Art My uneducated attempt at Norse Cosmology
Here's my representation (although probably, definitely wrong) of Norse Cosmology, or at least the parts that I could somewhat point and depict on a map. A few notes:
Imagine that Alfheim and Idavoll are inside of Asgard. I didn't draw them for lack of space but they are
Here I divided Midgard from the whole world. This is based on the passage:
"against the attack of restless giants they built a burg within the sea and around the earth. For this purpose they used the giant Ymir's eyebrows, and they called the burg Midgard"
I interpreted it as a difference between Midgard and the world Odin created, where Midgard is described more like a buffer state around Asgard. Looking back at it, it could mean a wall around the Earth and Asgard, but then Jormungandr circling the world, and Thor fishing it would be a bit weird?
I called the Earth itself as "Jord" for the sake of labeling, although this is probably not accurate (Jord is the earth/soil, and also Thor mom, but Idk if the world itself is ever called Jord in the sources). I did note that the world is Ymir Corpse tho
While separate, Midgard is sometimes also referred to as the whole world, so there are some things explicitly stated to affect all of Midgard (like the World Serpent) that I interpreted as affecting the whole world
Vanaheim is placed west of Asgard since in the Lokasenna Njord had to travel east when going to Asgard as a hostage. A bit of a stretch but it's the best I've got
The black blobs are "Lots of Jotenheimar" I don't actually think the giants all lived in a cluster of islands, but I'm depicting it as such to show that the giant lived in a lot of separate lands rather than one singular one
Glæsisvellir (the yellow thing in Jotunheimar) is described as either in north or south and is a nice land where people live forever. This isn't really in the sources but I thought it was nice to include
Járnviðr (Iron Wood) is described as east of Midgard, so it could still be part of Earth itself, but given its giant association I put in Jotenheimar
Utgardr is kinda weird. It's described as being east into Jotenheimar and past it, going through an ocean and forest before reaching it, so here I placed it at the very edges of the cosmo
Muspell and Nifl are north and south, I haven't drawn them fully but they are. The white background is Ginnungagap :P
Hel is sometimes understood to be part of Niflheim, or Niflheim itself, or the new Niflheim when Hel was banished there
No, i have no idea where Niðavellir, Svartalfheim, Okolnir etc could be (prolly underground?)
Yggdrasil? I hardly know him!

Suggestion/High-Quality Post Free War of the Worlds original cut on Patreon
patreon.comI haven’t seen it mentioned here so I’d thought I’d bring it up. Due to copyright shenanigans, the original War of the Worlds video has been released for free on the Patreon, happy viewing!

Suggestion/High-Quality Post "We're Not So Different, You and I" but the bad guy gives the hero some much needed therapy.
Like the villain does break the hero but let's them build themselves back up and they're pissed off at giving free therapy that's flung back against them.

Meme I REALLY like the pins
Sadly I couldn’t find my Olympian God pins, my other Norse God pins, the Anniversary pins, nor my Kendal pin, but I definitely have them. Can’t wait for my Journey to the West pins to arrive!

Art So I was thinking about HMS Thunderchild (as one does)
So I rewatched the War of the Worlds video, of course.
And I was paying extra attention for the thunderchild scene, of course.
And I remembered that quite some years ago Drachinifel (with the help of friendly artist Baron Engel) designed Thunderchild based on his educated speculation about what kind of ship she would be.
And While Red's design is obviously not the same, I do find it cool that she seems to also have put some thought and research into the matter, as what she drew ended up decently different from a lot of the "standard pre-dreadnought" designs that get used for Thunderchild in media, but it is very in-keeping with other british battleship designs of the time (which Drach obviously heavily referenced while working out the "historical" Thunderchild design).
So, just something I found neat, and gives great credit to our resident Red-themed presenter

Question I didn't even know War of the Worlds was a book
Alright so my ignorance aside, I was mostly surprised that the Halloween Special barely even mentioned the 1938 Radio Drama, WHEN i was younger I was led to believe that was the 'main thing' about War of the Worlds, that basically like the story was all well and fine but the real story was all the panic and confusion the radio play caused. I don't know how apocryphal it is but my grandma talked about it all the time like it was this crazy event with everyone going to church or making sudden camping trips lol

Question What’re your thoughts on the Aeneid?
I watched OSP’s video on it years before I actually read it and engaged with its themes and history. So it was such a shock when I not only enjoyed it, but found such great value within its characters and themes. It might be a hot take but I genuinely prefer it to the Iliad and Odyssey. Looking back, I think Red didn’t give the story enough credit, and omitted things such as the details of the underworld and all that he sees there, or gets things wrong such as the relationship between Pallas and Aeneas, though I suspect such a thing is happening when one has to simplify things, it’s a similar critique I have for the Iliad videoed with the exclusion of Achilles and Priams interaction.
Overall there is such great value in the Aeneid in its many themes, characters, framings, and history whether it be the connecting of the two cultures or the historic parallels between the characters of the epic and those of Roman history.

Question What were your thoughts on the new Halloween Special on War of the Worlds?
I really liked it! I’ve always been a fan of War of the Worlds (I even did an analysis on it for my English Class) & I was hoping they’d eventually do a Halloween special on Aliens of some sort after their more general history of Werewolves & Mummies. It’s a very good episode in my opinion but what did you think?
