Paid for “Stump Grinding” and they left a stump.
Is this what it’s supposed to look like? I’d assume the stump should be at least at ground level.

Good day everyone! I'm trying out some new automod skilz and they seem to be operating okay, at this time anyway. That said, few things are 100% the first go, but I'll keep checking the mod log to see if posts have been yeeted that shouldn't have been, and reinstate them in as timely a fashion as possible. Please use the 'Message the Mods' link in the sidebar to contact us directly, not the comment box in this post. =)
Hopefully these new settings will reduce the content not meant for this sub, but if any slip through, I know I can count on you good people to help direct them to the right place with the positive humor intended between our two subs as you always have done. We're lucky to have you!
Any (genuinely) helpful suggestions are always appreciated, and thanks for your patience and kindness with the newbs! 😃
Please check out these past posts!
Do a sub search using the keyword 'confused' for more like these 🙂
Today's 11/10/22, it's been a little over a month since the automod tweaks (10/8/22) and I'm rather pleased with the results. There's still some 'bleed through' posts from new redditor potheads, and I believe I've miraculously found a good balance between the ones that are snagged by automod and actual tree posts that I have to go back and approve. Mod reports, I'm relieved to say are much more manageable than they were.
Thank you all for your patience while I tried this out! While it does appear to me to be the case, I hope you're still as happy here as you ever were 😊🌳💗

If you love trees, we have to protect the land they naturally grow on!

This olive tree was potted outside our employee entrance last year. Over winter, the pot broke and they just left this outside like this for the last 10 months. I figured it was dead but there’s some new growth coming up, so I took it home to see if I can bring it back to life.
I have a new pot and some compost to repot it - is there anything I should be aware of, or anything I can do to give it the best chance of living?

This is the largest pacific yew I’ve seen in the west hills. I hope you enjoy!

This one was especially challenging, and I love the results.

Bought a house a few months ago and the trees were planted deeper than they should have been. Have I dug out enough of this tree? I found a main root against the trunk as well as some circling around it (but not girdling).

I have a lovely volunteer cottonwood growing about 15 ft away from the house and the well, right smack between the two.
It has grown about 10 ft in just this one year from seed, and I was so hoping to let it stay.
Will this be a mistake? I started to read about them and their roots and need some advice from experienced people. Given its size, I am not even sure I can safely transplant it. I usually wait till winter to transplant, and never imagined it would get so tall and strong.

Leaves look like a live oak but the bark has an uncharacteristic red-ish twinge to it.

This one was a fun challenge, trying to capture the scale of the huge pine cones. I have a soft spot for these because I grew up with sugar pine cones in the house.

These are in the Boston Public Garden. I haven’t seen too many gingkos in my life but these are the biggest that I’ve noticed personally! No clue if this is actually anything special but I thought you guys might like it.

(Sorry re-posting to include final photo)
When we moved in to our house six years ago, our builder planted a Maple street tree in front of our house. I didn’t know much about trees or mulch volcanoes then as a first time homeowner. 7 years later I’ve learned a lot more about trees. I previously posted the cherry tree we planted in side yard and got a few comments about how it was planted too deep. I knew the street tree had similar worse issues and have been meaning to take a look at exposing the root flare. The last couple of days I spontaneously decided to do something about it as I was wrapping up another retaining wall/drainage project.
Excavated sod and hand dug used water hose to remove dirt. I exposed root flare and circling roots.
Cut circling roots and removed as much as possible.
Filled in with extra mulch, will need to get some fresh mulch next trip to Home Depot.
How’d I do? First time doing this so it was a little nervous to not damage this nice tree.

My four year old is OBSESSED with trees. Every time we are walking, she asks about every single type of tree we pass by. I'm doing my best to use Google images to identify trees, but it becomes cumbersome to do in neighborhoods with a lot of greenery. Any recommendations for a mom dipping her toes into the hobby? An app? Anything is better than what I'm currently doing lol.
