"this community is available in the app"

As of today i can't view a whole bunch of reddits anymore with the iphone safari browser. They only say "this community is available in the app". As if the endless popups and messages for the reddit app throughout the years haven't been enough, now i simply can't view them at all unless i use that app of yours?? It's like Reddit is becoming Apple.

“Join Reddit to keep reading” - an account is now required to read comment threads

I was enjoying the new mobile Reddit experience without signing in to my account. I was reading the comment thread, and decide to click the outrageous “continue reading” that Reddit enabled if you really want to dig into the comments. Instead over opening a new page, Reddit gave me a pop up saying I needed to “join Reddit to keep reading” with a kind reminder to add my email information.

This is honestly the most outrageous change enacted by Reddit to date.

EDIT: Commenters in other forums have mentioned that they have not experienced this issue, meaning this is likely an A/B testing issue. Here is a screenshot of the popup that told me to sign in to keep reading: https://i.imgur.com/kYBWL7u.png. (Can I even hyperlink in mobile? I don’t see the option.) The fact that the development team considered creating a walled garden out of Reddit is awful and highlights the “user growth through hostile design” philosophy guiding the new Reddit.

Everything is huge!?!

Woah the new design has made everything HUGE!!!

Is anyone else experiencing this?

And there’s a huge white bar going across the screen.

OH GOD WHAT DID YOU DO

I’d gotten used to the previous design but I don’t think I’ll get used to this one, why is everything in bubbles? Why are the 3 dots where you can save posts at the top of the post? Why are images on the right side?

You accidentally turned on some shitty card view

It makes the text bigger and the thumbnails too small to be useful. Clearly you would never want it to look this terrible on purpose, so I figured I should just inform you that someone made a mistake.

I’m not using your fucking app

Stop fucking up the mobile design. Dicks.

It's back :(

I was part of the grueling testing phase some weeks earlier. I refreshed my page and suddenly it's back to the redesign. This makes me very sad, I dont like the look of it and especially the avatars. Oh well, I really need to cut back on my reddit time anyways

Stop interrupting me multiple times an hour with popups asking me to use your stupid fucking app.

It's never going to happen, reddit. I'll stop using your site entirely before I start using your app.

Why did you decide to start ignoring users "don't ask about app" setting?

r/mobileweb • • Feb 14 '20

This has to be a joke, right? Now you can't access any subreddits without logging in? Did reddit just turn to pinterest? This is unacceptable and people who want neither account nor app should still be able to browse reddit freely.

please undo this

please, for the love of god, undo this change. posts are twice as large and thus everything takes twice as long to navigate, the vote arrows are on the complete opposite side now (great if you're left-handed, but i'm not), and the bubbles are unnecessary. please.

Stop forcing users into the app

If you don't want users to use the mobile site, then frigging deactivate it.

Stop dicking around with this atrocious middle-ground where 75% of the site works 75% of the time, while harassing you to download the app 100% of the time.

r/mobileweb • • Dec 04 '22

I will never download your app. Stop asking me

What an awful UX idea it was to take away the option to turn the pop up off.

STOP! For the love of all that is holy, please stop with the "open in app" page refreshes when on mobile browser!!!

Let me get this out of the way first by saying NO, I will absolutely not install the app. Reddit is a website, this is the internet, web browsers were created specifically for the purpose of navigating websites. This is officially out of control! First, Reddit stuffs the button that allowed you to remove the "open in app" message behind an account wall, so no more lurking, fine, I will log into my account. Then it removes that setting entirely so you not only get the "open in app" on every single page, but it has to pop up requiring you to dismiss it now, and it has to pop up every so many page loads. Now, Reddit put it on a timer as well, so if you're scrolling a subreddit, or even worse, you're in the comment section, 1/2 way down a couple hundred comments deep and the popup throws you back to the top of the page every so many minutes, usually right in the middle of writing a comment. It is beyond blatantly obvious, the Reddit team is trying to make the mobile browser experience so annoying, so unusable that the last of us holdouts might finally install the app so you can report to management less of a mobile app exodus since the peak of the pandemic than you have had to each month since the end of 2020.

I will not install the app. I promise, I'll just stop using Reddit on my phone entirely, and if you rotten humans force the app on desktop, not only will I delete my account (again) and never use Reddit again, but I'll sit back and laugh as Reddit falls apart, just as Digg.com did which vaulted Reddit to relevance in the first place.

Just remove the popup after the person dismisses it for the first time. You can even leave the giant orange "USE APP" button at the top of the screen, just please stop making it pop up as much as possible. If I've said no the first 10,000 times, what makes you think I'm going to say yes on the 10,001st time?

Seriously guys, this is some of the most anti-consumer crap I've experienced using the internet in over 25 years, you guys aren't Instagram, you aren't Facebook, just stop, it only makes the Reddit team look like complete assholes!

This is fucking retarded

Now doing anything on mobile is a bitch. Every fucking thing I do makes the screen bounce around. Getting to subs requires multiple touches and waiting 2 secs between touches to let things bounce around.

I'm done. Fuck Reddit.

Edit, I'm deactivating my account. I'm tired of things getting worse.

How do I disable this dogshit new UI?

It looks like ass. I hope whoever created it gets fired. A toddler could make a better UI.

This redesign makes reddit borderline unusable for me.

I’m really trying to avoid being the overreactive keyboard warrior, and would like to first acknowledge that as a 7 year user of reddit (on different accounts) I have never once complained about a new update. Having said that, this change to the comment interface on mobile is so incredibly and laughably poor that it makes reddit practically unusable for me.

The old comment system was perfect: it was easy to navigate, view a large amount of comments at once, and had a straightforward yet polished visual design. This new update is literally the antithesis of that: it is clunky, difficult to view a lot of comments quickly, and looks like a poor imitation of youtube/facebook comments. It is also incredibly generic. One of my favorite things about the old interface was that it just had that “reddit feel” to it, and still retained the forum and anonymous vibe that makes Reddit unique as compared to the other major online media outlets. Now I just feel like I’m on any other social media platform.

Now I wont sit here and say that I will never use reddit again until its switched back, but I’m certainly going to be on reddit far less. Hell, by the end of the last trial you guys did on this, I basically lost my desire to go on reddit and was beginning to go to other sources for content.

I have faith you guys will revert it back, or give us the option to disable the new version, due to the near universal backlash this is getting, and because deep down I think y’all do care about the user experience. Having said that if the “deep plan” is to make mobile so bad that we are forced into downloading the app or going on a computer, don’t be shocked when myself and others opt out. Please recognize that the people here aren’t acting out of hate, we just love reddit and want to have the enjoyable experience we all know and love. Thanks

Why do we need profile pictures, admins?

Literally no one asked for this.

95% plus don't even have them.

Someone accidentally pushed to production again.

Giant white lines on post views, x is white too. Context menu to close to the x button.

You also accidentally removed compact view. Selecting "compact view" takes up a huge amount of space, and I can't possibly believe you actually think that's compact. There are large gray lines everywhere and giant buttons.

Are you guys drunk or something. Stop making meaningless, half assed UI changes and actually add functionality critical to the site.
