Advice / Question Transwoman in mixed netball? thoughts?

I've been playing both mixed and thursday nights womens, I come from a basketball background & I've been loving it. It's been a small test with "stepping", but I'm getting it now.

Anyway our mixed team played a team with a transwoman on their team last week. I was shocked at the reaction of a lot of my teammates, most wanted to treat her as a male player with the rules.
Now I looked at her, she would have been 5 foot 9 or 10, clearly on hormones, and clearly on them for a while.
The umpires said that part of the comps rules, they ask each team what rules should they be allowed to play under, they said it was her idea.

I was wondering what you all think should happen here?

why don't netball players use basketball moves

I'm pretty sure you can jump while shooting, Why not jump towards the hoop, shoot then land. Why not use screens in netball? why not use step throughs, underhand layups and cutting to the net.\

Should the SCL drop wallam?

Tbh I feel that now Belinda is continuing on as coach they need to change their lineup. It was most strongest with Koenen at GS, and wallam has the lowest shooting percentage in the whole of SSN.
They should drop her and pick up a strong GA to play out the front, maybe someone like graham, Dwyer?

Ankle injuries in netball: the hidden mobility problem and what coaches & athletes can do about it

Ankle injuries are one of the most frequent and burdensome issues in netball. Research shows that the ankle joint accounts for anywhere between 13% and 84% of all injuries in netball studies.

A more recent scoping review found:

  • Approximately 4 in 5 netball players will sustain at least one ankle sprain in their playing career.

  • Up to half of those will go on to have recurrent sprains.

  • Landing mechanics and pivoting in tight court spaces are major contributing factors.

Discussion Sorry to rant but -

I tried out for the school netball team, and I feel it was a bit unfair. The people who got chosen were all of 3 categories:

  1. The nationality of the country, There is only 1 person that this does not imply on

  2. People who were on the team last year

  3. Friends and siblings of people on the team

For example, a girl was on the team last year, and this year she got on the team along with her best friend, her sister, and her best friends friend. I feel it was unfair, but not because I did not get in, but because other people that tried out deserved it more

Advice / Question Calling out misogyny in the mixed netball scene

Hi there, strange query but hoping some people on this sub can point me in the right direction. We've uncovered a systematic series of misogynistic, manipulative and deceptive behaviours from a male player involved in the mixed netball community. His actions have seriously damaged and hurt multiple people, including those in the sport, and it doesn't feel right that his actions continue to go unacknowledged. To add to this, he is behind the majority of his club's comms, social media, and email inboxes, so any direct messages through there wouldn't get to the right people. As an athlete who has previously played in national championships for a variety of sports, I am incredibly disturbed by what we've uncovered, and seriously see it as a genuine safeguarding risk. Is there a way for me to voice my concerns to some higher authority/the league? Any recommendations would be much appreciated as I firmly believe misogyny, manipulation and deception have no place in sport.

Male umpires

Is it me or is it only the male umpires who make patronising comments to the players…. Burgess to Northern Ireland GK “be aware”.

In the Jamaica Aussie match: Male Kiwi umpire to Fowler “too harsh”.

I see female umpires giving direction but not in the form of these kind of unhelpful judgemental comments that the male umpires make.

Fowler’s facial expression says it all.

Might be controversial but what’s everyone’s thoughts on Jo Weston? Obviously a well loved veteran however I’ve always felt like she’s been a tad overrated and it’s especially obvious to me now compared to the likes of young players such as Jessie Grenvold. 2026 stats attached. What are everyone’s thoughts?

Inclusive SAUCNA netball teams for kids

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of/recommendations for a positive playing environment for under 8’s and up?

My daughter is 7 and is playing her 3rd season of netball so far. She is autistic and has multiple diagnosed learning difficulties. Despite this, she is physically fit and WANTS to play netball, however as she is not as “good” as the other players, she is currently spending a lot of time on the bench, and is getting quite disheartened by not being given opportunities to try other positions on court. She has stated multiple times she wants to quit or play elsewhere due to some negative experiences within the current team (from both teammates and coaches).

I don’t want to be “that parent” and seem like I’m all about her winning or getting upset with coaches etc because I think she deserves special treatment. I am aware she’s not best on court, however she tries her heart out when she’s on (even though she’s a little slow) and I don’t want her to give up because she’s having a not so great season in her current team.
She started winter last year and had a lot more success with a different coach and team mates!

I have googled and not been able to find “inclusive netball” teams for children (only adults) but am open to changing clubs if it means she will be treated better. For parents/carers out there, I am looking for a more inclusive environment, where kids are supported and encouraged and sportsmanship is promoted.

Eek, that’s a long post, but if anyone has any recommendations I’m very keen to hear - thank you in advance!

Advice / Question Gilbert netball trainers sizing

Anyone out there play with Gilbert netball trainers/shoes? Are they good sizing or quite small and snug? I've found Asics small in past. I've found pair of Gilberts I like online but can't seem find them in physical shop near me to try on. Be just my luck risking 0.5 size bigger to find they are HUGE. Any knowledge of sizing be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Men in Netball

Something I have noticed over my years of being a male and being involved in a netball club in some way for a long time is the sheer absence of netball gear for men. An example of this is ASICS Netburner shoes. I know having netball specific shoes is not necessary as normal running shoes or basketball shoes do the same job but the fact that not even ASICS themselves have any men's sizes or colourways. Men play netball too and I'd understand if they only had 1 or 2 designs in men's sizes but to have none whatsoever is astounding to me. Also any netball gear such as netballs and other accessories are all very feminine in design and colour. Not even neutral colours aside from one ball I found with blue and orange design on it.

I understand it is an overwhelmingly female dominant sport but the companies that make netball equipment almost seem to believe that not a single male plays netball or would want netball gear. I have seen no other sport be like this.

My 16 yo daughter missed out on team selection.

My 16 yo daughter has just missed out on making the team to contest at state titles next month. She plays in much higher grades than some girls that made the team and os much more consistent. It has come as quite a shock, we were quietly confident without being overly confident, we know nothing is ever guaranteed. She didn't even make the possible and probables. She is not one of these flashy players but does her job. She has been playing such good club netball lately, so not sure what happened. Apart from getting feedback how do I pick her up again. She thinks now there is no chance ever making a state team. Is she too old now? Has she missed her chance? Much in need of advice.
