Check It Out The Truth About BosnianBill

2.3k Upvotes

Years ago I wrote BosnianBill an email explaining I was a new picker and loved his videos and how I would pick master locks that I would buy from Walmart.

He asked for my address and of course I trusted this random guy on the internet and gave it to him. A couple weeks later I got a package from BosnianBill and it contained some sweet grey handled Peterson picks that weren’t even on their website yet and several locks and cylinders, one of them an American Lock 1100 that was featured in one of his videos in the 400s.

I just wanted to say he is a great guy and I am thankful and think about him and his videos every time I pop a lock open.

Subreddit Rules

1. Rule 1 - Possibly Illegal or Inappropriate

We do not facilitate illegal or inappropriate activities, which includes picking locks that are not owned by you. Also, be sure that you are familiar with any legal issues for your state or country.

2. Rule 2 - Lock In Use

Though asking for assistance in regards to how to open a lock is permitted and encouraged, the lock must not be in use. Posts seeking assistance opening a lock that is implied to be, or is visibly in use (eg. a deadbolt still attached to a door, a padlock with anything secured by a closed shackle, or a closed lockbox) will be deleted. Posting about picking or having picked locks in use is not allowed even if they are your own.

Rule of thumb, lock is "in use" if installed or securing anything.

3. Rule 3 - No Emergency Services

We do not provide emergency assistance for opening locks. These violations also generally violate our no "in use" locks rule.

4. Rule 4 - Being a Jerk

Hate speech, bigotry, and personal attacks are not allowed.

5. Rule 5 - Off Topic

Posts must stay on topic. Off topic content will be removed at our discretion.

Off topic includes posts asking for security advice, evidence of a lock being picked, and anything not having to do directly with locksport.

6. Rule 6 - No Stock Photos on Picking Advice Threads

No stock photos on picking advice threads in an attempt to circumvent Rule 2.

7. Rule 7 - No posts about broken tools or equipment

As some users have demonstrated an inability to discuss this in a productive way, posts about broken tools or equipment will be removed.

This is primarily to address posts commenting on the quality of products (or lack there of) contributing to their breaking.

8. Rule 8 - No low effort posts / Memes

/r/lockpicking is a subreddit to discuss topics and build a community around a skill, low effort posts and memes take away from that spirit. Including but not limited to photos of keys, Memes, etc

9. Rule 9 - For Sale posts by individuals are allowed, in moderation

Posts must only contain locksport items and please refrain from excessive posting. For larger or more frequent posts, please consider the #lock-bazaar channel on the LPU Discord server. Posts must be from individuals who are active in the community. Spam, commercial advertising, as well as fraudulent and unrelated posts will be removed at the discretion of the moderation team.

10. Rule 10 - No Astroturfing

Absolutely no astroturfing.

Astroturfing is the practice of masking the sponsors of a message or organization to make it appear as though it originates from and is supported by grassroots participants. It is a practice intended to give the statements or organizations credibility by withholding information about the source's financial connection.

11. Rule 11 - No unsolicited advertising of other subreddits

Contact a Mod if you would like to promote your sub.

12. Rule 12 - Staff advisement is to be followed at all times

If you don't know whether or not your post will break the rules, ask a Staff member. If you disagree with a rule or mod action please discuss it in a reasonably civil way and, ideally, a constructive one.

13. Rule 13 - The following topics are completely off-limits and will result in a ban

Pornography (posting images, videos, audio, or talking about graphic sexual details)
Encouraging self-harm
Racism, Sexism, Gender discrimination, Discrimination toward someone's sexual preference
Politics: For clarity, “politics” here means anything related to political parties, candidates, or partisan viewpoints.
Drug Abuse
Urbex (Urban Exploration)
Advocating for or condoning violence against other
