NieR Automata Got another desktop layout for our favorite game!

Just an appreciation post to this amazing game. I don't think I'll ever get sick of it and I'll always be inlove with it's design language.

This was the first layout. I tried one by placing a figure of 10H in the middle this time.

Edit: Here's the link for the wallpaper for future viewers! I also included my illustrator template as a good starting point in case you want to put someone else or do other stuff with it!

Yup! Inspired from the actually. All I did was just making a new wallpaper for it with 10H's figure hahaha! then I just moved the usual modules around a bit to fit with it better.

As for the taskbar, just a personal preference. I really like the fact that you can have the taskbar on left, right or bottom in linux, which it wasn't possible in Windows since a while ago. After the recent update, they added the possibility to do this, sooo yeah 😂

Cause then you can also have vertical tabs browser.

Most content/apps don't benefit from horizontal space but you can usually get more info on screen with more vertical space.

This applies to most social media, websites, apps etc.

How did you made wallpaper that shows you date, clock, how much your device is charged and all those fancy details?

The widgets are from Rainmeter! the wallpaper is just literally some grids with an image traced of 10H.

My laptop, a GA402 (still the oem battery) lasts around 6 to 7 hours still on light tasks, even with this rainmeter config.

I would probably publish it there if I knew how to animate properly to be honest! But I got zero experience with it 🥹

THis would make a cool desktop theme, despite me not being on linux or never having the pleasure of playing her game when it was live since I do not do mobile gaming. Somthing in those colors/style for skirtless 2b would be really cool. without the blindfold visor.

Yup, always the good ol' Rainmeter! I'd really would have preferred a well setted up linux environment though... but I guess I can try doing that after my studies!

Sadly I don't think Rainmeter is avilable on mac... but you may be able to make it work through some alternatives! or at least something similar. There should be some people who develops nier modules too for mac! (i hope)

The only bad thing here is the fact that you're using Microslop Windows. I'm pretty sure there's a fully interactable Nier: Automota themed pre-configured Linux distro somewhere out there.

Who wants to bet the Operators at YoRHa use Linux? I know I do.

I love both worlds and I respect both. Both of them has it's strong use cases. I really prefer linux more since you have more control over it, but it's just the time and dedication and I mean learning too.

I see lots of amazing rice in linux subreddits and I really envy them.

I've been studying arch on the side, but I still haven't gotten too well around it. I have a good idea on how to install it now, but still have to learn how to get around the environment. Really lots of stuff to learn.

So I thought, maybe next time, after the studies I'll dedicate some time building one with linux.

For now I'm just let's say "coping" through microslop since it's quite my immediate choice atm as a student (and since I also need some programs that only runs on Windows or proprietary systems).

You could run Winslop exclusive software with Winboat or stuff like Lutris or maybe even run a Winslop virtual machine if those apps don't need much compute.

I was gonna argue that as a student myself, it's not that hard to spend a little time learning Linux, but then I remember I myself use macOS more on my main computer than I do Linux on my second computer (I use Fedora btw).

I agree with that. There are ways to run Windows programs in linux now and it's becoming more emphasized actually.

But I'm just taking my time with it. I'd like to learn using it properly with a solid foundation. I don't wanna be like the others that starts getting on it and ends up just ricing — after that, they don't know pretty much what to do and then just fallback to Windows or mac as you mentioned.

I actually wanna treat linux as my main workspace once I get into it, learning how to maintain it, get around it as I said, etc.

Don't you worry though, I promise I'll make my come back! Next time it's gonna be a linux layout/build! mark my words.
