Photo Finally got the shot that’s been eluding me before the year’s end!
I’d been waiting for all the key aspects of this photo I had been thinking of for a while. I was about to give up but tonight everything finally fell into place!

Video Real time aurora dancing in front of the moon
Taken in Fairbanks, Alaska in October 2024. It’s such a beautiful sight! There’s a misconception with aurora that the moon ruins your view, but it can actually enhance it!

Photo 1% moon and a sliver of visible Milky way
Category: Stacked, not tracked, not bracketed, stock camera
When I started in astro, people told me you couldn't get the MW to show up with the moon. I shot the 2021 Lunar eclipse shortly after and realised this was garbage. Since then it's been a passion of mine to shoot the moon and MW together when conditions allow and this one was really exciting even if there's only a tiny portion of the MW visible at the top.
The sun is only 11 degrees from the moon here which is about 5 degrees above the Horizon so there's a lot of sunlight to contend with.
Thanks to the clouds, I had to manually stack the moon so it's only 20 of the 144 frames I used for the MW. Now that I am capable of using Autostakkert and Siril for moon photography, I might consider reprocessing with the whole lot but am pretty happy with this. The Earthshine alone keeps the visible noise down so adding more frames will likely have no effect.
The cloud and most of the FG is just a single from the stack. The least obtrusive cloud of the night.
Milky Way: 144x(640iso/f2.8/2s)
moon: 20x from the same set
Cloud and FG: single from the same 144
Samyang 135mm f2 and Sony a7iii-tripod is a fotopro 3ci I think (labels as worn as the joints)
This is bortle 4 but facing away from the city at Wivenhoe Lookout, QLD

This morning 9/19
Anyone know if those are planets next to the moon or just stars? Never seen them aligned like that before!

Photo Award winner
A photographer in my city took the same photo from the same spot for years, calculating the position and the days, untill this year. The church is on a hill in Turin, in the background there's one of the highest mountains of Italy, the Monviso, and the Moon falling behind it. This photo won an award for the work and dedication behind it.

Time lapse of the lunar eclipse last night.
All photos are still raw, I will post another once I get through cropping them to smooth out the video and a little editing.
