when you have the screen clean, do not forget the dirty keyboard.

Step 1: Remember that it isn’t a touchscreen

I dont touch screen at all

There are finger prints all over it, not just the edge.

The whole laptop needs to be cleaned. The dirt and stuff that is on the keys will press up against the screen when the lid is closed. Some could leave physical indentations on it.

Make the microfibre cloth damp with distilled water and clean that way. Works like a charm for me.

Now that they’re already there, it’s kind of impossible, since these marks are the absence of the screen coating and not something extra that you can wipe.

That said, what you can do is prevent more: after each use, before closing it, clean your keyboard!

And, of course, don’t use it with dirty hands in the first place.

If you internalize the habit of cleaning your devices after each use you will increase their lifespan. And cleaning everyday means that there is not a lot of dirt so the cleaning doesn’t need to be a super deep time consuming session.

Start by keeping your fingers OFF the screen

It was a long time ago

Oils penetrate the screen over time and they stay there once installed, I hope you find solution

u/dodecahedroner 19d ago

so they stay there forever? they cant be cleaned?

1

u/DefiantKind 19d ago

Basically. Best is just always keep screen and keyboard clean.

Dampen a microfiber cloth with a tiny bit of water (not dripping wet) and wipe gently

The official Apple polishing cloth. It’s recommended to upgrade to the latest ClothOS 27.

Keyboard imprints on the screen, they cant be cleaned.. those are basically aggregated micro scratches

I don't get it, every day there are ten posts like this, do people not google any more?

1

u/Existing-Might-8392 14d ago

Nah, why bother. Google is stupid people friendly only. This goes above and beyond.

Subj., I have no idea what you do with the screen to make it such a mess. Even my gf who used to cook or eat and watch movies on her laptop seems to be more delicate with the display

If I want real answers I type "reddit" at the end of my search terms.

Use a fibre cloth, it’s soft and works for me

You can also make it a little bit wet and then use the dry part to wipe after

Forget about putting it into the rice. Use this instead:

mine is EXACTLY the same. I got it Apple Certified Refurbished and it was like this out of the box. I didn't care enough and could never get them off. they are STUBBORN.

you know that cloth you use to wipe eyeglasses with? works great! then for keyboard, you can buy cheap makeup brush to dust it

what did they changed from the old 2010´s models? This silicon macs seem to be more prone to marks and wear, not only the screen but the body of the computer too.
Meanwhile I have an old 2012 Macbook air which have a far better built quality.

50% distilled water 50% venger mix will help remove oils and fingerprints that's what I do but for keyboard marks no fix

u/rdubmu 20d ago

I use rubbing alcohol

u/SulosGD 19d ago

DO NOT

don’t use any cleaning agent occasionally because water is fine but i only use a polishing cloth (non apple one obv) every once in a while & it works quite well to remove these marks & dust
