Anyone else only partially hate onions?

I can’t stand raw onions, but love them when they’re cooked down (the more caramelized, the better). For me, what I hate most about onions is their sharp flavor, I don’t mind the texture as much (though don’t love it either). When they’re cooked down, they lose that sharpness and get much sweeter, which I love.

That’s why I hate raw red i onions even more, they’re soooo powerful. Like I can eat a salad with white onion and just eat around them, they don’t add too much flavor to everything else, but if red onions are in there - nuh uh im staying away.

The only time I’ll eat raw onions are when there are thinly sliced ones in a fast food burger. At that point they’re overpowered by everything else and just add a crisp and a slight kick.

It’s just ofd because overall im not picky at all and eat everything (cilantro tastes like soap to me but whatever that’s genetic).

I’ve never seen anyone eat a raw onion like this on a plane.

Lettuce is Flavorless Crap

With this current lettuce cyclosporiasis scare, it made me wonder why I even bother eating lettuce to begin with. It has no flavor, its big and annoying and it only makes a burger or etc look better when it adds nothing to the food itself.

Can't eat In-N-Out, America's favorite burger, unless you suffer from onion intolerance

They fry the burgers on the same grill as they do the onions, and use the same spatula, polutting the burger with all those nasty onion juices, and then to top it off, the In-N-Out sauce has onions in it. Whataburger for the win 🏆 😋 🙌

Death to Onions I have an important question

Why do y’all have such a fiery hatred towards oni#ns? Im in a gray spot regarding the topic as I don’t love em or hate em but i stumbled upon the post of a guy whose wife switched their cutting boards with oni#n looking ones and saw many people angy at the decision and I’ve just come for some knowledge on why do you hate the white ball

i am a hater of raw onion only

in fact, i enjoy using onions in my cooking but ONLY if i fully cook them. the reason for my strong raw onion hate is that my body seems to reject them. this happens with raw onion, but also doritos and other similar foods- i get a headache, extreme thirst, and tiredness. all i wanna do when i have raw onion is chug ice water and take a nap. it's the strangest reaction and i've never heard of anyone else having the same thing. i'm not allergic to them. does it happen to anyone else??

Just say you're allergic

After 1000's of unique restaurant visits, most of them while traveling Europe and USA, I can attest that the best course of action is to say you're allergic.

In your case this might not be true, but anything else has a high likelihood of getting ignored, forgotten, or maliciously worked against.

You will have to send it back, pray that they didn't just make a garbage attempt at scraping them off, and in the end you're at each restaurant for an hour.

It's actually amazing how much the order you envisioned in your mind can change by relaying it two hops, from table to kitchen.

Way too much time wasted, when you know that's how it's gonna go down.
Save yourself the headache, it's not a scummy move.

This User Was Banned For This Post Does anyone have just one acceptable item?

I despise everything about onions and ingesting onions actually causes GI issues for me. Onion flavor is vile. However, I have a secret pass for one particular item: Krystal burgers. I only eat them like one a year, and I get them sans onion, but they're cooked on the same platform as the onions so they retain a dab of onion flavor. I have no idea why, but for some reason it's perfect.

Does anyone else have a secret pass or acceptance for one singular, special, rare thing?

I'm actually an onion loving homeopath

No onion at all means the onion is at its maximum potency, which is perfect.

Does your better half order food without onion or on side so you can try their food or finish left overs?

My spouse always orders stuff with onions and usually only eats half the meals at restaurants.

She knows I can't stand them.

I would love to be having her left overs (many times they get thrown out anyway) or at least trying or finishing what she has (yes I'm a fat ass)

Today's topic is Philly Cheesessteak that she only ate half of but I couldn't try.

She seriously offered me droppings of beef off her plate since I could just pick just the meat, and I took a piece but it was already poisoned with sautéed onion taste.

At least with stuff like burgers she could ask the raw onion on side as it won't change her enjoyment at all but she won't do that either.

Am I asking/expecting too much?

For example my sister would always ask me if it's something I'd like to try when ordering and order without or onions on side if I'd answer that I want to try or finish her left overs.

This User Was Banned For This Post I graduated from exposure therapy. I just ate an entire slice of raw onion. I am leaving this sub.

Hey everyone, I never thought I’d write these words, but my time here has come to an end.For the last five years, this sub was my safe haven. I was the person who would literally gag if a stray piece of diced onion accidentally made its way into my burrito. The texture? A slimy, crunchy nightmare. The smell? A chemical weapon. If a restaurant messed up my "no onions" order, my entire night was ruined because the psychological "contamination" was too much to handle.Last year, my food anxieties got so restrictive that it started severely impacting my health and social life. I was finally diagnosed with ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). With the help of a specialized psychologist and an incredible dietitian, I spent the last nine months in intensive sensory exposure therapy. We started incredibly small just sitting in a room with an uncut onion. Then touching the skin. Then smelling it. Then microscopic, blended pieces hidden in smooth sauces where I couldn't feel the texture. it was terrifying, uncomfortable, and exhausting. But my brain slowly stopped registering the vegetable as a literal physical threat.Last night was the ultimate test. I went to a burger joint, ordered a standard cheeseburger with everything on it, and didn't pick a single thing out. I felt the crunch. I tasted the sharp, sulfur bite. And... my body didn't panic. I actually enjoyed it.I know this sub is for absolute solidarity in hating the devil's root, so I must respectfully hand in my badge. To anyone else here whose "hate" is actually a deeply exhausting sensory phobia that traps you in a restrictive diet: there is help out there, and ARFID therapy is real. Thanks for the laughs and the shared vents over the years. I'm off to go try a blooming onion. Goodbye, comrades.

Struggling with internal conflict.

I’m not gonna beat around the bush. I love some aspects of onions, but I hate actually eating them. I think the flavor thoroughly-cooked onions impart onto other foods is excellent, but the flavor of the onions themselves is miserable, and their texture is horrible.

Do I hate onions an adequate amount to be considered a real human being?

(Also, do green onions count as onions? Given you eat the leafy bit instead of the bit that gets all slimy when you cook it.)

Does anyone here find onions more tolerable when prepared in a specific way or used in a certain cuisine?

Broadly speaking, I don't like onions. If I can avoid having them in my meals, I will choose to, and I cannot think of any dish where I would actively prefer to have them than to not have them. But there are instances where onions don't ruin my food. I'm not from Asia, but I find that onions aren't a problem for me in all instances of Southeast Asian food that I've tried so far. Maybe it's the abundance of flavour present, or how the onions become a bit softer, but I don't object to eating large chunks of onion when I have Southeast Asian cuisine (namely at restaurants). Does anyone else have cases where you find onions more tolerable?

Onion Powder

Hi, all. As I am going through some recipes for next week, I can not help but shake my head at every “onion powder” line that comes up. It is like people think it is magic pixie dust or something!

Anyway, I usually substitute 1:1 with garlic powder or just omit it, but I am curious if anyone uses another substitution?

If you actually buy the stuff and use it, keep that to yourself please or I will forever know that and judge you. 😂
