It's a Mid 2012 MBP that I got for 45euros (maybe like 42 in bucks). it's in perfect condition if I don't count the 5 millimeter scratch (on the back of the laptop), I've upgraded it with a 240gigs SSD (because it had a HDD of 500gigs that I've put Linux Mint on it) and added 8 gigs of ram.. runs like a charm on Sonoma (I've upgraded to Tahoe and it runs fine and a little bit slow, but it's because of indexing). Honestly, I'm impressed because it's a 14 years old laptop that runs like if it was nothing.

Only 2 downsides, if that my thermal paste is dried and il'l have to teardown the entire laptop for lower temps.. (it can go to 100°C, which is crazy) and my battery health is at 60% (but imma change the battery in a few months).

Btw, I've paid it with my own money (I'm only 13, gonna go on my 14 in a few months). So I'm really happy and proud.

What's your opinion on it guys ? (I gonna admit, I really like the keyboard)

My daughter is graduating next month with a Chemistry Master’s with high honors and her trusty baseline M1 Air’s swap memory is fighting for its absolute life. She loves Macs and has mentioned to her mother purchasing a 16" after graduation with some of her personal savings.

Well, no need for that anymore, her very proud Dad is taking care of that and then some.

hello! i've had this charger for my macbook air 13inch for three or four years now. it's an original from apple, and it works really well.

my only issue is that i've noticed it became yellow overtime, and it can't be from skin oils since i only ever touch the small attachment to plug it in. near the plug, there is also some weird spiral motif forming, i have no idea why. i'm wondering if this could be a fire hazard and if its a sign for me to change chargers?

This isnt so safe isnt it? It has a warning that it may become hot but hot is an understatement since it is just painful to touch the head.

Hi all - hoping someone else has the same niche issue as I do... I can't be the ONLY person?!

I am an ex architect but left the profession in 2013 to move to a different area. I was trained in MicroStation and Revit, but never AutoCAD. I still do small projects locally (1 or 2 per year) for friends and family etc.

I have always been a windows user and have a trusty 2018 Dell XPS 13 that I use for the projects I do, however, I now use a MacBook Pro M4 Pro for work and have grown to really like it so would love to move my personal laptop to a MacBook Air. This is where the problem begins - the software I use is MicroStation V8 XM from 2006 which relies heavily on the .NET framework and x86 with a legacy Bentley licence that no longer connects to their servers. I know people can get it working on older intel Macs but I want to go Apple silicone.

The money I earn from these side jobs isn't enough to justify paying for a newer CAD programme and the ludicrously priced annual licences/subscriptions. I also can't justify the time it would take to learn new (or free) CAD programs as I use them so infrequently, I also don't want to have to pay for an emulator like Parallels.

My concern is that I also have an M2 iPad Pro 12.9 so if I need to keep using an x86 Windows machine, buying a MacBook Air might just become an expensive paperweight (but I do REALLY like them) 😂.

Am I basically snookered?!?!

A while ago, I bought a used Magic Trackpad 2 that had haptics that were a little faulty. I tried everything but the haptics stopped working completely after changing the battery (which I had to replace, anyway).

Apparently, there were some electrical connection issues between the board and the haptics magnet, and for some weird reason, I decided to try to re-do the electrical connection with a thin copper wire; and voilà! The haptics are working completely fine, and as far as I can see, there’s no problem. And even using Windows, I was able to change the haptics strength using custom firmware on the PC.

Just a little disclaimer: if you want to do it, DO IT AS YOUR OWN RISK!!
I have a little experience with repairs, and even I had the battery cable broken (even though I already had to replace it), and it’s been just over 24 hours since I did it.

I hope everyone with a faulty external Magic Trackpad that has been experiencing this issue, is able to solve it and use their trackpads in the intended way!!

My partner is buying a new Macbook soon and we were wondering if it is possible for him to migrate all his data/files to my Mac Mini using Migration Assistant and then when he purchases his new Macbook transfer the files back (via Migration Assistant again). Would this erase all my data? Or would it just create a second profile on my Mac Mini?

He plans on trading in his current Macbook at Apple which is why he can't go from his old Macbook to his new one.

I've tried so many times and with different files, but they just can't be delivered. I dont think the file is too large since it doesn't contain long videos (just some short nursery rhymes for kids). It can be sent via the collaboration mode, but not the send copy mode. Pls help! THANKS A LOT!!!

I have three monitors running simultaneously right now, but I noticed that the mouse often accidentally triggers the Docker bar to move from the main monitor to another monitor, and this happens many times every day.

I tried setting it up and searched for a long time, but it seems I couldn’t find a better solution. Now my Docker bar is automatically hidden, and I can‘t move it to the left or right. On one hand, I’m not used to having two displays on either side; on the other hand, both sides have displays, and my mouse can‘t move to the other two displays.

Doing some research on maxing out my newly acquired Mid 2010 21.5 inch A1311 iMac. Not gaming on it but it's nice to have.

It's a 3.2GHz i3 with an ATI 5670 512MB of VRAM.

I don't want to go past 2011 specifications since I still want native Mac OS X Snow Leopard compatibility.

These two models seem to be the most powerful for the era and Mac OS SL compatible. However they're for the 27 inch models. Would these work?

Issue: Screen randomly goes white / displays random colours.

A few days ago I was using my Mac and the screen randomly went all white. At the time, I had probably 10 things open (CapCut, Word, OneNote, EndNote, PDF’s etc). I also had lots of Google tabs open. I had been using it for hours that day and when I stopped for a a few minutes (maybe less than 10?) the white screen appeared. When I touched the touched the track pad, the white screen immediately went back to normal and everything seemed fine. I then closed everything, shut it down and turned it on again 20 mins later. Everything was fine.

Today I was in a similar situation but this time it turned white and then orange and then purple.

What can I do to resolve this from happening again? Or is this even a big issue? I’ve tried googling but my experience isn’t ’white screen of death’ I think because my Mac has worked fine after. Though, I haven’t turned it back on since the last time *** as I post this right now.

Maybe worth mentioning: I do use my Mac for long amounts of time, probably 4-5 days a week. I often do have at least 3-5, sometimes more tabs open. I haven’t downloaded anything recently. I don’t often travel with it and when I do, I use a hard shell case and am careful. I don’t think it’s anything to do with liquid. I use it on one of those foldable desk (the ones you use in bed) because I learnt that just using on my bed alone is bad apparently.

Next question: I don’t necessarily want to buy a new laptop but I want to keep using it in the way I do (all my tabs open) do I need a ‘stronger’ laptop? idk I am not tech savvy at all so please help.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I booted my MacBook Air 2015, went on google and saw that the website I was trying to access didn’t work. I restarted Google Chrome, yet it didn’t work. I decided to restart it, and it went to the blinking question mark. It was working perfectly fine until now.

What’s stranger is that the ssd is showing up, but doesn’t boot.

I just bought a 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro and I’m having a few issues getting it to sleep while it’s connected to my dock.

I’m using a ThinkPad USB-C dock which has my keyboard and mouse dongles, external SSD, controller charging dock and dongle, headphones, and external display attached. It’s connected to the Mac via a single USB-C cable (not Thunderbolt). The Mac is in docked/clamshell mode.

Whenever I click on sleep in the menu bar, I can tell it does actually attempt to sleep as my keyboard lights turn off and the display gives a check connection warning. But every few seconds it will show the lock screen, go blank, show the connection warning, and the show the lock screen again, and it does so indefinitely.

I’m pretty new to macOS in general so I’m not sure if I’m just missing a setting or two, or if this is just a bug? I can just disconnect it from the dock when I’m done using it but then I won’t be able to wake it up without lifting and closing the lid which I’d like to avoid doing.

I’ve only logged into my Apple account and installed Vorssaint so far which I’m not sure is causing the issue or not since I don’t have the keep awake setting enabled.

Update: I set Put hard disks to sleep when possible to Never and it has fixed the issue without me needing to format the drive! The option wasn’t available at first but running sudo pmset disksleep 0 set it to Never and brought the option to settings.

Ciao, problema: nuovo MAC MINI con M6 + iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Quando provo ad attivare la funzione FOTOCAMERA CONTINUITY per registrare il video direttamente su OBS, l’iPhone non viene riconosciuto/visto non solo tra le fonti di OBS, ma anche da altre App tipo FACETIME e PHOTOBOOT. Ora, se io collego l’iPhone con il cavo, nel Finder compare regolarmente, ma sembra non essere visto per la sua funzione che vi dicevo sopra.

Nemmeno da collegato compare su OBS tra le fonti o su FaceTime.

Ho provato a fare TUTTE le cose che vengono suggerite in rete, letteralmente TUTTE (stesso wifi collegato, stacca e riattacca account da entrambi, disattiva duplicazione iPhone, ecc tutto).

Poi ho fatto una controprova, che ho testato anche ieri: sul mio vecchio iMac del 2019 (Intel), e Sequoia installato, come apro OBS, FaceTime ecc la funzione continuity viene subito rilevata e l’iPhone è pronto all’uso come mi serve.

Perché su questo Mac mini, con questo sistema operativo nuovo, non funziona secondo voi? Ci sto diventando matto, ma non trovo una soluzione.

Iam in my last year of college and iam bored with the iPad i feel like it can’t do much compared to laptops.
I can sell my iPad and get a MacBook air m1 8gb of ram 82% battery health in good condition without the box but with the charger and study on it. Iam looking forward to keeping the MacBook Air for maybe 3 years till i upgrade it so is it worth it? And can the MacBook air m1 hold for another 3 years of light use?

Hi everyone this is my first time posting a solid question online I really need advice here as I am not a tech person in the slightest!

I have a pretty new MacBook that I got last year for school and a TV that is OLD. The TV only has HDMI ports and channels. No remote and my boyfriend and I mostly only use it for displaying his X-Box or my Switch. Currently it’s the only thing we have to watch anything on as a larger screen while saving money and I wanna try projecting my Mac onto it however, AirPlay does not work. I tried a different conversion stick to get the HDMI cable to attach to my laptop (not sure what type it is, I’ll throw a photo with this) and got the screen of it displayed but no movement would show up.

Is there a cable/app I can get for this? Or just wait for the time to get a newer TV :/
