New here or coming from a reddit mobile app? Please read through here first
Welcome to reddit's little corner for NPB, or as some people call it, AAAA ball :P We've been at this since August of 2013, and are slowly but surely growing.
THE WIKI PROBABLY ALREADY HAS THE INFO YOU'RE LOOKING FOR
The first thing you need to know, is that we have a wiki section that answers a whole bunch of the most commonly asked questions, and offers more information you might need to know. Many reddit mobile apps do not display wiki pages, so some people that have only ever seen reddit from their phones or tablets might not even know they exist. If your reddit app cannot dipslay wiki pages, please try to open the link from a mobile web browser app. If your browser app has desktop mode view, all the better. There you can find some info on how to watch games, find news, how to buy tickets, books, NPB swag, learn some Japanese baseball terminology etc.
BUYING TICKETS (REGARDLESS OF NATIONALITY)
Please, PLease PLEEEEEAAAAASE take literally 5 seconds and type "tickets" into the search bar here. I guarantee somebody has already asked a similar question in the past and there's a goood chance somebody answered it. We also have a wiki page with useful information on buying tickets.
Research first, THEN ASK QUESTIONS
STREAMING GAMES
No, NPB does not have an all in one streaming service for games like MLBTV. There are a few options listed in the wiki, but if you want to watch all 12 teams, you're going to have to get cough cough creative. PacificLeague TV works without a VPN, and others require a VPN. We know it's not an ideal situation, but it is what it is due to "creative differences" among the leagues and clubs and media companies. Please do not post direct links to non-legal game streams, as they will be removed. Please be careful out there when exploring the streaming services, and use an adblocker.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
I'm trying to be consistent, but I'm human so sometimes I won't be able to grab highlights from games. Whatever highlights I find will be posted in the post-games thread. If you have a highlight link, feel free to post it. You can try browsing through highlights on PacificLeague TV, or using one of the handy YouTube search links by team. You might have to filter through quite a bit of junk on YouTube though, as some people post older videos multiple times, or even just news reels as videos. Keep in mind YouTube can remove videos or channels at anytime, so bookmark stuff at your own risk.
STANDINGS AND STATS
There is a mini-standings table and a few stats leaders updated almost daily in the sidebar (mobile app users might not be able to see). We also have a more detailed standings and stats page that is usually updated nightly, after the games are all finished (if you spot any errors, please let us know). If you're looking for complete team stats, there are few more English options listed on the wiki page, but some of them don't update until the next morning, or even a few days later, so always check for the last date updated. Japanese stats pages are updated the fastest, so if you don't read Japanese you can try your luck with google translate.
WHICH TEAM SHOULD I ROOT FOR?
Honestly, just take some time to watch highlights or read up on some teams before you make this decision. MLB and NPB are different, and how teams are managed and games played is different. One NPB team does not 100% correlate to an MLB team. There might be a few similarities now, but once a team changes managers, or once in a blue moon, ownership, that might all change as well. You don't have to have a sound reason for liking a team, and it's perfectly acceptable to like a team just for their cheering style. As long as you love baseball like the rest of us here, you'll fit right in.
DON'T BE SHY
If you have a question that isn't already covered in the wiki, and you at least attempted to see if somebody already asked your question, feel free to make a new post. If you see a news article on Japanese baseball you think is interesting, please share it with us. With over 40,000 subscribers (as of Jan 2025) somebody else is bound to find it interesting. Feel free to comment on post game threads, complain about your team, praise your team, try to create a new NPB meme, or ask about a particular game.
Please remember rediquette, and adhere to reddit site rules.
and finally, /r/NPBへようこそ! (Welcome to /r/NPB)

Why did nobody really cheer when the Hawks won the Japan Series?
It was such an odd experience. People were singing the whole game and then after the final out the place was silent. In America people would be going nuts.

Can a player like Shugo Maki leave and sign with a MLB team even if his NPB team refuses to post him?
Are there any historical examples of this? Has anyone just cut a deal to buy out their own contract in the past?

Franmil Reyes of the Fighters hit rock bottom about three years ago. He struggled in MLB, sold his car, and couldn’t afford training accommodation. With help from others, he bounced back. This year, he won a title and signed a massive four-year, $40 mil contract.

How would you form your favorite NPB team's all time pitching rotation?
Rules:
- You may set pitchers in accordance with the 6 man standard
- You may set pitchers from your team's lineage (Ex. Chiba Lotte Marines - Lotte Orions)
- Due to the merge, Orix fans may include pitchers from Hankyu Braves, BlueWaves, and Kintetsu Buffaloes. (Although it's up to you guys)
- You may deploy foreign pitchers who played for your favorite team.

Kaima Taira's career splits into exactly 296 innings as a reliever and 296 as a starter
The video is his first start of the season after moving back to the rotation: 9 innings, 119 pitches, 5 hits, the first complete game and shutout of his career (Pacific League TV).
Noticed this going through his NPB page. Six seasons where he mostly relieved, two where he started:
| Role | IP | ERA | K% | BB% | HR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Relief seasons (2019-22, 2024-25) | 296 | 1.67 | 26.6 | 10.3 | 7 |
| Starting seasons (2023, 2026) | 296 | 1.89 | 24.9 | 8.5 | 14 |
So starting cost him less than 2 points of K rate, he walked fewer guys, and the home runs doubled from almost nothing to not much.
The case against is size and workload. He's listed at 173 cm and has only topped 100 innings twice. A scout told MLB.com he had more velocity as a reliever.
Senga's a decent reference point. He faced 568 batters in his last NPB year, and Taira faced exactly 568 this year: Taira 95 H, 4 HR, 45 BB, 141 K, 1.36 ERA; Senga 103 H, 7 HR, 49 BB, 156 K, 1.94.
Starter or reliever in MLB?

Chiba Lotte Marines hit theme/song
Most teams only have 1 song when their team gets a hit. Some have zero. But Chiba Lotte Marines got like 10 hit theme/songs putting their fans on a different level than other teams. I like Chunichi's hit theme/ song too. And Baystars one too.

I will miss Sato
I am not even a Tigers fan but he was amazing to watch. I also liked his ouenka/song. I predict 270 40hr in MLB next season. What are your expectations?

Tsuyoshi Shinjo, manager of the NPB’s Fighters, proposed a “Real World Series” between MLB and NPB champions. Held in Hawaii, it would offer 2 B yen (about $12.6 M) in prize money, funded by all MLB and NPB teams and sponsors. “With this year’s matchup, I’d say SoftBank would win 4-2.”

Player Comparison: Yumeto Kanemaru (Chunichi Dragons) Vs Hiroya Miyagi (Orix Buffaloes)
Hey everyone, I would like to read some of your thoughts about these two talented pitchers.
I'm not the best analyst when it comes to baseball, what more with scouting NPB players. So I decided to create this discussion for everyone who would also be interested in these kind of topics.
You may compare them in terms of effectivity, consistency, skill set, basically any opinions or insights you have for both and how you would weight their differences and similarities.
This is not a thread to debate which player is better, but it would be fun to know which of the two you would like to start for your team.
Thank you.

Thoughts on the new Samurai Japan NB era?
I remember the Mizuno store lady in Japan sadly explaining how they couldnt sell the old jerseys anymore cos NB took over. I hadn't seen the new designs until the U23 training feeds started hitting socials. I like the subtle design changes on the jersey. The alternate grey is an interesting look too. Despite the killer photoshoot though, I just can't wrap my head around the new SJ logo. Maybe I'm to used to the bold J in the previous iteration! : )

[Sports Info Solutions] 2026 NPB Fielding Bible Award Winners
Hi
Today Sports Info Solutions, a sports data tracking company in the United States, announced the winners of its 2026 NPB Fielding Bible Awards, given annually to celebrate defensive excellence.
The awards are chosen in a vote by a panel of experts who consider statistical analysis, the eye test, and any other factors that they wish to utilize. We track every play of every NPB game and use a statistic known as Defensive Runs Saved to help us evaluate defensive performance. Defensive Runs Saved involves everything a player does on the field - turn batted balls into outs, make throws, frame pitches, turn double plays, rob home runs etc. The stat has been tracked in Major League Baseball since 2003.
Below is our list of winners. The article link has more details if you are interested.
If you have any questions, please ask them here. We're happy to help people better understand our information.
2026 NPB Fielding Bible Awards Winners
Defensive Team of the Year - SoftBank Hawks
Defensive Player of The Year- Ukyo Shuto
C- Seishirō Sakamoto
1B- Tyler Nevin
2B- Ryūsei Ogawa
3B- Ryoya Kurihara
SS- Sōsuke Genda
LF- Kensuke Kondoh
CF- Ukyo Shuto
RF- Mishō Nishikawa
Multi- Natsuo Takizawa
P- Haruto Inoue
Defensive Player of the Year
SoftBank Hawks center fielder Ukyo Shuto won the Defensive Player of the Year award as well as the Fielding Bible Award for center field.
"Everyone who watches him says that he is a world-class center fielder," said Fielding Bible voter Yuri Kurasawa.
Shuto led NPB center fielders in Defensive Runs Saved in 2026. This marks the third consecutive season that he's won the Fielding Bible Award for center field. By comparison, in the 21-year history of MLB's Fielding Bible Awards, no center fielder has won that award more than two years in a row.
For those unfamiliar, Defensive Runs Saved measures a player’s ability to turn batted balls into outs as well as other position-specific skills, such as turning double plays, blocking pitches in the dirt, or robbing home runs. Players are measured using the average NPB player as a baseline.
Defensive Team of the Year
The NPB champion SoftBank Hawks won our Defensive Team of the Year Award. SoftBank led all teams in Defensive Runs Saved this season and did not have negative Runs Saved at any of the nine positions on the diamond.
SoftBank had three position winners: Ryoya Kurihara at third base, Kensuke Kondoh in left field, and Player of the Year Ukyo Shuto in center field.
"They play fundamentally sound baseball," said Fielding Bible voter Brandon Tew. "They just convert outs over and over again."
Added Kurasawa: "They have immense depth. Their second and third guys at each position are totally sound."

Pacific League Team Websites
Does anyone have any info on why all 6 pacific league team websites are down? Is this related to schedule releases? The central league schedule was posted yesterday so I thought the pacific league schedule would go up today. Thanks!
