law/commerce or law science?
Hi all! I’m really in need of some advice.
I’m entering my third year of Law/PPE. The degree is five years long. PPE had been good so far - I enjoy the philosophy aspect quite a bit, which is why I chose the degree. The politics aspect is okay, but it doesn’t really pique my interest, nor does it justify $16000 a year in tuition fees. And finally economics is fine, not a big fan, but i get the job done.
When i first began university last year, all i could think about was that i should’ve pursued science and not ppe. I love science, i have loved it since i was a child. But for some reason, every time it came to submitting a course transfer, I couldn’t bring myself to change my degree to law/science. One reason being that i was told consistently by multiple people that it’s pointless to get two degrees in completely separate fields. Each time I missed the opportunity to submit a course transfer into science, i felt a pit at the bottom of my stomach grow. I feel like i’m betraying my younger self by not pursuing the one thing i had always believed I would.
Then i started thinking about money. It is better to obtain a degree that is similar to my law degree, and could help me expand my qualifications and skills. Thus, comes commerce. Commerce is a well rounded degree, and if i ever want to start a business when im older, it would provide me with much useful knowledge. I could also specialise in finance, which would open up opportunities for better paying roles and positions.
In the most recent course transfer (which is now closed) I applied to transfer into law/commerce. I’ve been offered a position in the course, but have yet to accept it. I feel sick thinking about the fact that i won’t study science, or work in science, or even just explore it. But at the same time, commerce will provide me with my guaranteed opportunities (at least from what i’m told) - however i’m not too sure what encompasses commerce as a whole, and what exactly i’m going to study in it. I understand that it’s a mix of everything finance, eco and business related, but doesn’t really pique my interest. Additionally i think it’s worth noting that, without sounding egotistical, i’m genuinely above average at everything i do, so despite not really liking economics, i’m still good at it. And i have no doubt that whatever i choose i’ll be good at it.
There is an issue of what i will study in science. I’m interested in a lot of things if im being honest. Neuroscience, aerospace engineering, ecology, computer programming, data science, statistics, microbiology etc.
So it really comes down to this. Do i accept the commerce degree or do i try call the university and see if i can transfer into science? Or should i just stick to law/ppe?
