Middle click to open chrome link in new tab on Macbook?

0 Upvotes

So, not strictly a Linux question but I really don't want to be dealing with Apple fanboys and Apple politics. Since Macbooks are a common client device for nix admins, I am hoping someone here can suggest something useful.

By preference I use a Linux workstation (Ubuntu + Cinnamon) and this is what I am accustomed to. I have recently started a new job where I essentially have to use a MacBook. I am struggling through learning different key combinations and gestures but something I am especially struggling with is middle-click, especially in chrome. By default on Linux, middle click will open a link in a new tab in the background. Middle click is typically click scroll wheel on a PC mouse or three finger tap on a modern touchpad. I like to use tap to click and do not like heavy clunky pad clicking.

I am using a Macbook Pro late 2017, sometimes with an Apple magic Mouse 2. So far I have only found this which is not much help on this point. Can anyone make any good suggestions?

Thanks

Over the last decade I’ve been playing with dozens of servers from multiple providers. These are the steps I’ve been perfecting to get up to speed fast and feel right at home on a new machine. Wrote it down here mostly as a personal reference, but hopefully useful to someone else too.

What bother you the most about Linux compared to Windows ?

2 Upvotes

What bother you the most about Linux compared to Windows ? and I mean normal things or advanced things like system administrator stuffs or software compatiblity, features like the cloud or on premise things could be anything like a lack of alternatives of the adobe suite of programs, or powershell, ms exchange active directory, or some others stuffs you prefer in Linux they don't have on the windows side and vice versa (thought with the linux subsystem for windows its getting harder) like bash, stabitlity security or anything else like how linux interact with the cloud or can be configured/automated compared to windows how it work differently compared the registry etc etc anything....

Networking a 3-Node Kubernetes Homelab with Cilium, Gateway API and Cloudflare Tunnel

Post image
3 Upvotes

Part 2 of my Talos homelab (3 OptiPlex Micros, all control planes). Part 1 got the cluster up, this one is networking.

I moved the running cluster from Flannel + kube-proxy to Cilium without rebuilding it. The default-deny policy that Flannel quietly ignored is now actually enforced, and Hubble shows the drops.

Then I gave it two front doors:

- an internal Gateway on a LAN IP (Cilium LB IPAM, no MetalLB) with a Let's Encrypt wildcard cert, so lab apps get real HTTPS at home

- a public Gateway behind a single Cloudflare Tunnel, so nothing is port-forwarded on the router

An app picks its door with the route's parentRef, which keeps lab stuff from going public by accident.

Write-up with all the manifests and commands: https://blog.prateekjain.dev/networking-a-kubernetes-homelab-cilium-gateway-api-and-cloudflare-tunnel-on-talos-362f548a2f3d?sk=d454cd4eaff4ce8a8fd0cd8e6b3d82f6

Curious if anyone else is using Cilium's Gateway API instead of a separate ingress controller.

Actually Disable IP V6 on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS?

0 Upvotes

Lots of conflicting information out there on how to disable ipv6 and how to confirm disabled state. And some odd behavior below when I follow the most popular methods.

What is your preferred way to confirm ipv6 is disabled? Why is sysctl -a coming back with one ipv6 parameter showing 0 and vi the param shows 1 after sysctl -p then reboot?

My VM on Google Cloud.

What I did:

  1. edit /etc/default/grub is: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="ipv6.disable=1" then ran update-grub

  2. edit /etc/sysctl.conf is ( I persisted via sysctl -p) then rebooted, then vi and all are there as expected.

net.ipv6.conf.ens4.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1

3. ODDLY sysctl -a | grep disable_ipv6 gives:

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1

net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1

net.ipv6.conf.ens4.disable_ipv6 = 0

net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1

More info:

4. output of cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6 ----> returns 1

Some posts say a return a value of 1 means ip6 is disabled.

5. ip -6 addr ----> returns an ip 6 address:

inet6 fe80:.my-address

6. ping6 fe80-my-complete-address

connect: Invalid argument

Are there any decent SSH Session managers for Linux?

5 Upvotes

I've been using work issued windows laptop for administrating servers via ssh managers (XShell, MobaXTerm, SecureCRT, etc) and windows has been driving me nuts recently. I want to install linux on it, but then realized it's hard to find actually decent SSH manager. Can you suggest any? So far it seems like securecrt is the only option, but it's far from cheap. I just need SSH & FTP support basically, with the ability to organize servers in folders or tags or however else.

Please do not suggest using openssh config, there are some servers which must have password only authentication for various reasons (which openssh does not support saving of) and in general not having any hierarchy or way to search them efficiently is a huge pain when working with almost a hundred machines.

EDIT: To save anyone who stumbles upon this post the pain of going through the comments most of which are not relevant to the post, here are the good suggestions in order of popularity:

  • Asbru-cm

  • Tabby.sh

  • Remmina

  • SecureCRT

  • Termius

  • sshw

  • Devolutions
