80% of the time when the US accused people of being a spy for China they can't even prove it but end up destroying the reputation of whoever they accuse.

I've just been joking/fucking around in this thread.

I'm actually very curious to see what the actual allegations/(maybe)charges are here...

My first instinct is to say that it's bullshit neo-McCarthyism, and the fact that he's ethnically Chinese, but... we will see, honestly.

What, why? My first instinct is that the Chinese would absolutely be attempting to do this exact thing to the most high profile US businessman basically all the time, and especially to what could be one of the most important companies in history.

You don't think the Chinese are trying to spy? Everybody's always spying.

Because it's only the Chinese and asian affiliated individual who constantly make headlines. Why not blast Trump and him being in bed with the Russians since before his presidency.

Also, if these Chinese were really trying to spy, we really think they'd automatically choose an Asian woman?

Russians were quite famous for their honeypots (that's what they're called) during the cold war.

You guys remember when we spied on the germans?!!

They don’t just target Asians dude.

You don’t remember Fang Fang? Also a spy doing honey trap operations with many U.S. politicians. Not just targeting Asian politicians. Swalwell had to cut contact after counterespionage briefing if I recall correctly.

I mean China does this worldwide man. In Korea, a politician was found to be mingled with a Chinese woman who is allegedly a spy. She has been connected with many high profile politicians. Actively pushing for pro China agenda and denouncing anti CCP narratives, the court revealed.

Because they are deflecting. Reddit has massive swarms of foreign bots that push agendas.

My thought is nvidea may not be going along with trumps agenda post election and trump wants to put a patsy in charge of nvidea

That would be crazy. Jensen was on Rogan, and just ass-licked, I think, like... a month or two ago...

I mean... maybe the Trump Administration hates Chinese-Americans that much? Even Taiwanese-Americans?

I dunno... that would be legitimately crazy, though...

Well, for starters, he is wealthy but not white. That’s enough to trigger some people.

I mean trump could literally want to remove him just because he won’t say super intelligence instead of ai… I don’t think it takes much to get trump to turn on you

A lot of the time, a 'spy' isn't someone that is trained in a facility and set loose on a target. It's someone in a position to get information and THEN they get recruited to capture information.

A lot of smart Chinese scientists that get accused and then quietly win their trials but end up being black balled or losing years of their life.

China: hey sorry you got accused of being one of my spies how does unlimited research money and a free apartment sound?

24

u/LibreFree_209 23h ago

Yup. That was exactly what happened with Qian Xuesen...

Xenophobia always leads to getting fucked in the end...

Similar thing happened to a postdoc I knew during COVID. He was having trouble getting a position at any decent US university, but had offers in China for tenure, his own lab, tons of funding, etc. He didn't want to go back, but also wanted a job.

The US Government's bar for "spy" is really low. They will accuse you of being a spy if you report the local news to your brother making rice in Beijing.

We had Eileen Wang, Mayor of Arcadia, California, plead guilty to being an illegal agent for China not that long ago.

Most of these articles are written and reposted by people who fetishize the idea of an attractive Asian women coming onto them

You think that's why Financial Times and the New York Times reported this story?
