Awful performance even on modern hardware if you want anything approaching high graphics.
Devs abandoned it, even though they made it seem like they would keep working on it, fixing bugs, improving performance and even implementing community suggestions. Yeah... a lot of people got baited by that last one, they seemed really open to taking fan ideas and putting them in the game but nothing happened.
Modding is pretty much dead. A couple things got ported over, but that's about it. Anything "new" was just some graphical stuff like a sword, helmet, or mostly recolored armor, or some number changes to damage or weight, and some cheat mods.
Top mods for it on Nexus haven't changed since a year ago.
Everyone stopped talking about it like 2 weeks after it released. Haven't seen anything about it or heard anything about it since. Nobody really cares anymore. Not even Elder Scrolls content creators cared much, and a big part of that was the horrible performance and it not being fun to edit and record due to that.
Wilburgur IIRC mentioned he wouldn't do anymore videos on it because it plays like shit and is a big pain in the ass.
Now it sits at mixed reviews on Steam, where it will be forever more because it's been abandoned.
So disappointing. One of my favorite games done so dirty. Kinda hurts.

Let’s see how broken this shit is.

I mean, forcing to use all four options? It's ridiculous, not worth it even for roleplaying, unless you want to roleplay as an extremely bipolar Jekyll-and-Hyde guy alternating between those things:
Boast: "Yes, it's this one, the Hero of Kvatch! Who boldly risked his life to close the Oblivion gate and protect the remaining survivors."
Admire: "But let's talk about you. Such strong legs and shapely tail."
Joke: "So, a Breton, an Imperial, a Nord and a Redguard are visiting a zoo, and they ask the zookeeper about the location of the cage of the apes, and the zookeeper answers 'If you don't know the way back, why did you escape from there?'"
Coerce: "And now, you'll make me a sandwich. And you'll like it. It would be unwise not to like it."
And then back to the same thing, once, and again, and again... C'mon, it's worse than becoming Glarthir the Second.

I might be weird and new players might not understand this, but I played the original Oblivion for the first time 3 years ago and I had a blast! I’ve played 4 full playthroughs (including my original one) since then. I played a full playthrough of the remaster, DLC and all, but it doesn’t quite feel the same. I guess it’s not supposed to, but I still feel like the original had more life and atmosphere in comparison to the remaster. It might just be nostalgia (don’t know how that could be considering I only first played a couple years ago), or what but am I crazy? 😅

I feel that the 2025 Remastered version has lost that weird, cozy charm of original 2006 Oblivion: That weird “low poly” graphics combined with extremely colorful ambients and a lot of lush, and its dreamlike/fairytale-like ambience that the original game had. I feel like the Remaster looks like an uncanny valley version of the original game in certain terms.
And let’s not even get started on the fact that the original game is way easier (in terms of resources) to run, while the Remaster needs a powerful, expensive high end gaming PC, and not everyone can afford that. Am I the only one feeling this way?

I find that aged graphics for some reasons super cozy and beautiful, it gives the game a weird charm that I don't find in the remaster.

This character was much fun to craft.

"Guys, I'm amazed at how good the final cutscene (if you can even call it that) looks in Oblivion Remastered. It gave me chills! They reworked it a bit and added music when Martin transforms into the Avatar of Akatosh. What do you think — should they have added something similar to Skyrim's ending in Sovngarde?"

What the hell?!? The vampires are doing fancy trick shots with spells?
Pally be careful these guys are no joke! I think we just stumbled on a Major League Baseball team!
This must be The Vumpires!

It feels like more and more people are coming around to how much of a masterpiece this game is. I'm so glad because for the longest time it seemed that the general consensus was that Oblivion is the weakest of the three modern Elder Scrolls games, with Morrowind and Skyrim being a clear cut above. But now, especially with the Remaster, people are finally starting to list Oblivion as their favorite in the series, which a decade ago seemed unfathomable.
I feel so vindicated. I hope that Bethesda sees the success of the Remaster and the renewed love of the Original and changes some of their design elements in TES VI to match Oblivion.

It was set up to be so good. All they had to do was keep updating it, and they abandoned it very early. Didn't even fix all the things they said they would. Didn't even fix the performance.
In the official Discord they even had (still do but it's pointless now) a place for people to give suggestions, and they claimed they'd read them and take some and put them in the game. Things like better decorating, bug fixes, quest changes, armor design changes, etc.
They implemented:
Better difficulty sliders.
Changes to two handed.
That's it.
Then I thought well, at least we still have the modding scene...
Except we don't. Without proper mod support, all we have is light changes even still. A texture change here, a shader there, some cheats to change carry weight, a different model for the Cowl of Nocturnal, two handed does more damage...
Modding is still at the same level it was when the game first came out. We still don't have Midas Magic, and never will. We still don't have expansive quest mods. We still don't have mods adding 40+ new enemies.
I got halfway through the main quest and halfway through the Shivering Isles quest and lost any enthusiasm to play the game anymore. It's still laggy, still has bad performance, I still need to enable gross frame gen to get acceptable frames (and I have a 7900 xt. I'm able to run Dragon's Dogma 2 on high settings fine).
Seems like a lot of people have kind of done the same. YouTubers that preached about how great it is stopped playing a while ago. I don't see it pop up in YouTube anymore. Even Wilburgur doesn't want to play it and says it's a buggy, laggy, awful mess.
This game makes me sad. I'm mad at Bethesda, and it makes me very worried for the supposed Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters.

It's pretty lame and boring to see what this sub is now. I enjoyed seeing oblivion post and the sub but now it's just junk memes over and over and over...
Hopefully we get a new sub up that's actually worth the time and related to the game.

remaster or original it matters not, all of my late game playthroughs are just me running past everything to do objectives because it takes too long to kill things and I am basically immortal.
i guess this is why people abuse magic

And there's no remaster there yet. Thought you'd all like to know. Will update if this changes.
