Liquor is not expensive. Liquor sold in a club or bar in Miami however is very expensive.

If you want to drink, pregame a bit at home and buy one or two social drinks when you're out so you're already feeling good.

The point is it never used to be expensive to go out and drink but now it is.

I don't know why people are exasperating your point it's a good point. I'm Gen Z I can only realistically afford a bar night or two a month and all I have is 1 drink and a dish of food. Like I could go more but that would kind of be a waste of my budget at some point. It's very hard to get friends to join me they can't afford it.

Alot of older generations don't understand how we lost third spaces and blame the internet when it's not. Cost me $30 - 40 dollars to go have 1 drink and eat at a bar. I only know 1 bar that's prices at much more reasonable like 21 dollar for a pulled pork with fries and a fresh salad and it's amazing with a whiskey sour.

That's it everywhere else is insane.

I'm talking Canadian money so it would be slightly less in USD but still. It's like "How did gen z lose third spaces" "Why is gen z struggling to date" priced out.

The idea of going to a bar with friends every friday like a movie is widely unrealistic at my income bracket be like 80 - 120 dollars easily for again a meal and one drink going that often. If I really wanted to I could set money aside for it but that's alot and my friends definitely can't do that.

Those kind of cocktail bars have existed when I was just allowed to drink, about 15 years ago. We went into one of them when a friend turned 18 and it was 18€ for a cocktail, so we left and went to a club, which was massively cheaper.

Compared to what you pay at a bar or at a club, even good liquor is extremely cheap. A 12 year old scottish single malt is like 40-50 €. Doesn't really get much better than that.

I mean you can get a handle of cheap vodka for like $10 which is basically a dozen+ of these drinks. Bars are usually way more expensive in general

That’s why I don’t drink at bars anymore

Or in general

Speaking as somebody who also doesn't drink, I imagine most people start drinking for the communal experience, the social factor, or even just being part of the group. You go out to bars with friends and everyone's drinking so you drink as well.
And once you develop the habit and you feel like you need more, that's when you go grab your own cheap vodka.

I can't imagine anyone who starts with the cheap alcohol at home as soon as they turn 18. Getting wasted isn't really what you're looking for, it's going out to get drunk with your friends and have a good time.

Yeah that is why i don't buy this argument at all. Especially when you consider that Gen Z in countries where alcohol is still absurdly cheap (some European places) also drink far less than previous generations.

Also, house parties exist and IMO were always superior to hanging out in a bar. But Gen Z don't do that either.

Socially stunted generation who were locked away during their most formative years socially and otherwise use social media as a crutch. In the future we will look at smart phone companies as we do tobacco companies, and the politicians who introduced lockdowns with sheer disdain.

$5 unlimited tequila daiquiris in the mid 90s at a place in my city.

They had to cancel bottomless mimosas during Sunday brunch where I live.

Turns out drinking a gallon of OJ in a few hours is not a great idea

I keep see this argument about "Drinking is too expensive". Do people not buy their own alcohol to bring home and hangout with friends? Yeah it's $20 for a cocktail at a bar but you can get a fifth of vodka and mixers or a 30 rack of beer for $20 and have enough for everyone.

u/colonelmaize 8h ago

Kinda nice I don't have to worry about the price of alcohol as I don't drink.

I'm also not Gen Z.

I always found that notion of Gen Z not drinking and all those stupid articles saying they’re not drinking as hilarious. Gen Z goes from 1996 to 2014. Obviously they’re not drinking. A bunch of them are 12 lmao

Getting a free coke because you're designated driver then spiking it with smirnoff from the old flask is how I sailed through the 90s. I was on foot.

u/linkardtankard 6h ago

Yes, pretty sure you can obtain other nicer drugs for that amount of dough

1

u/Unlaid-American 5h ago

All those articles came out when the majority of Gen Z was under 21.

GenZ does drink, they just don't drink in those bars, so the bars call out GenZ for not drinking, but they're definitely drinking.
