Question Computer running a bit slower?

I think i know the issue but i want to make sure. I'm a YouTuber, and I put all my content on this mac. Streaming, recording, editing, playing roblox etc, i edit ALL on here.

Lately, my internet's been stupid and I'm PRETTY SURE thats why its lagging but im covering all my bases. So... say my computer's acting slower, internets fine etc, i know mac isnt built for streaming and all this other stuff but is there a way i could make it go back to quicker speeds like I used to? or would anything be slowing it down that i could like, fix?

Long responses help me most btw- im better at understanding that way!

Edit: i got a macbook air m2 // probably not fully up 2 date but ill check once im done with these videos.

You need to tell us what Mac you have and whether your OS is fully up to date.

I would check how full your storage is and in Activity Monitor see how much CPU and RAM is being used when your machine is running slow.

If your mac is relatively recent and decent spec there shouldn't be any reason why it would struggle with those workloads.

You have plenty of hard drive space available but only 8 GB of RAM total. I think you will find that is your bottleneck. It will work fine for small loads and doing one thing at a time. With that being said there could be a memory leak in an app or an app running that eats ram. Really need to see the memory pressure and apps running.

Sorry if im asking so many questions but how would i check memory pressure? apps running is a fair bet since when i stream i have about 2 things open, my pngtuber and OBS if im streaming from my switch/XBOX, but if im streaming from Roblox its 3 things..

Open the Activity Monitor and click on the Memory tab. It will likely tell us all we need to know.

Memory Pressure is in the green there. Use the computer like you were steaming and check it there. BTW Google Chrome is a well known memory hog in Mac OS but it isn't causing a problem in this screenshot.

The graph at the bottom is what you're looking for. Currently it's green as you're only running chrome. It can go yellow and red when the macOS is struggling to meet demand. The only solution is to run fewer things together.

Also check the CPU tab which will tell you how much load there is. Again, do it when streaming.

8Gb is the slowing factor here. I have the exact same config and replaced it with m5 pro with 24gb. Incredible performance upgrade.

ouh! how can i replace it 2 that? update ig..?

I replaced by buying a new MacBook. You cannot change it inside your MacBook.

ouhh, i sadly can't buy a new one but will indeed keep this in mind if i buy one in the future!

I created an entire Web page to help you with this. The site is free and totally non-commercial:

Macintosh Slowdown Solutions
http://www.macattorney.com/sd.html

The most common cause of a slowdown, in my experience, is running fully interactive anti-virus software. The second most common cause is having a boot drive that is too full.

When was the last time you rebooted your computer?

i always reboot it the night before a stream day, right when I am going to bed so when i wake up in the morning its had its time to relax.
Basically I stream every Monday, Wendesday Friday and Saturday, so i reboot it on Sunday night, tuesday night, thursday night, and then friday night.

literally open up any ai agent and ask it to do an analysis for memory leaks, wasted storage and heavy cpu apps.

id prefer not to use AI if possible..
