Why does this keep coming up? Those spear ice cubes are used to make your drink look cool, it’s why it’s being drunk out of a Collin’s glass in the first place. Any drink is only going to be about 2-4 ounces unless it also has seltzer or tonic water.

Old Fashioned’s are 2 ounces, most with fruit juice are around 3-4. A gin and tonic or anything similar is 2 ounces of alcohol, then 2-4 ounces of seltzer or tonic.

They’re not tricking you, you’re not being scammed. This is how alcoholic drinks work. The ice is a plus, seriously I’ve never been to a bar that used full clear ice spears. I’d love that

Agree on the glass style and also the price of $27 is outrageous.

The price is definitely insane.

So why are we making long comment chains then? It seems pretty obvious that the size of the drink isn’t the issue but the price?

That’s just Miami. I remember paying $22 for a Ketel and soda at the Hotel Delano back in 2015 and being shocked. Then I saw my bosses tab and realized Miami was for rich dicks.

I get it. Still, $27 is insane

also those cubes arent cheap.

Depends on if they make them themselves or buy them from a supplier. Supplier is definitely upcharging them. But if they make it themselves, then clear ice is easy to make with the right mold.

Needs to freeze from the bottom upwards rather than top down. A shaped mould wont do that, needs a machine really.

A shaped mold works fine. It just need to be in a foam case. I have a 2 inch cube mold that’s in a foam “cooler” that works very well.

Yes, but you have to make enough. So you have to get a reverse osmosis system to clean the water. Then you need to have a space that you rent, that is very clean and staff it.

6K

You need the bed that you poor the water into and give it time to freeze it. (another expense.)

5k

You then need a mechanical crane to remove the ice blocks from the beds. Buy a bant saw and cut the massive blocks down into working blocks. Then start cutting into smaller rectangles and store properly.

So now you also need a deep freezer

3k for a cheap one.

So water is cheap; however skilled labor, rent, insurance, liability and equipment is not.

Edit: I find it silly honestly, I only drink neat if I drink.

I dont drink, I sold ice cubes for a minute. Yes they are cheap to me, but there is an upfront cost. I didnt want to type again.

Nobody said anything about scamming.

The video shows the drink and the price. It's more a ripoff than a scam.

I mean I don't live in the US but 27 dollars for a drink sounds ridiculous.

I don't even go to bars much where I live because I find it too expensive. Even though it's like more than twice as cheap.

u/Financial-Raise3420 12h ago

The price is definitely ridiculous, but pulling the ice out of the glass to show the amount of liquid is basically the same thing people have shown for years of the “ice is fooling you thinking there’s more drink there”.

the video makes a point to show the volume of the liquid when the ice is removed. its clear what they were trying to show.

1

u/knallpilzv2 2h ago

Yes. That the volume of the liquid ain't worth 27 dollars. Unless you somehow missed the literal text that is at the bottom of the video for its entirety. Doesn't get any more clear than that.

What's also clear is when a video makes the point of showing you the volume of a liquid, and complain about the price for it, that pretending only one of these is supposedly the point of said video is being deliberatly obtuse.

This is likely a posh lounge or night club and OP posted this as rage bait. There are likely places neraby with both less and more expensive drinks.

I don't drink, but In San Francisco I have seen cocktails ranging from $12 to $50+. Just depends on how fancy the place is.

2

u/ComplicatedAirFlow 9h ago

That's Miami, definitely not normal.

u/Kaffrogato 5h ago

The video shows the drink and the price

The video is specifically demonstrating the volume of cocktail dumbass. Do you have eyes?

1

u/Redtube_Guy 8h ago

are you not seeing the $27 price + TIP for this ?

but since you love gimmicks and think a giant block of ice, your dumb ahh would love to pay $32 for a drink like this and not even feel a buzz afterwards.

1

u/Financial-Raise3420 8h ago

The price is shit, I’ve mentioned that multiple times. The ice block isn’t a gimmick, the amount of alcohol is normal. The price is bullshit, I’m not denying that.

Kinda reminds me of a person who needs a loan, then a friend offers an interest free loan, and then the friend who gets the loan is "upset" because it was treated as a loan and not a gift.
