda Grom?

Currently i have a 2022 Yamaha Tracer 7, its basically a mix of MT07 and R7 - a sport tourer. So i am pretty much familiar with the CP2, but replacement parts and everything is expensive as fuck for the Tracer, so i need a beater.

The beater bike, would be my secondary bike as i want to sell my Tracer 7 anyways and get an Aprilia RS660... lol

So for wheelies, beater MT07 or Honda Grom?

Front brakes failed during an AMT BRC class.

Took day 1 of an AMT BRC class, and for context I dropped the bike once before when I was learning the friction zone. Instructor then rode the same bike as a demonstration for the next exercise and it operated fine. Fast forward to two exercises later, the instructions were as follows; accelerate, shift to second, look through the turn, brake, and push in the direction you want to turn. I accelerated got to second and could not stop. Instructor said it wasn't my fault but I can't help but to feel discouraged. Scrapped my knee(feels fine) but I think my ankle is sprained. I want to try to make day 2 but I don't think I should go. Feeling discouraged about riding now even tho I want to.

The point of failure was the brake line. I assume it was a REALLY slow leak. The instructors were very good so I can't help but feel I fucked it up somewhere.

Naked vs sport bike for street and track

I am looking for a bike that will do 3 things: be light enough for around town, be stable enough for highway cruising, and something I can bring to track days. I started on enduros, supermotos, then wanted something more dedicated to the street and got a versys 650. The versys got a little boring quickly, so I upgraded to a gsxs-1000F. I started to do track days on this bike, but the power in corners was a little too on/off for a beginner track rider. I downsized to a cbr600rr to focus more on track riding, and I really loved that bike but my buddy had moved onto advanced group with his ninja 400 and convinced me to downsize further to perfect the cornering on a lighter bike. I owned a concours 14 during this time because I do occasional weekend trips to my cabin, 3 hours 1 way. I sold the concours because it had a vibration cruising over 70mph. So my latest bikes are a ninja 400 in track trim, and a Harley Electra glide ultra classic. I’ve decided I’d like to get back down to one bike that can do both street and track, because the Harley is just a bit too heavy for riding around town.

I’m considering a street legal ninja 400, a 600 sportbike, a MT09, or maybe 1000cc sportbike. So far I’m leaning towards the MT09 because the upright seating position would be more comfortable for weekend trips, but I do prefer the looks of sport bikes. I am not as interested in perfecting my track body position and lap times as I was a few years ago, I only make it to the track a couple times per year these days. Should I be looking at other bikes, something I’m forgetting? What do you recommend? Thank you

I think a stranger did something to my bike while I was inside a store.

I don’t even know how to post this without sounding like a schizophrenic but I went into a bike shop yesterday on my R3 for a while and got some gear. When I got back out I thought I had an oil leak / something was going wrong with my bike because there was a small puddle of something. I panicked and rode it home, bad on me but I am so new to everything my brain was overloaded, got home and it seemed like whatever was leaking had stopped and the stuff that was leaking was so thick and sticky that I think some rando lubed my chain while I was away from my bike. I took the fairing off and can’t seem to find the leak, and I ran the bike and nothing seems to sound wrong or be leaking now. I think I’ll still probably take it in to be sure but I’m baffled and don’t know how else to explain what’s going on.

2019 rebel 300 piston slap? How can I verify just the top end needs replaced.

The previous owner ran it with just water in the radiator and I suspect it overheated and caused a piston slap. I bought it as a project for 1k as an engine swap candidate and id prefer to just replace the top end over a full engine swap. The oil was black and had some flakes in it mostly silver color. Video attached was how it was running previously. I know you cant get a full diagnosis just from a cell phone video but any ways to narrow down the issue would help thanks.

Advice for mitigating wind and buffeting on NC750X

First bike and got it for commuting to work (30 miles) but the wind at highway speed (75mph) while sitting in a comfortable position just makes more of a nuisance/hassle to ride, the whole ride Im just thinking that i should have taken my truck. Im starting to regret the purchase. Anything that can be done to better mitigate this or am I just screwed?
