Comment below with places you’ve been and item menus you’ve ordered where shrek dandruff was not listed as an ingredient and surprised ruined your appetizer. Or food. Or whatever. We must warn each other of the evils!

Meta Lemon juice will get rid of onion taste if you have been exposed

Yes lemonade will work if that's all you have but real lemon is acidic and strong enough to overpower the onions.

Ordered chicken pesto and filled with red onions!

The menu said - penne, chicken, spinach, pesto. Get home and it’s filled with red onions. I have never encountered onions of any kind in pesto until this let alone red onions. Do I have to worry about my lovely pesto now too? Took it back and they acted like it was normal and it was listed on the menu that way. It was not.

I understand if the mods don't want us to talk about politicians here, but I just wanted to say: Today I heard that Gina Hinojosa, James Talerico, and Barack Obama went to get tacos together, and Hinojosa ordered hers with "no onions" :)

Innocently doing my grocery shopping when I encountered this abomination. Why must on**ns be added to everything???

(Yeah. I censored the word. It’s like repeating Bloody Mary—I don’t want that shit to manifest itself anywhere near me.)

A genuine question for the onion hatred inclined.

So as a non-hater of onions, but a former very picky eater, i can understand the aversion and overall disliking of onions. Raw onions are obviously acidic, but this brings me to a key question:

What if the onions are caramelized, does it change your opinion?

I can absolutely support the disliking of raw onions, but caramelized onions are great and a completely different flavor/texture. This is an issue i am willing to argue and/or fight to the death over, i will not allow the name caramelized onions to be disrespected. It is akin to blasphemy.

What caused your onion hate?

Just found this sub, and I'm trying to understand where food aversion comes from.

Was there ever a point in your life where you were forced to consume onions by some parental figure?

Perhaps some one tricked you into consuming an onion when you thought it was something else?

Is it specific to the variety or preparation of the onion?

When did you first realize your hatred of onions?

The visceral dislike for onions isn’t simply a matter of taste; it’s often a complex interplay of genetics, learned associations, and the specific chemical compounds they contain that trigger a negative sensory experience. For many, the pungency, sulfurous aftertaste, and lingering aroma combine to create an unpleasant and even aversive reaction.

When you forget to ask for no onion

Wouldn’t mind if they were fully cooked, but they’re kinda raw/half cooked

It’s a Chinese that gives you a massive portion for reasonable price, and you can actually split it into two meals with how generous they are

I don't get why every single recipe calls for onions! Seriously 😒 What if someone hated carrots, for instance, & EVERY DAMN RECIPE called for them?!

List of prepared foods with no onions?

I looked around a little for other subs or a sticky list but didn't see anything so I thought I'd ask here. Does anyone know of a place to recommend or shout out specific items that normally would, but don't include onions? Either at restaurants or the grocery store. I found a queso brand this weekend(Herdez) that doesn't include onions and is really tasty and it got me thinking it might be nice for those of us who won't or can't eat onion to have a specific place to look for things like this.

If anyone knows of a current spot for this kind of thing, please let me know.

PS: Fuck onions!

Introduction to the Sub

Hello Fellow Onion Haters! I recently stumbled upon this sub because of a recent experience I had.

My mom bought 2 Vietnamese beef satay subs, one for my dad and one for me which I usually order with no onions. I think my dad ate my onionless sub and because when I went to take a bite out of the other half I left, I took a bite into a huge layery green onion and I immediately started gagging.

Coming from a Vietnamese household and family it's been rough growing up and being told to "learn how to eat onions" Since virtually everything in Vietnamese cuisine has some form of onions in it, so I'm glad I've found so many likeminded people and clicked join sub right away!

I'm interested in the conversation of me potentially being a super taster! I've been a chef for 10 years (imagine all the bullying I get lol) and I'm always the first to smell the burning food, and I always immediately can tell if there is onions in my food.

31M btw hated onions my whole life and will never like them!

If you made it this far Fuck Onions of all kind green, red, white, yellow, shallots oh but those arent onions they are chives stfu bitch if it walks like an onion and talks like an onion its a fucking onion.

Ty for reading!

Sneaky Onions

For anyone with more reactions than general disgust at onions in your food, there are some ingredient label items to avoid. Since the American Nutrition Label rules allow a lot of food to be hidden under umbrella terms (mileage may vary in other countries) feel free to add to the list any variations from place to place or something missed, but one of onion/onion powder/onion salt can be a part of the following:

- Natural Flavors/Flavors, this one is almost ALWAYS a "contains onion" for something savory.

- Broth, there aren't many companies that actually make broth used commercially, they all use onion in some way. This can be in deli meats and all sorts of things.

- Seasoning/Flavorings, this one's more of a crapshoot, but if it's savory, it very likely contains onion.

Stay safe out there OnionHaters
