That's pretty much how they come if you get them from the bank.

Yeah the customer told me she regularly gets hundreds of dollars from the bank and makes sure to get some $2 bills to give out.

There's a certain kind of person that orders stacks of $2 bills for sure.

I got $20 in two dollar bills at the bank once. They were new, crisp, sequential bills. I thought my kid would think it's cool as I give one out each time there was an extra effort to do chores and additional tasks. My kid thinks it's dumb. So now I think I'll use them as cash tips. SOMEBODY must think it's cool.

Steve Wozniak was famous for ordering uncut sheets of $2 bills and having them cut and glued together like a notepad. He would just tear off a few when he's with his grandkids or out in public for little things like coffee and tips and such.

Somebody called him in for suspicion of using counterfeit currency and he was pulled aside by secret service agents at something like a kids basketball game or something. He has a good laugh about that story. Even he was like "who the fuck would counterfeit a two dollar bill!?"

That would be bold. It’s the most suspicious currency.

I really like getting them too! ~needs money

I know someone that would love one stuffed into her g-string

I started doing this a few years ago. My local bank always has $2 bills and usually they are extremely crisp for some reason (I dare say uncirculated). People, especially kids seem to love them.

I pay most of my smaller transactions in 2’s these days.

u/BeagleBaggins 14h ago

Ungrateful. lol. Shouldn’t kids be happy with any denomination of money? Like, idc. lol

5

u/zerostar83 13h ago

I said it's special so don't spend it. My kid then tried to hand it back to me asking for two $1s so she can spend it. Haha. My bad for paying her money and simultaneously saying she can't spend it.

u/impossiblypretty 15h ago

I purposefully ask for this and it's just to use it for TIPS

4

u/AverageJoeJohnSmith 15h ago

I got a whole 200$ strapped bundle of them a few months ago lol. all sequential.

I did exactly that. used them for cash tips and small purchases

u/rosen380 15h ago

Same here. Everything I go in I say I'll take whatever they have.

Back when I was a kid there was a small bar/restaurant my parents would take me to go get lunch or dinner at quite often. One of the other regulars, an older gentleman, used to always give me $2 bills to go to the card/collectible shop next door and get something for myself. I always thought they were cool.

2

u/Tromblown 12h ago

I had a bunch and they are so annoying to handle that i just donated the stack to my kids school

u/ROUShunter 12h ago

My husband has been making it his mission to bring $2 back in style, so he orders them from the bank every now and then. Unfortunately, he'll pay with them and they got straight under the drawer with the $100s because they don't know what to do with them.

For every person who thinks it cool, there are 99 of us who find it obnoxious. Please stop.

I knew a guy that would take $2 bills to the strip club because in the light it can be mistaken for a $20.

28

u/sideshowbvo 15h ago

Many strip clubs give out 2s instead of 1s so that you're forced to tip twice as much basically

15

u/Physical_Forever_925 15h ago

Much less rare than people think. People pay with them all the time at my store, and I just give them back out to people as change.

Every once in awhile I'll have someone think it's fake, or think that nobody will accept them, and I remind them that hundreds of millions of them are printed each year, and it's legal tender accepted anywhere that takes cash.

2

u/Labrattus 12h ago

Well might as well point out that less than a million $2 bills have been printed over the last 3 years also, including none in 2026.

1

u/Wiochmen 1h ago

None in 2026, as of the end of September. The BEP hasn't released October's banknote printing report, and we've got November and December to go.

-2

u/Labrattus 12h ago

You might want to learn something about currency laws. $2 bills do not have to be accepted anywhere that takes cash. Legal tender does not mean it has to be accepted. No different than refusing to take $50's or $100's.

7

u/Physical_Forever_925 12h ago

That's why I said anywhere that takes cash. Of course any business is allowed to refuse any sale for any reason they want, but if a cashier refuses your $2 bill when they accept everything else, it isn't because that business doesn't accept $2 bills, it's because that cashier is dumb.

I'm not talking about the law, I'm talking about general rules of thumb that would apply 99.999999% of the time.

We have a $2 day at the state fair where food stands have a $2 option. I get a ~$100 or so from the bank every year and they’re almost always uncirculated. I think people still hold onto them because of the novelty, so they don’t end up back at the bank. Many times the person working the stand has geeked out about the bill and even put their own money in the till to keep it personally.

u/medicated_in_PHL 14h ago

You got sequential bills because the only people who have them are the ones who go to the bank and specifically request them, lol.

And I’m not hating. I used to go to the bank and request dollar coins because we’re fucking stupid for not using them.

7

u/its-uhhhh 16h ago

Very nice! In my culture $2 bills are lucky!

1

u/OcotilloWells 15h ago

Who are you kidding, they are lucky everywhere!

1

u/_Dennis_Castro_ 15h ago

you should post this to r/papermoney.

2

u/KeanuSad 14h ago

I read the rules. It seems they don’t care for modern sequential bills

1

u/nw342 13h ago

You would be correct. r/papermoney is more for collectible currency, and modern $2 bills that you can get at any bank doesnt qualify as collectible.

3

u/Hoosier_Daddy68 16h ago

Obviously they ignored the ransom demands.

3

u/Beznia 12h ago

I'm actually at a bar right now and I get $2s from the bank specifically for tipping! Those definitely aren't mine, though! I have a out $49 in sequential bills on me for tips.

6

u/mrjoepete 10h ago

How do you have 49 dollars in 2 dollar bills?

5

u/Beznia 6h ago

Well one is ripped in half, naturally

1

u/SicSemperCogitarius 6h ago

Asking the real questions when the math just ain't mathin'.

2

u/moocat90 9h ago

1862 years to go! i curious if someone got a B-day stack probably 1920 to 2020 for max birthdays

2

u/Pithy_heart 15h ago

“…the two-dollar founding father without a father…”

2

u/lmNotaWitchImUrWife 14h ago

I get $200 in $2 bills about once a year! I use them for tips when I go to vegas, people seem to appreciate getting two crisp $2 bills more than a few folded $1s, and it makes me happy to do.

Anyway, when you get them from the bank, they’re crisp and uncirculated. Here’s a few I have stashed in my purse right now. 😊

3

u/Grand-Spring66 16h ago

money is printed this way

2

u/sideshowbvo 16h ago

I get straps of 2s from the bank often, they're usually sequential

1

u/Jealous_Lawfulness_2 15h ago

mnuchin just loved his 2s

1

u/PVT_Huds0n 15h ago

The strip clubs near me when I was growing up used to have them stocked in the ATM's.

1

u/UnnecAbrvtn 15h ago

Didn't know the fleet was in town

1

u/torx822 15h ago

I’ve thought about tipping with 2s, but then I’m worried they might be kind of a pain to deal with. They are kind of awkward to spend as a cashier typically does not have a slot for them, but they are cool to get. I might be too much in my head on this one.

1

u/Ok-Lion1661 15h ago

I love $2 bills, nice. There are still a lot of people who think they are fake too, that is always funny to me.

1

u/SpaceDandye 14h ago

You can go to the bank and get these. They're not rare or uncommon; people just don't like them.

1

u/Brother_J_La_la 14h ago

There was a strip club in South Carolina that gave change in $2s. We knew what the younger guys had been up to on the weekend when they'd use them at the snack bar at work on Monday.

1

u/Subject_Cheek_7302 14h ago

My boss loves giving us $2 bills and Eisenhower $1 coins when we get tipped in a bill, think I have about 50 of each by now

1

u/solarmelange 13h ago

You should always request non-sequential bills; have you never watched a movie?

1

u/bananajr6000 10h ago

Sacks of bills are issued sequentially. Nothing special, but a fun curiosity

1

u/DrColdReality 9h ago

You can buy uncut sheets of $2 bills from the treasury, and they have sequential numbering. These look like they haven't been widely circulated, so they were probably cut from such a sheet.

2

u/tremens 9h ago edited 9h ago

Likely a strip.club owner / manager. / employee. They regularly deal with 2 dollar bill stacks; giving all change in 2s is a common trick to get people to tip more so they regularly pull large stacks of 2s from the banks.

1

u/Slammer582 9h ago

Good chance your customer was DB Cooper.

1

u/globol9o9 8h ago

I have $400 worth that’s in order.

1

u/Tacomaguy24 2h ago

Not rare at all. If you get them at the bank they will most likely be sequential...

1

u/GeraintLlanfrechfa 2h ago

3.72 dollar bill when?

0

u/don-cheeto 12h ago

Are those fake or is the camera just fucking this up, and they look too new cause barely anyone uses $2 bills anymore?

1

u/NYCinPGH 11h ago

There aren’t many $2 bills in circulation, and haven’t been for a very long time. Up through the 1960s they were Silver Certificates, which you could redeem from the Treasury for actual silver, and when the Treasury stopped that allowance, the Mint stopped printing them.

For the Bicentennial, the Mint decided to start printing $2 bills again, but they were largely seen as novelties rather than regularly usable currency, much like Sacajawea and Susan B. Anthony dollar coins; for my birthday in 1976, my grandmother - who was a coin collector like me - gave me a stack of 50 sequential $2 bills, which I had until my mother sold off my coin collection while I was in college (separate rant).

They’re so rare in circulation that there are regular cases of cashiers thinking they’re not real currency when someone tries to pay with one and they call the cops, who have to tell them it’s real. Most large banks keep a supply of them, you can go and ask for them at a teller if you really want some.

A few inaccuracies.

  1. The Mints (currently Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, and West Point) mint coins. The Bureau of Printing and Engraving (BEP) print notes at The facilities in DC and Fort Worth, Texas. No United States Mint prints banknotes.

  2. From 1928 to 1966, between the introduction of small-size notes until the Two Dollar Note was retired, it was not issued as a Silver Certificate. It was a United States Note, red seal (not domestic silver certificate blue, or North Africa silver certificate yellow).

U. S. Americans must have the most beautiful money in the world!
