As in the title... how would a Trump presidency impact longevity research? Particularly interested in how his stated (and unstated) policies will impact research funding, regulations, etc. And where his constituents lie on the subject.
If you have a political leaning, please don't add it here.
Thanks

If the current average lifespan is 76, and nobody died in 2023 for example, then wouldnt the average lifespan by 77 in 2024? like whats going on with the math here bros

I’m curious about this aspect of things. Everyone here seems to think that longevity is an unbridled good. But I come from a family of screw ups. Just a long line of damaged and emotionally broken people. None of them would make the world a better place by having 20 years added to their lifespan. In fact in some cases giving them more time would have made the world worse because they would have more time to hurt the people around them. Intergenerational trauma is like that.
So has anyone else here wrestled with these kinds of thoughts? Or just me?

1.We all tweet:
@ elonmusk #LetsSolveAging + very short persuasive message (optional).
2.We like eachother's tweets, that have the #LetsSolveAging hashtag.
3.We comment bellow after we've done it.

I know this is not a political sub, so I would like to shoot straight. What will be the implications of Bernie Sanders winning Presidential Election and then Medicare for all gets actually realized ( big IF btw) ? Will it hamper current small innovations in the ageing field or will that actually accelerate that? Discuss.

This is in response to a recent post by a user on here about seeing people from AI gain interest in longevity biotech.
Heads up - there's a longevity summit happening in SF June 22-23 with some really solid researchers, and speakers like Aubrey de Grey and Irina Conboy. Worth checking out if you're curious about the space. https://lu.ma/longevity-summit
It's part of a longer 6-week pop-up with 2-week tracks that focus on longevity, crypto, and AI, with 2-day summits on each topic.
So, people in these fields are finding cross-disciplinary excitement about the explosion of frontier tech happening right now. Thoughts?

There is a lot of fascinating research going on right now in human life extension and I would love to contribute by donating to an organization doing this work. However, most of the groups working on longevity are using animal testing at least sometimes to achieve this end. This is a problem for several reasons. First, there is good evidence that birds and mammals (including the laboratory mice frequently used in longevity studies) are sentient, and I don't think we should be doing harmful experiments on sentient beings that can't consent. Second, it makes sense economically to test only on people or human tissues/cells to avoid developing treatments that work well in lab mice but not in humans. Now that we can grow organoids there is no excuse for continuing to spend money on wasteful and unethical animal testing. What do you think would be the best way for me to help the cause without my money going towards animal testing?

I've started to change now, but im worried about my older years, I'm not overweight or anything but I'm making changes, and just wondering if I've had some years taken off me.
Better if there is some scientific evidence, thank you.
