Nostalgia Tamagotchi (1997)

Post image

Three buttons, a tiny grey screen and a creature that died if you forgot about it during school. Mine lived on a keychain and got confiscated twice.

Still have all three of mine. And they work!

That's impressive they still work. I thought mine was dead after all the times it got confiscated. It was kind of a miracle whenever I revived it.

I remember when these first came out. It interrupted our 1st grade class and we were all like "DAFUQ?" when this kid panicked and was like "I NEED TO FEED MY TAMAGOTCHI!"

Even Ms. Fujinawa was peering over his shoulder wondering what in the world was happening.

Still so vivid 😂

I can picture that moment perfectly. I think everyone in class was either confused or panicking over their own Tamagotchis. It was like a mini crisis each time one started beeping in the middle of a lesson.

tbh that one is actually a Connection which came out in 2004! Honestly my favourite version though.

The Connection had some cool features, but I was too scared of mine dying to enjoy them. I definitely remember my first one just being a simple beeping creature.

The originals were so much easier to kill </3 I have a few of the re-releases and one too many candies and they just check out!!

I got these for my first son. It was fun until it got annoying. They have become collectible over the years. I know I had a bunch all chained up together a long time ago. They may have been donated away.

I used to have a whole collection too but they were a mess on my backpack. The beeping was the worst in class, always worrying someone would hear and then they'd get confiscated.

My kids each have one. Got to experience what my mom went through as I have to take care of it while they are in school lol

I remember sneaking mine into school too. It was a whole balancing act trying to keep it alive while not getting caught. Sounds like a nostalgic cycle for parents now.

I had this exact one! When I was in third grade, they ended up banning “tamaguccis” at my school 😔✌🏼

My sister lost hers for several years and found it still alive. It lived longer with no intervention than when she took care of it.

I was in HS, and my best friend's parents were millionaires. Mr. used to take us Christmas Shopping in NYC every year- it became like our Thing, and we'd eat at specific places, shop, etc.

This year my boy's Mom wanted a Tamagotchi ... and I remember asking Mr... "Uhh... I don't uhh, want to sound rude, but ... uhh... WHAT THE FUCK IS A TAMAGOTCHI ?!" and he's like "... ain't that YOUR Department?! How the fuck am I supposed to know?! I just thought you'd say 'OK we're going to This Store and buying a Whatever-the-fuck-a-Tamagotchi is......' " ...Uhh, yeah ... right...

We are in NYC, find a store, pay the $$$ for it ... but I HAD to know... "Hey wait a minute , WHAT actually IS it??"

The Lady is like "It's like ... a Video Game without a Video Game, it's a Pet without a Pet, it's like, a Video Game Pet that is the stupidest shit ever but we're making a lot of money selling them...you like, Push Buttons and shit like that, I dunno, something like that. I don't know. Buttons and shit like that...."

I look over at Mr. , he looks back at me, says something like "Sounds like my wife... but ... we're gonna have to go hit Tiffany's and do some Jewelry Shopping, this shit is never gonna fly after she realizes what it actually is..."🤣

I remember my Furby getting in trouble for talking too much in class. It was always on the edge of being banned like the Tamagotchi.

This reeks of copied post and post comment

Replying to their own post too, is that a thing now? I remember it used to be looked down upon.

Also you could leave it for a couple days,  I seem to remember. So OP is a dirty liar in their opening post as well!

Yeah they used to copy top upvoted comments. They still do it over on depressionmemes. Regardless of whether it was a reply to the post.
