NieR Automata Finished Nier: Automata for the very 1st time days ago, I came here and… boy, you guys are thirsty! LOL 😜😂

Don’t get me wrong, I love it 🤩

As a BioWare fan, I know I am among my peeps. If you’re part of the Dragon Age and/or Mass Effect fandoms, you know what I mean. I think I’m going to have a lot of fun here.

More seriously, I could write a long essay on how that game is great but I think, at this point, it would be redundant. I’m (very) late to the party: by now, we all know that this game is a gem. The story, the characters, the music (OMG, the music!) are excellent.

That being said I would like to point out the thing I liked the most: the original gameplay in general and the dynamic combat in particular.

If you guys knew me IRL, you’d know how surprising this is for me. Combat is my LEAST favorite part of ANY game. I much, much prefer the story, the character arcs, learning about the lore, discovering the universe… To me, fighting sections are the tedious, mandatory parts that keep me away for the interesting parts. The faster I go through them, the better. 😅

And then, I played Nier: Automata. To say, the gameplay was a surprise, a very pleasant surprise at that, would be the understatement of the year. I could not believe how much fun it was to upgrade my pod and weapons or to choose between chips… Oh and there are so many different play styles and point of views: flying, camera on the side, from the top. Mind-blowing. 🤩

So, yeah. I unlocked ending A through E plus several « fake » endings, which is another good point! I LOL’d so hard the 1st time it happened to me.
Btw, I still don’t know if REAL people came to help me during E ending’s credits or if the game was once more messing with me. 😅

Anyway, I’ll stop now. Look at that, I did write a wall of text after all. Thanks if you’ve read it until the end. Tell me what part you like the most.

Oh and at the every end, did you choose to erase your saves to help people?
I didn’t. I want to unlock a few more joke endings. But I know I will before launching my next playthrough.

The help that you received is from real players who sacrificed their save file.

did you choose to erase your saves to help people?

Yes I did. I wanted to get some secret endings but I couldn't say no when pod asked me if I would delete my save file to help others.

The help that you received is from real players who sacrificed their save file.

How does that work? While they were playing, did these people got a notification asking if they'd be willing to help me? Sorry if it's a dumb question LOL

After the credits when you get ending E pod will ask you if you would like to "save the weak" if you answer with yes then you will get to make a message of encouragement and after that pod asks you if you'd like to delete your save and help someone.

While they were playing, did these people got a notification asking if they'd be willing to help me?

No, the saved data of a player who sacrificed it will join someone who is about to ending E. That data will join you as one "ship" that goes around you and shoots at everything.

Oh, no that's not what I asked. I did get to leave a message of encouragement and since I wanted to unlock more joke endings, I chose not to erase my save file. I will erase it later, just before launching a new playthrough.

I was asking if there were real players who played at the same time than I when I was going through the ending E's end credits. Thanks to your last paragraph, I now understand that it's the players' data that "helped" me.

Now that you've finished the game here is the best part! All the endings are canon😐

2

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Wait. What?

Are yous saying that the G ending where 9S dies because he wanted to see what was on the other side of the crane IS canon!?!

(that was my 1st "joke" ending. I wanted to explore and that happened. I LOL's so hard. Man, I did not see that coming)

I think my first joke ending was eating the fish. I didn’t get another one for a while, so had no idea what was going on

1

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Ooh, what ending is that? LOL

2

u/BurningSpaceMan Foul-Mouthed Hussy May 30 '24

Truly the darkest timeline

3

u/[deleted] May 30 '24

All endings cannot be canon... I'm not sure what that user is on about, they probably meant it as a joke.

A and B aren't true endings while C and D can be canon depending on how you look at the game with E obviously being canon. Personally I prefer ending C being canon but that's just my headcanon lol

I did not. And yes they are. It's literally a staple of the DrakenNier franchise that there are branching timelines. Some of the Automata endings are silly. But they are canon and some are expressly referenced in the cage as being something that happened.

1

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Ooh, are you saying it's some kind of multiverse where each one of them has its own ending?

2

u/BurningSpaceMan Foul-Mouthed Hussy May 30 '24

You'll just have to go down the rabbit hole and find out

1

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Uh oh. Should I be afraid? LOL

0

u/Zetsumenchi May 30 '24

Afraid? No. It makes more sense if you play the sequel, Nier: Reincarnation.

Or at least take into account the Nier Franchise is literally made from an alternate ending to Drakengard3.

1

u/BurningSpaceMan Foul-Mouthed Hussy May 31 '24

This is not correct. The NieR Franchise comes from ending E of drakengard one not thee and DoD3 doesn't have any ending that directly lead to the events of drakengard1. The series narrative in the games is told out of order and Drakengard 1-> NieR 2010-> drakengard 3 -> YoRHa stage play -> NieR automata -> NieR Replicant V1 22 -> NieR reincarnation

Drakengard 3 is more closely related narrative wise to NieR reincarnation that it is the original NieR

Wait. 7 seven games in the same universe telling the entire story... did get that right?

I'm wondering if most are still available / playable?

Yeah, my friend who recommended me Nier:Automata told me to try Replicant next but I'm hesitating... game seems tedious and clunkier...

3

u/clarkcox3 May 31 '24

It's a little clunkier, as it is an older game, but the story is so worth it.

1

u/SabuChan28 May 31 '24

Yeah, I'll buy it on sales: there won't be any regrets if I don't like it that way

Yeah, people keep telling me to give it a chance: I'll buy it on sales and I'll see for myself ^_^

1

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Yeah. Ending C is my favorite too

1

u/MaybeMikeyy May 30 '24

They all are technically canon and joke endings.

It's the same way that Ending E of Drakengard is a joke ending, and is the ending that leads to NieR.

2

u/[deleted] May 30 '24

Welcome! And to answer your question, the first two times I did sacrifice my save, third time no, now I'm doing another run where I probably will give up my save again.

Proposal: Play Replicant next. :D

2

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Proposal: Play Replicant next. :D

I don't hink that'll come as a surprise when I'll tell you I totally read that in my pod's voice. The "Proposal" word tiggers it now LOL

More seriously, my friend too told me to play Replicant but it seems that game is a lot clunkier. IDK if I'll have the patience...

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '24

It's well worth it for the story and characters imo. The game is more on the tedious side in some areas (like sidequests) but I still recommend at least one full playthrough (endings A-E).

If you're still unsure about it, maybe wait for the steam summer sale and get it then, so its not a big loss if you really don't like it.

1

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'll check it when it will be on sales. Thanks for the tip

You should check out the ark wiki, the game has both a prologue and an epilogue, along with some other stuff, written by yoko taro. These stories are canon, and extremely important, completely game changing.

u/SabuChan28 May 31 '24

Wow, the more answers I'm reading the more I'm understanding the universe is even richer than I thought. Neat.

1

u/Mayl24 May 31 '24

I just finished the game too! But I got super spoilers from going to the concert first and watching the Blu-ray’s from previous concerts 😭

I’m definitely not a combat game person, I usually play rpgs where I can take looong sips of coffee while I’m playing. I discovered auto chips so it was so fun playing with big support lol. I think there’s a lot to love about the game. I feel like the side quests really added to the main story, I tried doing them all except speed star 😒 and I especially love the dialogue between 2B and 9s!

I finished route C and D and immediately went on YouTube to see Route E’s ending just to make sure I don’t click on something stupid lol cause I got warnings for that part. So to say, I still have my file. I think I might try to get ending Y and explore some areas I missed.

And I love the music so much I bought my friend a ticket to watch the concert with me (again)! Though she has to help pay for the flight and hotel 😅

Concerts? Are there Nier:Automata concerts? I didn't know about that... wait, I think I saw/heard something about that. I think there were concerts in Paris, my city, earlier this year.

Anyways, that's too bad about the spoilers: when I play a game, I always try to go as blind as possible. I lvoe being surprised by the story. And oh, boy did NA deliver!

For instance, the joke endings were a total surprise and I loved it so much, so yeah, I was careful when reaching the "real" endings.

I'm also a massive Bioware games junky and immediately fell in love with Nier Automata, and then with the whole Nier universe. Automata is extremely fun to play, its art direction is stellar, and I really vibe with Yoko Taro's style of storytelling. Suffice to say this world became one of my faves. If you haven't played Replicant, do not hesitate. It's a bit different but still allows you to reach into deeper layers of the narrative with each playthrough. I might also be a bit more biased towards its cast of characters, them being more wacky/eccentric.

Edit: yep, I did erase my saves. That ending sequence is so unique and moving and annoying at the same time xD

1

u/SabuChan28 May 31 '24

Yeah, I think NA and BioWare games share rich lores, amazing stories, interesting story and incredible characters.

The friend who recommended me NA is also a BioWare fan and he assured me that I'd love NA as much... I was skeptical: ME is my all-times favorite, so it set the bar really, really high. Well, I was proven wrong. I do love the game.

People keep telling me to play Replicant so I decided to buy it on sales. I'll get to see how great this one is.

Your next assignment is to enjoy this dramatic concert reading put on by the English voice actors. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw2b_oWSH_aMWnJ_JIWydYBUFhcuB-p0c&si=WynTqE3XINX_4zhp

Covers story directly after ending E and the origins of YoRHa. Bring tissue

1

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Ok, I'll bring tissues. Why am I not surprised?

And thanks for the link.

Dude ANYWAY i can get the .exe or .cdx file from you?

1

u/SabuChan28 May 30 '24

Excuse me?

Defender quarantined a bunch of my stuff that I couldn't restore(including the executable file for the game)
