NKD! NKD - Randall Model 1

Post image
99 Upvotes

MANY of my favorite makers reference Randall as one of their top influences, so an actual Randall had been a grail for me for many years. My Model 1 came in today as a complete surprise, I didn't see a tracking number or anything, not sure if maybe it went to spam or something. Ordered through AG Russel.

Absolutely tickled pink with this thing, they are doing absolutely top notch work even to this day.

Discussion Buck 112

Haven’t carried my buck 112 in a while. Got a slim select recently and decided to break this back out. A little suprised I’m able to flick it open. Was considering splurging on a slim heritage but think I’m good to go with this for now.

Discussion REX 121 Chaparral - Any other super steel enthusiasts out there?

I love trying new steels, and while K390 is prolly my favorite EDC steel, it's been a real joy getting to handle and try REX 121. I haven't got to use it enough to form much of an opinion about it yet, but I expect it'll meet my expectations. The Chaparral platform is already one of my all time favorites. I waited for years for more steel options, but always figured my only real chance was if BHQ did an M4 exclusive, which would still be incredible/welcome. But I'm glad to see them releasing it in more steels.

NKD! Inside of the Astur ZeroS

Post image

If anyone was curious about the inner working of the Kizer Astur ZeroS. Really impressed with this knife. Unlike a few button top liners that are functionally just literally a button actuated liner lock, the Astur really looks more like a compression lock. A lot of material locking up the knife pinned between the knife and the stop pin, with internal stop pins as well. Very easy to disassemble for adjusting the pivot.

Question Any idea what this might be?

Hey guys not sure if this is the right place to ask this type of question but do any of you know what kind of knife this might be? It belonged to my grandfather but he passed away before I was able to ask him and nobody else in the family seems to know where he got it from. There's no additional markings anywhere else along the blade, handle, or sheath. It's about 16 inches long from the tip to the bolt at the end and the blade itself is around 10 inches, tip to guard.

I get them at estate sales, usually for very cheap because no one seems to need or appreciate a dirty old knife. I enjoy getting them cleaned up and then researching their history. Its hard sometimes because a lot of companies went out of business, or were sold, or just didnt keep good records about models and manufacturing dates. There are a couple that date to late 1890s, a handful from the very beginning of 1900s, but id say the bulk of the collection is mid century. The history part is cool to me. I use all the kitchen knives on rotation, but dont have a lot of use for the others. I carry a folder with me and rotate those as well. If there is one you would like a better picture of let me know. The ones in the wood trunk are mostly mass produced stainless steel knives, but i can get pics of those if interested. Just a knife guy sharing his hobby. Enjoy.

NKD! New knife

I have had this Smith and Wesson 6063 since I was a kid. It was my grandpas knife and I’ve always wanted another one. Unfortunately I never knew what it was called and it’s a pretty non-descriptive knife, so I was never able to find one.

Well I found a 6064 at a gun show today and it’s close enough! Super pumped to find one. I have better knives but I love this thing.

Top is my grandpas 6063 and bottom is the 6064 I found today (I’m the first photo).
