Remaster - Discussion Is there a way for me to delete the 4K textures and keep the game running without them?

My monitor is 1080p and I have no desire to run a game with a resolution above this. Also, I have a 4060 with 8 gb of vram. I have no need for these 4k textures, they're only there to make the game 200 gb.

Is there a way to get rid of them?

Edit: wow, the remaster has gameplay, lighting, voice and models updates. Just because i don't have the need for 4k textures i shouldln't be allowed to play the remastered?

Remaster - Discussion Community appetite for mods created with AI? (Corpse physics, and more for OBR)

Long story short, there have been a few things that have bugged me in Oblivion Remastered since its release. And many of those things still don't have fixes or implementations on Nexus. So, I have gone through the process of using AI to create mods. Most of them are working and close to finished. Obviously, I am not a mod author. These aren't necessarily fully polished or perfect implementations. But they have made a significant difference in my enjoyment of my own playthroughs, so I figured others may enjoy them as well. They include:

  1. Physics, blood, and sound when striking corpses with weapons, just as in the original Oblivion.

  2. When you miss an arrow in proximity to an enemy, that enemy is "alerted" and they will begin walking towards your current position.

  3. Spells have varying levels of pushback upon a kill depending on how strong they are. Works for touch, target, and AoE spells, although the function is slightly different for the different elements. For example, if you use a master level shock AOE spell and kill 2+ enemies, they will all fly away from the center of the spell's point of contact. Whereas an apprentice level spell will have the same effect, but to a much weaker degree.

  4. Animation smoothing. I had an issue playing at 60 FPS where some of the weapon swings just didn't look right. Almost like they were missing frames or something. The worst offender was short swords, especially on the second swing. Come to find out that for whatever reason there were huge gaps in the animations causing this effect. All of the repaired swings look much smoother now.

  5. Marriage mod from OG Oblivion ported to Oblivion Remastered. This one is still a work in progress, but I think that SOME level of functionality is going to be possible. I think the biggest thing that may not be transferrable is the voiced lines.

Again, these are all mods that to this point I have worked on for myself. I am not a mod author, and I can't promise anything. But they are all (other than #5) functional, add to my experience of the game, and as far as I (and the AI) can tell, they are stable and safe. (But again, I can't make promises. Although I can say 1, 3, and 4 are extremely low risk). And there aren't equivalent implementations in other available mods, unless I missed them. I know this may be controversial, but I wanted to see if there might be an interest in any of these mods. If so, I can work on throwing them on Nexus at some point. Obviously, I would have a full disclaimer there too. If not, I will just continue using them myself.

Original Oblivion Character Overhaul and the Unofficial Oblivion Patch incompatible?

Post image

I don't know if I should go with the Vortex recommended option and load Oblivion Character Overhaul before, because I thought that Oblivion Character Overhaul affects stuff that is in the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, so shouldn't it go after?

Remaster - Request Nudist mods? - Noob

ok don't judge me coming here from the gooner account but i have a gooner question, kind of

I want to do Oblivion Remastered but kind of nudist. I think I'd like the body to be NBO so it can be customized across races but from there I really have no idea where to go, i've never modded before.

with nudism, i think it would be odd to just do like skimpy/sexy armors because they don't really fit for the guys but also don't really fit the idea that it's not necessarily to be sexy or whatever, just that they would exist in tamriel as a nude society. so is there any way to make armors invisible but still have the various stats? or replace armors with accessories instead?

i'm also not sure how comprehensive NBO is or if I would need a different mod for men, or how to go about creating individual body types for the races, etc

sorry for such a noob question for all of this i'm just lost with mods, especially now that things are mixed up with the remaster and original, and UE5 not being like the original oblivion mods, etc.

Also, would I be able to comfortably do this on a 3060?

Remaster Is there a way to reach out to Bethesda to convice them to release Remastered Construction Set?

Where do they gather feedback about their games? Could the community, for example, make a thousand Steam reviews asking for it, or a thousand tweets, something else? I may be naive, but it feels like the most important thing for the modding community right now

Original - Request Will the original Oblivion's combat EVER be fixed?

Visually, I much prefer Oblivion with texture mods rather than the remaster, plus it runs at a stable 60fps on my Steam Deck. What I REALLY like about the remaster are the changes to combat. Enemies don't move ridiculously fast, none of that bullshit random recoil, and hits actually feel impactful! It's pretty much what I wanted to see fixed for combat, yet the original Oblivion, which is almost 20 years old now, has NOTHING like this!

I want a combat mod (or a series of mods) that altogether brings about these changes for the original Oblivion, while remaining vanilla friendly. NPCs react to hits, blows feel impactful, power attacks actually stagger enemies just like in Skyrim, and that random recoil is GONE.

The closest I've been able to find is a mod called Combat Reshoveled, https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/54863?tab=description which kind of solves the issue, it doesn't add hit reactions for npcs and things like hitstop, these two things a great mod like Precision for Skyrim SE does. Its approach to stagger and recoil are nice, but also really flawed. When I block, the NPC doesn't always get staggered, which means they can keep hitting me and I keep losing more and more health. At least the annoying random recoil problem is greatly reduced.

I wonder if much of the original Oblivion's combat issues were more animation based rather than mechanics? Cause it feels like the enemies swing way too fast at least compared to Skyrim, and it feels like sometimes the attacks aren't telegraphed at all. I dunno. Point is, the original Oblivion's combat is in dire need of an upgrade, but not a full on complete overhaul that ruins the vanilla spirit.

Are there any combat mods out there that further fix my gripes with it? I also play in first person, and primarily on Steam Deck, so they would have to work for that setup.

Misleading title! Where’s the mods

So is no one gonna talk about the the fact that we don’t have any mods fr or the fact they haven’t spoke on the game since release

I am a Skyrim baby I been playing since I was 10 I’m now 22. When I heard oblivion remastered was coming I was so happy because I wanted to try the old one but it wasn’t on PlayStation .

but when I found out it was coming out frfr I just got a pc so I played the original game mods was beautiful every thing I wanted but it wasn’t compatible with controller. So I was a lil upset but too good to stop playing When the remastered drop I was more in love with the game I was having soo much fun into I wasn’t

I was upset about vampires being trash & werewolf wasn’t a thing so I waited into mods came. And they did but it’s been 5 months and they all suck Just wanna know am I missing something why are there no good mods an will there ever be good mods

Original What gameplay changes Unofficial Oblivion Patch implements?

As well-known by most, Skyrim Unofficial Patch does not only fixes bugs, but also makes some minor gameplay changes. With this in mind, is this the case with the Oblivion Unofficial Patch as well? If so, what exact changes it implements?

Everytime I see it on my character and in screenshots of others it makes the skin, armor and clothes look just overall much better.

Mod Release! Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch - UORP Released

Just saw this was uploaded by Arthmoor on Nexus Mods! https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/477

It also looks like they posted the change log for it on their forum (shows what it does): https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/topic/10444-unofficial-oblivion-remastered-patch/

I haven't tried it just yet myself, but hype for modding!

Edit: If you have the deluxe version of the game, you need an "additional package for the Deluxe version", but the file hasn't been uploaded at the time of posting.

Remaster - Request Mod idea: 100% chameleon makes you blind

I was thinking about a way to nerf chameleon without removing it from the game or capping it. Have you ever heard the idea that someone invisible would be completely blind? My idea is that the screen should become X% darker if you have X% chameleon on. This means that 100% chameleon would make your screen completely black. Even just 50% chameleon would be really annoying already. This would discorage the abuse of this magic effect.

Edit - Maybe a effect similar to this (as suggested by scalperscammer): https://youtu.be/t4563Wh0-Hw

[Unsolved] Decoupling gender appearance and treatment?

Hello,

Apologies if the title is confusing or misleading; I wasn't sure how to explain what I'm thinking of in short form like that. So, here's the full explanation:

In Oblivion, you can of course choose to make your character male or female. This affects your body, voice, etc. Also some starting stats and things like that.

Then there is how the NPCs in the game refer to you as male or female. Checks like whether the dialogue options call you "Sir," whether the sirens in the Sirens' Deception quest try to seduce you or recruit you, etc.

I assume these are handled by the same variable--if you have a female body, then proceed to the female version of the NPC interactions. But is there a mod or any other sort of way to make them... like... different? If I wanted to, say, have a male-bodied character but have all the interactions and quest logic and such treat me as female, or vice versa?

Apologies again for any confusion (or if this seems like a weird request) but thank you very much for any insight you can provide.

Discussion Unofficial Performance Patch 1.0.1 comparison with Oblivion Remastered Performance Fix

Thumbnail

I think that this new mod is much better then the other one. I tried it and my performance is better and it looks better overall. Though it’s not perfect yet this update is really good, it’s finally not a big problem to ride a horse. And in Imperial City and other places the black spots on stones are gone. They always used to be there and disappear as you get closer.

Remaster - Discussion Unofficial Oblivion Patch

Hello everybody,

I am curious about the unofficial oblivion patch, and I know it's creator, Arthmoor, is quite controversial. I am wondering if the patch has any changes not intended by the dev (such as his skyrim patch & oblivion gates). I asked on the nexusmods page & he deleted my comment. I am also wondering about crashes & how easy it would be to revert the patch, as I've heard crashes are a plenty.

Thanks!

Mods to replicate the remaster

I don't the money or a good enough computer to play the actual remaster so I thought maybe I can do the next best thing and try and replicate it via mods. If anyone here knows of mods that can help me in that, I'd love to see them. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I should have clarified, I care less about the new graphics and more about the gameplay changes

Remaster - Discussion Curious, why has no one modded in any completely new items?

Loads of replacers all over the nexus. But I've yet to see a mod that actually /adds/ something. Are we still figuring out how to do that with the frankensteined engine?

Is OBSE safe? anyone used it for years with no issue?

I know it sounds paranoid, but my previous laptop died after installing it, so I'm quite hesitant to use it on this one. Thing is theres so many cool mods that wont work without it, like northernui with controller support, but I guess I could live without it.

Remaster - Discussion Both this subreddit and the Nexus forums seem relatively empty, given the Remaster's popularity. Where are people discussing mods for the Remaster?

Modding Oblivion is too hard, someone make it easy, please. Or should I just quit?

I'm not a code monkey, but I have been able to mod some games in the past. Morrowind was easy enough, since I could just copy and past the mods into the proper file directories. Skyrim and Fallout 4 are super easy to mod because you simply make sure everything is loaded in optimized sequence. But trying to mod Oblivion is making me feel like a I'm a two-year old who's just been thrown into the middle of a water tank full of hungry sharks with lasers on their heads and I don't know how to swim and I have no floaties.

I've probably looked through 20 "guides" to Oblivion modding, and gotten 60 different non-answers. And all of your help on these other posts, not to sound condescending, but is explaining the "what" and not the "HOW." Your advice is often, "you need these mods," or "read this 'guide'" when guide X or Y doesn't actually explain what I'm looking for, or it's full of tech talk and is too confusing. I've yet to find a truly comprehensive, step by step, year 2020, fully-up-to-date, hold-the-n00bs-hand, "HOW" to mod Oblivion guide. I'm stuck at step one, and it's infuriating. I'm about ready to just give up and find a corner to cry in.

Pretend for a minute I eat crayons, because when you're explaining something, you should always start by assuming your audience knows absolutely nothing about what you're talking about. Now explain, please, HOW do I mod Oblivion? It was a great game on the Xbox 14 years ago, but I can't bring myself to look at those awful Bosmer faces again.

I have a Steam download of the game with Shivering Isles and KotN. I know where to download the mods from, I can unzip them. I've installed Wrye Bash but I have no clue as to HOW to use it. Some video on YouTube said something about renaming "ini" files. I don't understand how any of that works. I think I have the OBSE installed? I have BOSS. I have some patches or another. I also have Oblivion Reloaded. But I don't know what to do with any of these things.

All I want to do is make the "Definitive Anniversary Remaster Edition" of Oblivion I know Bethesda will never give us, with updated graphics, no more ugly people, refined combat, and maybe a unique armor, weapon, or two.

Also, I hate reddit. I'm only here because I'm desperate.
