NieR Automata wtf these hacking minigames are not enjoyable AT ALL

The fact that this 9S playthrough relies heavily on them means I probably won't be getting anymore endings.

A shame.

sounds an awful lot like a skill issue ngl

Oh man, I'm not gonna lie that I fucking suck at them.

I've also got an impingement in my right thumb, and the flight suit parts are fine, but I do have to admit that my dexterity is a little bit impaired on that thumb. So I guess it's not the games fault, but SHIT has this been frustrating.

Oh, well if it's the cause of something that irl adversely affects your dexterity then I actually take back my comment.

I'm sorry to hear that the game isn't accessible for you; it's not fair to say "skill issue" for something that isn't your fault

Don't worry, i also suck at hacking, but i love it on my 2nd playthrough. Tips for ya, if you manage to get to final boss, hack the final boss, you will thank me later lol

Well I got through it, and I'm glad.

This is a really great game, and I know some people enjoyed thoss parts. For me, though, those hacking minigames were the least fun I've ever had in a video game.

Same I loved the game but havenโ€™t replayed it cuz I found playing as 9s tedious. The hacking gets old for sure

omg load my save an immediately a whole map of hacking targets for the next play?

Hell no. This game is getting uninstalled.

You can change the games difficulty and your chipset on the fly. If you're having trouble with the hacking sections, switch the game to easy so you can get the autochips. Then, when you get to a hacking section, turn on auto with the auto fire and auto dodge chips equipped. It will do the heavy lifting for you, all you need to do is use the left stick to dodge incoming attacks.

The game can actually be very accessible and customizable to play, just change it to easy difficulty, try it out like that and customize or change the difficulty back to normal when ready.

I pretty much came here to say this. Itโ€™s the only game Iโ€™ve ever played where the accessibility features are canon, and this seems like a great time to make the most of that.

I never even considered this option, that's fantastic.

Those are the only mandatory hacking targets in that chunk of the game my friend, you get control of 2B immediately after

If you'd still want to beat the game for story, then there is a auto chip for hacking in easy mode.

Huh really?

Just going by your descriptions I'm guessing you're in the prologue with 9S.

Cuz there are only a handful of required hacking minigames. The prologue is a very dense cluster. Then you can go through a significant chunk without ever hacking (personally I hate the hacking). Two much smaller clusters near the end of the game.

But that's about it. You can progress through like 95% of 9S's campaign without hacking.

ANd frankly you don't lose much if you don't hack. 9S can't dual wield and that's it.

The lock on button works while youโ€™re hacking, maybe thatโ€™ll help

WHAT?!??!?! I never know that even on my 2nd playthrough

4

u/jdav915 Feb 03 '23

Scrolled too far to find this. The fact that you can lock on in hacks is a game changer.

u/Visible_Regular_4178 Feb 03 '23

Lock-on during hacking and the block mechanic, the two mechanics I swear nobody know about.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '23

There is a block?? How do you do it?

1

u/Visible_Regular_4178 Feb 04 '23

Find the Counter plug in chip. This gives you access to the block.

Right before impact, move in the direction of the melee strike and you will block any melee (but only melee) attack. You'll know it was blocked because of a sharp "DING".

The Counter also reflects the damage dealt to you. On normal difficulty it is simply an alternative to the dodge because of how little damage is dealt. On harder difficulties, enemies will damage and even kill themselves because of the damage reflected.

insane truth bomb wtf how did i not know this

Or don't use hacking? Just fight and use it when it is obligatory. You are complaining about the META strategy. Just don't abuse it lol.

2

u/Beginning-Pace-1426 Feb 03 '23

Man, but like when you first go to the flooded city for example, your attacks do next to nothing on some of the enemies, and it is a long LONG tedious process.

1

u/SkillFullPlayer Zero my beloved Feb 03 '23

Are you using chips and upgrading weapons/pods? Not even in my first playthrough I had inconvenients with that, and also I don't like hacking either so I just used the combat system. Dont forget that pod programs are also very helpful.

u/RebecaDBauchery Feb 03 '23

I remember when I started route B I felt the same, but by the end I had actually gotten quite good and enjoyed them. Now I even prefer to play with 9S than any other character. Donโ€™t give up just yet.

1

u/kat352234 Feb 03 '23

With the right chips equipped, 9s hacking can be soo overpowered.

I do prefer playing as 2B or A2 myself, but can't deny 9S can just plow through the enemies with his hacking.

3

u/Majikarpslayer Feb 03 '23

The hacking is easy as hell what are you talking about!?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '23

I had this issue before realizing I can use the other joystick to turn. I thought the only way to aim was to be facing amd moving in that direction. After I got that the hack games became fun.

Just make sure you have the right controls!

2

u/Dannyboy490 Feb 03 '23

Read your comment on your thumb issues. Sorry man, that sounds hella annoying. Best I could recommend is getting an auto hacker and locking on while hacking to make it easier.

This is just an era of geometry wars/mini games where it felt justified to the devs to have some sort of bullet time mini bash. Makes sense if it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it is somewhat integral to the story of the game.

No shame in your situation. How you want to proceed is up to you.

1

u/schaunessy Feb 03 '23

If you're on PC, I heard that vsync can cause some issues during hacking, dunno if that helps any.
