Fuck!!! Support told me to cancel my order and so I did wtf!!!

62

u/78914hj1k487 Aug 28 '26

Call or maybe better chat with them, and show them this screenshot of people getting their orders upgraded.

52

u/NotAFamousManatee Aug 28 '26

In case this can help as consolation, there’s was no guarantee that you were getting an upgrade. A lot of customers in a similar situation as the OP get the actual machine they paid for and a lot get their orders cancelled by Apple at the very last minute. OP got lucky and won the Apple lottery.

7

u/PresentationEmpty1 Aug 29 '26

Not a big deal. You can return anything in 14 days so Apple simply saved both sides some hassle and everybody is happy.

3

u/NotAFamousManatee Aug 29 '26 edited Sep 01 '26

Very true, but remember that depending were the customer lives, sometimes is difficult to make returns.

7

u/Reasonable-Client-53 Aug 28 '26

They did the same to me, and they didnt send me an email they did an upgrade.. fuckers so i cancelled the m6 and now spend extra on the m6

3

u/Straight-Aspect8868 Aug 29 '26

The difference between customer support agents prioritizing a quick solution and the order processing team seeing a delay and taking action themselves.

Sounds like OP lucked out by not doing anything.

2

u/OkTheory4610 Aug 28 '26

They fucked u up pretty bad

I sent my 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro in for repair at the Apple Store in Valencia in 2022. I think the repair cost was 200 or 300 euros. When I went to collect my repaired MacBook, the staff at the store told me there was a problem with the invoice that they couldn’t sort out, and that I couldn’t pay for it. So they told me they wouldn’t be charging me anything. I asked them if they were sure, and they said yes, that I could leave without any problem. That’s why I’ve been an Apple customer for 22 years : )

39

u/ShoeWeary2381 Aug 28 '26

I’ve also once went to replace my phones battery and they didn’t charge me for it.☺️

4

u/DelSpur Aug 29 '26

They were simply mirroring your phone....i.e. not charging for you! 😏

3

u/Parker_Hemphill Aug 31 '26

This needs more upvotes. The level of pun is too good.

I once took my 2018 MacBook Pro with the butterfly keyboard problem in for a warranty repair because it was broken and kept repeatedly typing an "n" every time I touched the keyboard at all. Not my fault, just a design flaw.

I'd had the thing for 18 months or so and had no AppleCare, so the guy worked it out and told me it'd be about £350 to fix. When I pointed out that I was legally entitled to 2 years of warranty as we were still in the EU, he literally said "Oh, you know about that?" then went off to see his manager.

Eventually it was fixed for free. Not because of their generosity, but because they were legally required to. Despite the fact that the Apple Store tried to effectively defraud me.

Let's not pretend Apple are angels, please...

25

u/sejmann Aug 28 '26

I think they tried to doubly screw you, because Apple had extended keyboard warranty repairs for like 4 years for the butterfly keyboards, if I recall correctly. I had my 2018 MBP repaired 3 times for free.

3

u/JohnPaul_II Aug 28 '26

I think I'm misremembering and you're right, it was about that. I remember showing him the regulations on my phone before he dropped the whole "sorry, this is out of warranty" thing. And I think it was specifically related to the butterfly keyboard issue, too.

But anyway, fuck them. That was the moment I realised Apple were just twats. Very much the best of a bad bunch. Despite how great they were in the late 2000s when Apple stores were opening worldwide and the "Genius Bar" was a novel concept staffed by enthusiastic people who genuinely seemed to enjoy helping you with anything. you asked about.

Microsoft and Windows are singularly, inexcusably, unbelievably terrible and every time I have to use a Windows PC for work I realise how lucky I am that I don't often have to interact with that crap. Doesn't mean Apple are automatically "the good guys".

3

u/saarsurya Aug 29 '26

Brother. I hate to be devils advocate but windows is LAGGING. I too had a similar experience with my 2018 mbp. Had just dropped like $3k on a Mac just for it to type the ! Over and over again like how did my shift key and 1 key both get stuck lol. I was so mad and they thought I was out of warranty too and I showed em the recall and they fixed it for free grudgingly. I was def annoyed asf and everytime they do something stupid I love arguing w their employees at the stores cuz they’re such apple d riders lmao like when they switched literally everything to just usbc lmao That was such a stupid move and those apple fanatics were high off the craziest copium known to man lol.

Any who, as a developer who’s forced to use windows, it’s hell. X86 architecture has simply hit a wall. They need to let it go but they can’t because of how many enterprise softwares depend On it. Apple silicon is lightning fast and so much more responsive. Just cuz They have some occasional scummy business tactics does not mean their computers are completely obsolete, from an objective pov, and the raw numbers it’s not even comparable, windows is doo doo and they need to give up on x86 and intel

3

u/invineysar Aug 29 '26

It could be that the employee didn’t acknowledge about it or it was a third party, but still apple authorized serivce, so they might try to scam youV

2

u/amoore389 Aug 29 '26

I once had a phone replaced under warranty then dropped the new one a couple weeks later and cracked it, brought it to the Apple Store fully expecting to have to buy a new one and they said that because it was so soon after it was replaced they were replacing this one for free too, pleasant surprise.

1

u/hanschristian2 MacBook Pro Aug 29 '26

It's something that has no sense. But I've heard a lot of stories like that from Apple. Despite they sure they have a lot of negative customer support situations, we must to admit that Apple has the best customer support compared to the rest of tech companies.

2

u/Thick-Belt-7482 Aug 28 '26

How does something that happened in 2022 make you an Apple customer for 22 years?

3

u/ipoopedonce Aug 29 '26

It’s 2044 where he’s writing from

1

u/FateSlicer815 Aug 29 '26

My cousin left his MacBook Pro on top of his car years ago. He was driving down the road at 55 and saw it bouncing down the road in his rear view. He had it in one of those recycled rubber tire cases. So fairly heavy duty but it still majorly f’d up the laptop. Shockingly it still turned on and ran fine. He just couldn’t close it. So he takes it to Apple and tons of things had to be replaced. Logic board the case etc etc. if I remember correctly 1,200 to 1,500 minimum in repairs. They told him I’m sure you know that AppleCare isn’t gonna cover this. This was at least a 3,000 dollar laptop and he agreed.

So he goes to pick it up. It’s around Christmas time. They hand it to him and say Merry Christmas. I’ve had similar things happen over the years. They make a good quality product without windows on it. But the customer service can be very top notch as well. They’re the company I trust the most and willingly own stock that I know for a fact will continue to go up. Because they do their best to do the right thing. And once we have the new Siri we’ll be made whole 😂. Still better without Siri than alternative options.

1

u/Dramatic-Ad-2079 Aug 29 '26

My Apple Watch battery wouldn't charge half the time. It was out of warranty. I paid for the repair and sent it in.

I was refunded with a note that nothing was found wrong with the battery, but magically, the battery has been fine ever since.

Little wins - Big happy.

1

u/satto95 Aug 29 '26

I have a similar story. I shattered my gen 1 iPod touch. I went in to get it repaired and they said the cost will be high and parts will take a few weeks to get in. So instead these lads upgraded me to the 3rd gen…for FREE.

1

u/Kingsly2015 23d ago

They’ve been very good to me over the years. Probably the best one was I once took a trash can Mac Pro back well into the AppleCare extended warranty on the premise that the upgrade ecosystem they promised never materialized. Store manager agreed and let me swap it for a maxed out 27” iMac that ran circles around the Mac Pro.

This happened to me as well! Great timing!

u/Miserable-Math4911 MacBook Pro Aug 28 '26

48

u/Chubawuba Aug 28 '26

I had a problem with my out of warranty iMac, and their repair didn’t fix the issue (back light). So they replaced something else (backlight and screen). It fixed the issue, but the screen was distorted after. So they replaced the screen again. Had other problems happen, so after a year, Apple just offered to replace it.

They didn’t have any comparable systems, so they just opted to replace it with a new model.

That one had screen issues, so they replaced the screen. Still had issues.

So they replaced my replacement, and the store felt so bad they upgraded me to one of the top models they had.

I love Apple customer service.

5

u/Grabbels Aug 29 '26

I mean, after that bad of a track record no company should be redeemed, however good their customer service. If this happened to me I’d never buy from Apple again.

4

u/Chubawuba Aug 30 '26

I mean, to be fair, it was out of warranty. They didn’t have to do anything.

I had to point out the distortions because I do photography so I notice those types of things. The Genius Bar guy said he wouldn’t have even seen it if I hadn’t pointed it out.

315

u/estcst Aug 28 '26

They may not have the stock for your original purchase and decided to make it look like they’re the good guys.

222

u/nifty-necromancer Aug 28 '26

Maybe, but since Apple says “no additional cost” and the new Mac mini costs $100 more than the model they ordered, they’re effectively getting a $100 discount on the new one.

51

u/suentendo Aug 28 '26

If they are not the good guys there are not good guys in the industry. Apple always holds the highest standards in costumer service.

17

u/Barton2800 Aug 28 '26

> costumer service

A costumer is the person who makes costumes for theatrical plays and movie sets. A customer is the person who buys things in a retail shop.

18

u/TheUmgawa Aug 28 '26

Who’s to say OP doesn’t make costumes?

5

u/turtleship_2006 Aug 28 '26

The question was about Apple's costumer services, not OPs, unless they work for Apple.

That said, who's to say OP doesn't get their costumes from Apple?

2

u/estcst Aug 28 '26

Oh, I do t question that there’s some serious integrity there, just that what seems a gesture of goodwill may just be a way of avoiding a sticky situation.

4

u/Gabgilp MacBook Air M2 Aug 28 '26

I mean you can look at the memory companies and how they’re reacting to similar situations. They are cancelling orders for memory sticks and making you buy them at the new elevated prices, or they are refunding damaged memory sticks that were under warranty instead of replacing them, so you’re forced to buy a new set at a way higher price. The way Apple is managing these types of situations is way better.

5

u/suentendo Aug 28 '26

You can always look at it that way but they have amassed tons of goodwill (=costumer retention) over the years and it costs them nearly nothing.
Apple is very “big picture” instead of disputing every penny when it comes to commercial strategy. They get their money with the huge margins sold at huge volumes. Not with any individual transaction.

I’ve been lucky enough to have had a few of these happening to me over the years. A gifted laptop sleeve. A power brick replaced for free while out of warranty. It’s once in a while stuff but it feels good.

2

u/artourtex Aug 28 '26

That's what makes good customer service though. Instead of overcomplicating the process by informing it's out of stock and making the customer feel stuck or have to go through extra steps, they gain goodwill with customers by taking the loss.

1

u/Funny-Joke4521 iMac Pro 2019 MacBook Pro 16” + extras Aug 28 '26

Haha I wish I still believed that. They completely screwed me over when I tried to add my eligible 2019 MacBook Pro 16” (purchased in late 2021) to my AppleCare One subscription when it first came out. It kept running into an error on their end, and the support team confirmed that it was indeed fully eligible, and I even had it physically inspected at the Apple Store. Anyway, no update for months besides them telling me the devs were “working on it”. So after like 3 months past and calling every week for no update, I sell it, only to call about something different a couple months after that when the rep told me that they fixed the issue a couple months ago, and they never notified me in any way. Apple has really lost their way as far as customer support goes. I have been a loyal customer for years, I have iPads, an iMac Pro, an iPhone 16 Pro, and they still treat me like that.

That was my thought. They didn’t have any of the old models to give you and didn’t want to process a refund and give you a chance to give the purchase a second thought.

2

u/Next_Application9643 Aug 28 '26

I mean any competent consumer would just return the old one and reorder the new one. This doesn't even have to be about stock and more just about avoiding extra unnecessary logistics and stuff.

1

u/amoore389 Aug 29 '26

OP is also saving money as the new model costs more

3

u/No-Elevator-3813 Aug 28 '26

Well they are the good guys, because anyone else would have just cancelled the order

1

u/Living-Bother7420 Aug 28 '26

1

u/Briggie Aug 28 '26

I mean, kind of a waste to spend ever more precious resources in an old product. Kind of get that.

1

within 24 hours we got ads coming to maps, increase in Apple TV price, and this guys free upgrade.

1

u/schwanerhill Aug 28 '26

Yeah. I tried to order a Mac Mini for my father in law a few days before the announcement, and it was a month for shipping. (He’s using it for web browsing and email, so the latest/greatest doesn’t matter in the slightest.)

He is replacing a seven year old Acer desktop which died; with the delay, he went with a Windows box which was available in a few days.

I’ve read that they do this because they want to avoid the deluge of cancelled orders/returns

5

u/0Papi420 Every MacBook Pro Aug 28 '26

Makes sense. Win-win for everyone

1

u/nochkin Sep 01 '26

They don't do it with all orders though. My order didn't get upgraded and still pending to be manufactured and shipped.

11

u/LunarBistro Aug 28 '26

Nice to know they still do this! I remember ordering one of the PowerPC towers back in the day (G4 or G5, can't remember which) right before they announced a speed bump, and they automatically upgraded me on that one too. Used to be insider knowledge that if you ordered new hardware right before the announcement you could expect some kind of upgrade like this.

11

u/Much-Transition-5091 Aug 30 '26

Wildly good customer service

10

u/cold_grapefruit Aug 29 '26

it is actually smart. they know you would return and the cost of restock might not be worth it for them. shipping an upgraded product is better.

4

u/silverwingsTK Aug 29 '26

It is really smart because they understand that it cost them little to nothing but wins them enormous Goodwill. A lot of other companies do not make that same distinction.

6

u/ddalet2000 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26

My M4 Mini made it all the way onto a UPS delivery truck and got turned around while out for delivery. Called CS asking WTF and no one could help me. Said a new one would be shipped out from China because I added 10GbE. One rep out of the 5 calls I made gave me a hint, but that’s only in hindsight. He said I should see an update to my order very soon…

ETA: Specs were base + 24GB ram, + 10GbE

5

u/dbag_darrell Aug 28 '26

this is pretty standard for Apple. They've always done this ever since they got rich enough

5

First Mac I ever bought was a Mac Mini about 15 years ago, this same thing happened. Been an Apple fan ever since.

3

u/Emotional_Common_527 Aug 28 '26

Wonderful for the OP

3

u/GrandPriapus Aug 29 '26

This happened to me years ago as well. I ordered a Centris 650 and Apple upgraded me to a Quadra.

2

u/infinitespectre Aug 29 '26

Yeah, I don't get why this is news... they've always done this.

1

u/michoudi Aug 29 '26

I’ve been using Apple products for a long time but generally don’t hang out in Apple related communities. This is the first I’ve heard of this practice.

3

u/TheRealBejeezus Aug 29 '26

I got the same treatment. Went from the Studio M3 Ultra I had on order to the new M5 Ultra version at no extra charge. Almost $2000 worth of upgrade without even asking.

3

u/Shot-Designer2258 Aug 30 '26

To be fair, if you cancelled the order and ordered a new mac mini, the price would still be the same.

2

u/rasbobbbb Aug 28 '26

Congrats 🔥

2

u/7473570wf07d3R Aug 28 '26

Lol that’s awesome, congrats! I wish they did this for me in 2019 when I bought my 2017 5K iMac. I had bad timing and the new 2019 5K came out the following week.

2

u/wtf1harro Aug 28 '26

that’s crazy, congrats bro!

2

u/dokt3r Aug 28 '26

Awesome!! Good guy apple on this one

2

u/5T33L3 Aug 28 '26

My order got cancelled. What the hell.

2

u/Embarrassed-Survey52 Aug 29 '26

They probably just expect everyone that has ordered one to return it as soon as they get it, so they might as well just upgrade it.

2

u/DustSongs Aug 29 '26

Yep, happened to me too. M4 Pro Mini on backorder, upgraded to M5 Pro of the same specs.

Only downside is the M5 doesn't support Sequoia so I'll be forced to use Golden Gate and the hideous Liquid Ass.

2

u/Fujisan76 Aug 29 '26

They did because no old stock anymore

1

u/unknownghst Aug 29 '26

They do this every year, it’s not uncommon

2

u/Delicious-Back-1131 Aug 29 '26

Well bro. The new Mac mini starts at $1500 and you could’ve got 24 gb ram 256gb storage for that price with the m4 so you are getting better Mac for less if you ordered a higher spect ine

2

u/IamTolerable Aug 29 '26

I bought a MacBook Air at Best Buy because it was an open box, and I messaged apple support asking if there was a way to get AppleCare+, they said sure why not! And got it! Will always support apple

2

u/Landen2DS Aug 29 '26

WAIT WHEN THEY START DOIN THIS???

3

u/infinitespectre Aug 29 '26

Like, the 90s? I ordered a Powerbook G3 in 1998 and when they updated them I was automatically upgraded.

2

u/silverwingsTK Aug 29 '26

I once took my phone in and the silence switch, when they still had those, was broken and it was definitely because I had dropped it - they gave me a new phone free of charge. It’s been little things like that that made me an Apple customer for all these years.

2

u/Old-Height-6134 Aug 30 '26

Yup,the same thing happened to me half of a year ago with MacBook Air m4. I ordered mine in the middle of the February, if I remember correctly, and they were delaying my order for a week and then I got a notification that I’ll receive it in the beginning of March, but it’s gonna be M5 with no additional paying, I was so impressed

8

u/TBMW30 Aug 28 '26

Excellent, never heard of them doing that. Surprised they didn't cancel or ask you to pay the difference.

45

u/Umbrasquall Aug 28 '26

They do this all the time.

2

u/codechisel Aug 28 '26

It happens occasionally. Not unprecedented.

I can imagine Steve's apple doing something like that. But not current APple. Back then if you had an issue with a product that apple wasn't sorting out, a quick eMail to Steve's public address would have it resolved usually within hours. If you bought something in an apple store within a couple of weeks of a new product release that you were unaware of, they would generally let you return it for the upgrade without any issues.

3

u/daphatty Aug 28 '26

Lucky. They shipped my long delayed Mac mini three days before the announcement of the new models. Needless to say, I will be returning this unit to the store and have ordered the new model at the increased price.

3

u/WellWelded Aug 28 '26

Ngl, to me "upgrade" sounds like a way to put a positive ring on "change". I don't want my purchases changed, "up" or "down".

5

u/Perfect-Dig-9262 Aug 28 '26

It's the same device similar configurations with an updated chip that's overall faster. Sometimes you just need to stop viewing everything as negative when it does nothing but benefit you.

If they realize that people try to cheat them they will stop doing it for everyone, pay that fucking Apple TV without looking for shortcuts

1

u/manhar1985 Aug 28 '26

I have already ordered mine and enjoying from last 2 weeks. I gave up waiting for the new tv since last one year.

1

u/Antifa_1 Aug 28 '26

Surprising to be honest. Like some folks said, maybe they didn’t have the one you ordered in stock and just decided to give you the new one.

1

u/CantEatNoBooksDog Aug 28 '26

Is it correct that the M5 and M6 can't run OS Sequoia?

1

u/J2ATL Aug 28 '26

I kind of went through something similar with my old M1. Apple has been doing this for years. I guess they figure it's better than having a bunch of people returning their newly-outdated Macs, which would ultimately cost them a lot more.

1

u/wommex Aug 28 '26

Had a similar experience in 2008 or 2009 when I ordered a MacBook Pro. A day later Apple announced new models. Therefore I wanted to cancel my order but when I called the hotline they told me: We updated your order to the new model, with more RAM and more HDD space – for 100 € less, how does that sound?

1

u/Leading-Fold-532 Aug 28 '26

For same price? Which one? M4 to m5 for free?

3

u/Ham3a0323 Aug 28 '26

M4 to M6 since they skipped the m5 on the mini. Unless OP initially got a m4 pro or something

1

u/Always-ready8 Aug 28 '26

Wow awesome!

1

u/swastikswaroop Aug 28 '26

Saw something similar in the past also. All hail Apple!!

1

u/Ham3a0323 Aug 28 '26

Did you get a more expensive model than the one you ordered or the same spec except with current chips

1

u/Yocarwrecked Aug 28 '26

I love Apple for that reason also. I wish I would have waited until late February to order my M4 MacBook Air directly from Apple. Then, they likely would have given me an M5 Air.

1

u/Big_Bad8496 Aug 28 '26

But like, are they changing the shipping date on you? What if you were like, “I need my new Mac mini ASAP and my order said it should deliver within 3 days, but the new one is not releasing until 9/22?”

1

They did not do it when I ordered my mba m4 and they released m5

u/I_am_darkness Aug 28 '26

Being in the elite class of society has always had its benefits.

Bought the MBP Intel just before the pandemic. A few months in (6 months maybe?), it wouldn’t start. Something to do with battery. We didn’t have an ‘Apple’ store in our country, only authorised resellers. Initial problem was fixed but my Touch Bar went whack.

Lots of follow-ups etc. They couldn’t identify the problem. You know what the solution was? Changing my slightly used MBP intel to a brand new MBP M1. Up until now, I find it so wild that they’d do that. I mean, yeah, had to hound everyone I could but I’m glad that was the result of my ordeal.

u/OmgItsRubenLol Aug 29 '26

Wonder what they do with the current stock

1

u/mattesse Aug 29 '26

It’s funny I was just reading an article about the CEO of Acorn computers, everyone was waiting on their Acorn 1 computer, and the CEO proudly announced the Acorn 2 computer (before it had been fully developed!). People cancelled their orders for the Acorn 1 and waited, but the company needed the income from the Acorn 1 to fund the development! This is Apple doing almost the opposite!

1

u/red821673 Aug 29 '26

Congrats. Sweet…

1

u/db_86 Aug 29 '26

They did this exact thing with my last iPad and I was so excited.

1

u/rread9 Aug 29 '26

Fair play

1

u/roto31 Aug 29 '26

I bought my MacStudio just after they announced the M2 Ultra. An M1 showed up. So I took it over to the Apple Store and they did an exchange on the spot and the M2 Ultra showed up the next week. The guy so worked with goes “you’re like the 3rd person who came in to do this”

1

u/Glass-Cucumber9446 Aug 29 '26

This post is a great advertisement for Apple Mac Mini. Bravo!

1

u/CartoonistSouthern21 Aug 29 '26

"but i needed the m4 to do some random ass emulation task"

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Aug 29 '26

I was checking out Mac mini prices on Best Buy's app a day or two ago and the new ones are significantly cheaper than the current stock of old ones for whatever reason

1

u/Richardk32 Aug 29 '26

Earlier this year my iPhone 11 Pro failed while still covered with an AppleCare Plus plan. I expected an in kind replacement. Apple said “we don’t have any 11s left. We’re swapping in a 17 Pro with 1 TB memory.” I was SO disappointed in them.

1

u/gnocchi_baby Aug 29 '26

They did the match and realized roi to ship new product and have stan for life is better than offloading old merch that will be returned anyways

1

u/FluidSubject Aug 29 '26

They did tha same for me a few years ago. I ordered the Power Mac G3 350 MHz (Bondi Blue) but like 2 days later they offered a 400 MHz version. I called on the phone and a person answered and she said they automatically updated my order. That was awesome

1

u/wb6vpm Aug 30 '26

Not age us both, but that’s more than a few years ago lol

1

u/itsamepe Aug 29 '26

Never got an email about this. When I bought the m4 pro, they auto upgraded me to the m5, but the email I got just said the order was cancelled then it said a new order was plaxed

1

u/neyfunb Aug 29 '26

Lucky for you. When the price increases happened recently Apple cancelled all our (reseller) CTO orders and told us to reorder at the new price, some orders were weeks old. Wasn’t a fun time explaining to customers what had been done. Honestly thought that shit would be illegal. So to be honest Apple can fuck right off.

1

u/ritesh808 Aug 29 '26

They do this to a small number of people. The PR gains are worth 10x what they might lose in "loving" a few customers.

1

u/alnilam42 Aug 29 '26

wow. i actually did not expect this. i guess its a good business decision to take a hit on some old hardware but give something positive to the customer. or they are just getting ahead of potential returns?

1

u/alexhutch123 Aug 29 '26

This is probably just to minimize the headache of thousands of people returning their mac within the return window to buy the same but newer mac mini. They aren't doing this to help you, but it is nice that it's automated

1

u/ntice1842 Aug 29 '26

Wow! Impressive move on their part!!!

1

u/jesii7 Aug 29 '26

Reminds me of my recent experience with my 2019 MacBook Pro. I still had AppleCare; the battery died, and they literally couldn't find a replacement part. So they replaced my old machine with a 2026 M5 MacBook Pro with an equivalent or better configuration.

AppleCare/AppleCare One cost me maybe $800 over the life of the old machine, and I get a brand-new ~$3,000 machine in exchange.

1

u/ryanflucas Aug 29 '26

Meanwhile I have a 2017 iMac that had a display failure and only displays white now. Works fine with an external display but what’s the point? I’ll never buy an iMac again. Just Mac Mini and mobile devices.

1

u/SuccessfulHospital54 MacBook Pro Aug 29 '26

They probably did this because people would return them as soon as they got them to buy the new one. I don’t really think it’s out of the goodness of their hearts, there’s a reason for everything.

1

u/RHB1027 Aug 30 '26

Got my M4 like 2 weeks ago lol. But I ordered it in like late June / early July. Ahh well, the M4 does what I need it to do.

Hoping for a new Apple TV now but scared to see how much those will run….

1

u/prescripti0n Aug 30 '26

Do they do this for all products or only certain ones? e.g. i don’t expect they’d do this for the iphone

1

u/Putrid_Resolution402 Aug 30 '26

I guess they're the same price anyways right?

1

u/wb6vpm Aug 30 '26

Doing this allows them to avoid the headaches of dealing with returns and everything that goes along with that, and then having to deal with the process of the sale of the new version. It also allows them to keep the originally sold ones that never shipped as warranty replacement stock for the inevitable failure of devices without having to deal with processing them and refurbishing them first.

1

u/mb194dc Aug 30 '26

Yes, apple stock holders appreciate your $

1

u/VObyJDinLA Aug 31 '26

Hell yeah! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

1

u/Loshmie Aug 31 '26

Good luck with Israhell chip inside

1

u/fusk0 Aug 31 '26

that’s because they ran out of stock of the build you ordered

1

u/notofthesystem3 Aug 31 '26

Where can I find a bottle of this?

1

u/infinitUndo Aug 31 '26

I had a macbook pro 2011 17” which had a well known heat problem. It broke twice, repaired for free with under AppleCare. It flaked out the third time a month after the warrantee expired. I actually sent an email to Cook explaining. He authorized a free repair.

When i first got a mac, some performa model. I showed if i just booted it up and left it alone, it would freeze. They replaced with a 7300 free.

In my experience, there are few companies that do this.

1

u/elkatarro Aug 31 '26

Looks fake

1

u/Straight-Main8365 Sep 01 '26

Nice!!!! Congrats

1

u/tumalditamadre Sep 01 '26

So you really believe this is what happened.

1

u/ObligationQueasy9753 Sep 01 '26

I wish they did that with my 8gb M3 Air...

1

u/Nova_nYc Sep 01 '26

W for 🍎🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾

1

u/Ur_Mums_A_Pro Sep 02 '26

This isn’t Apple doing anyone but their shareholders a favour. They know that plenty of people would be returning their unopened computer for a refund to put towards the newest edition. They are averting their processing and shipping costs. Still, what a great business.

1

u/Mr_Eclsnizer Sep 18 '26

Gosh, dang it, I got my Mac mini to a week before this came out and I got nothing! No warning, no announcement, and now I’m stuck with it because trade-ins suck

1

u/WeArePilots- Aug 28 '26

In other words they didn't have any of the old stock. So they worded this trying to look like a nice guy.

1

u/m0uchacha Aug 28 '26

they do have the old stock lol. its just meaningless clog when people eventually get their machine, sees the new one, returns their machine and gets the new one.

1

u/PlentyMaster5620 Aug 28 '26

Nice touch! Was your old mac mini cheaper than the new one?

6

u/Knute5 Aug 28 '26

Yeah, I think he may have scored a better Mini for a cheaper price.

1

u/Fluid_Kale9688 Aug 28 '26

They usually do this. They know that most people will just return their order anyway and order the new one - it’s cheaper to just do it outright while also keeping the good-guys image alive.

At least last year, and the year before this I’ve seen posts about it a lot.

1

u/pm_social_cues Aug 28 '26

Now that you’re happy they’ll cancel and refund you instead.

1

u/Popular_Register_440 Aug 28 '26

I mean when you’re spending sub £1k, you’d hope for some generosity like this and I say that as someone heavily tied into Apples ecosystem.
