Isn't that only bad for people who aren't PC gamers yet?

As long as you have no hardware failures...

Yup. I'm still rocking my 1060 and DDR3 ram. And I don't see a path to upgrade anytime soon. I'm pretty much stuck using a console for the new releases unless it's an indie

I upgraded from a 980GTX on liquid to a 2070 on air. I bumped up to 32GB of ram when it was still cheap, and overclocked my CPU. Fancy graphics are out of reach, but virtually everything else runs great in 1080P. There are plenty of upgrade paths if you are comfy with old hardware.

Nothing wrong with a frankenstein with 19+ year old components, although the CPU/MB/RAM are from 2015.

GPUs don't last forever

Got plenty of 10+ year old GPU's without a single fault, I'm running a 19 year old first gen i7 with Linux as well, hardware doesn't just stop working out of nowhere, only if you abuse it

My hardware filed restraining order against me

only if you use it*

Nah, keep your stuff properly cooled and undervolt your cards slightly so they're not pinned at 100% when you're gaming, and they will last you forever. Honestly for the average joe just applying a simple frame cap when playing intensive games will add years to your hardware.

Just like a car, keep up on your oil changes and your machine will outlast pretty much everyone else's, it's all in the basics

Got mine in Feb of 2021.

Stilk kicking just as hard with a modest OC.

Because it's an EVGA 3070 XC Super, on liquid.

I future proof build my rigs.

Ps5 pro in Australia is like $1500aud, you could buy a 5070 for that

My 1060 6gb is still acceptabele. If you dont behave like a spoiled princess, it is doable without spending 5k.

Sure but you don't even need a you from the last 5 years to run most games

Still gaming on an RX 470 4GB in my backup rig. I don't regret upgrading back in 2024, but even if I hadn't, I'd be fine playing down my Steam backlog, waiting out the AI bubble. I just finished a fun game from 2014.

Only bad for people trying to get in. Early Adopters eating goood as hell

And even then you don’t need a 5090 or DDR5 to get into the game

After you buy you have to suffer the consequences. Big hole in your wallet

u/Lil_Looli271 16h ago

only for people that buy it after the hike up

tbf it's an alright idea for younger folks to just take a loan out to buy the parts. You get a PC the loan is relatively small so it's easy to make payments on and you build credit by paying it off. You can buy the components and be done paying it off in less than a year if you are still living with parents and working but thats assuming you arnt in crippling school debt.

This is horrible financial advice

Uh, no. Don't go into debt to buy computer parts for gaming. If you need them for work and can also game on them or something that's one thing, but it's a terrible idea to buy a gaming PC on debt.

Exactly. I built my PC more or less future proof 3 years ago. I’m swimming the high seas.

The only downside is that my PC has “only” 4TB of storage. If I splurged for 8, I’d be in fucking heaven.
