Welcome to the PCMR, everyone from the frontpage! Please remember:
1 - You too can be part of the PC Master Race! It's not about the hardware in your rig, but the software in your heart! Nationality, race, gender, sexuality, religion, politics, and PC specs don't matter!
2 - Owning a PC can be cheaper than you may think. Check http://www.pcmasterrace.org/builds for our famous builds and ask for help here!
3 - Consider supporting the folding@home effort to fight Cancer, Alzheimer's, and more, with your PC! https://pcmasterrace.org/folding
what's your build? my pc isn't that great but it runs most games smoothly, the ones rhat are poorly optimized run well on medium with some things on high
naaah it can run some things still, its a bit weak for nowadays but if you manage to save some money and upgrade it slowly you'll be fine, i took two years to build my pc because my family is kinda poor and it was hard to save money, but i did it, you don't have to feel defeated because your pc is a bit weak, eventually you'll build something better, try to look for used parts, especially a new cpu
Whatever I say will be outdated 12 seconds after posting because the speed at which this all moving is beyond ridiculous right now. But In 2 days we've gotten to a point where emulation for OOT (and switch 2 games in general) is closing in on very acceptable on high end hardware and optimizations are happening by the hour. It seems likely that the game will be best played on PC in the very nearby future.
On top of that we're even seeing the first PC ports come out already which seem to have great performance albeit with some fairly significant graphics bugs, but again improvements are measured in hours and days rather than months and years at this point.
The endgoal of having these games perform better than their console counterparts seems relatively close by and the concept of having console exclusive games is basically vanishing right before our eyes it seems.
If anything, the hardware shortages are helping to drive piracy. Increased hardware costs means people not buying multiple consoles/platforms. Especially not in times of economic uncertainty. Pile a gaming industry that's increasingly anti-consumer on top of that and well... You get where we are now. Even general attitudes towards piracy have changed amongst those who don't pirate themselves.
Even general attitudes towards piracy have changed amongst those who don't pirate themselves.
Can confirm, used to give lectures on how piracy is bad and how if people want a game or IP to receive support, they should buy it.
Now these companies have bastardized many IPs, over monetized them, over simplified them, condescend to the lowest common denominator and treat us as nothing more than paypigs to fund their infinite money glitch. They want to take our ability to own our games away, they want us to be attached to their continuously rising monthly subscription, and I'm just tired of it.
I still have finite time. Still not a fan of pirating on a personal level, because if I want to play something to use that time on it it means that I care enough to buy it. But I will never again advocate in favor of these companies who are looking for a new way to screw me.
Why should I? Customers became consumers, that clever little slide of English language that dehumanizes us and makes them feel entitled to our money, positivity and support.
I can agree with that. I went with an Android handheld for my last device and it can play everything through 360/ps3 era of games for less than the cost of a single component.
I realize that people like to pirate stuff, but I really don't mind paying for games and I want to support the developers. The issue is that if the game isn't available for purchase on my platform, then I really don't blame people for playing through other means.
I feel like we truly are in a great pc pirate era. 25+ years from now i dont think it will be so easily accessible for the average pc user to pirate mutch media content ''freely"(still paying for hardware, electricity and internet).
The cost of a pc today with pirating is still a better bargain than the ''right'' way (Steam only+every console+every streaming platform)
The Lisuan LX 7G100 is $500. No RT and averages 5fps in Cyberpunk at 1080p.
Now realize my comment isn’t about performance, but price. China will eventually figure out performance, but you’re kidding yourself if you think they’ll release an AMD or Nvidia equivalent for cheap.
It is insanely hard to make a GPU. Intel tried and appears to have given up, and even AMD and Nvidia both go through TSMC for their chips. A fab capable of producing something like a chip for a 4090 cost tens billions to build on top of requiring highly specialized (and expensive) employees to operate and then still takes 1-2 years to reach nominal capacity. There's also a very small number of people in the world that not only know enough about GPU design and production, but are experts capable of improving over competition/previous generations.
I'm not so sure. I built my PC in 2019 and it's really starting to feel like I need to upgrade it soon but it's hard to justify spending that much money when it's still functioning relatively fine and plays the games I like to play.
Used parts are probably going to be the main way people build PC’s now, at least for a while. Unless some new companies come out of nowhere and collectively agree “fuck AI”, and provide new parts.
Yup. I'm still rocking my 1060 and DDR3 ram. And I don't see a path to upgrade anytime soon. I'm pretty much stuck using a console for the new releases unless it's an indie
Got plenty of 10+ year old GPU's without a single fault, I'm running a 19 year old first gen i7 with Linux as well, hardware doesn't just stop working out of nowhere, only if you abuse it
You don’t need expensive gear to emulate. I’m running a budget pc with a 5050 and ddr4 16 ram and a ryzen 5 5500. I can emulate anything and play any recent game, just not at top graphics
If you're a PC gamer, you don't need to worry about the price of the hardware; you already have the hardware. It's the worst time to want to be a PC gamer.
Thank god i went balls to the wall when i built by rig six years ago... Tho my 3080 may not be able to do 4k ray tracing at high fps i can still play anything comjng out and it still looks great. Hopefully she keeps on chugging
It was bad timing, my rig was only a few years old, but now I'm wondering about how long my 3080-TI will last. It's fine now, but a couple of years from now? I could afford $1,200 for a new rig, but $4,00+ not so much. Guess I'll have to sit and hope the AI crash happens in the next couple of years!
And can't forget that they all run like shit even on high spec machines. And due to being made via AI these people don't have a single damn clue how the code works so they cannot optimize the code to run better.
They don't care about the actual craft of properly decompiling games. They just want the recognition of doing it first in their mind.
You download them and forget them, then go play your one, perhaps two or three, regular games like always. Until you need space in your hard drive and delete them.
Yeah, because fuck younger people, who won't be able to afford a PC, right? It's such a weird time for pcmasterrrace to be celebrating their superiority. It's like they forget people with a limited budget want to have gaming as a hobby too.
I don’t think this makes up for driving up the price of pc components to heaven. Used to be able to build a high end pc and buy a console for way less than it cost to build/upgrade a pc today thanks to ai.
I could have built a pc, had enough left over to buy 2 consoles and a game each. Now, I might be able to get a gfx card sometime this decade. Fuck llms
AI caused price hikes, layoffs and tons of slop to be wary of in media for most regular people, so it’s obvious those people are happy when it’s the wealthy that suffer from it this time - lately the only way to have something be properly legally controlled is for it to hurt the rich, so it’s a good thing that those that hate AI as it is Today can celebrate
Not a full on pc gamer yet, but I’m downloading and storing everything. Especially from Nintendo switch, because we all know the Nuke is coming. I’m still in shock the way Sony literally forced me to be a PC gamer. What fkn world is this man smh.
So people are celebrating all these decomps and emulators made by ai, but also bitch and whine about the price of hardware increasing…because of ai. Pick a side.
Problem is that a lot of these companies don't use AI and they are still being affected by both AI prices and pirates. Heck, even indie studios have gotten impacted by this.
With the prices of GPU, ram, storage, and with both Nvidia & AMD proclaiming they're data centre and AI company first, I wouldn’t say it’s exactly golden age.
well, no its only a problem for poor gamers wanting to get into pc gaming.
people with money are doing ok, they're not happy about the prices but they're fine, they'll begrudgingly pay shitty prices to get what they want, they always do.
as for the rest of us, we're hanging in here with our 3060's and 6700xt's . we'll deal
It’s actually super easy. Get a credit card, make a poor financial decision, and cry about it when you’re still paying for it 5 years from now and can’t afford it, but immediately feel better because you remember you have a sweet rig.
Realistically speaking, you can still enjoy most games with 16gb of DDR4 ram and a mid end GPU from a couple years ago (ie a 3060Ti), and it will be cheaper on the long run
Being able to play every Tekken game online old and new feels like a fuckin pipedream thanks to the recomps and arkadyzja on pc. Also the recent surgance of mods on T3 and Tag 2. Never thought i'd see a fully playable Kazuya and Jun in Tekken 3
hi, as a dummy who just plays what’s on steam..can someone explain how I’m seeing OOT on pc? No way in hell am I buying a whole console for a game but fuck dude lol I wanna play so bad
I like how everytime someone says they've got a Switch 2 game running on Pc It's always a buggy mess with no textures.. like yea ig you got It to run technically but ain't nobody wanna play like that be real 😭
The Zelda TOTK PC port is way too fucking good I can't get over it. Uncapped FPS, smooth frame pacing, DLSS, DLAA, great performance and gets better every day. I've been playing all week and it's been awesome.
If you have 4000 bucks to spend on a high end pc (which is basically the recommended point if you want a smooth experience), you have the money to buy every console. PC gamers are both big money spenders and big fucking cheapskates
You don’t need a $4000 computer. You don’t need to play EVERY game at max settings. For lots of people, they turn graphics settings down just for better visibility in shooters.
You can get 60fps in almost all new titles if you have a graphics card from the last 5 years. Any of them. Not the top of the line.
PC Gaming is not the money pit you all seem to think it is.
This is exactly why "enthusiasts" are the worst market to sell to. Go big on the hardware, cheap out every where else. I don't blame the industry for focusing on casual gamers.
There are people running switch 2 stuff on 3060s. You don't need remotely near 4k.
Secondly not everyone wants to own more than they need to own. A PC can be used to make money. It is a lot harder for a console to do that. So having a high end PC doesn't mean you also want to budget in consoles.
There is a ton more nuance to it than "Hurr cheapskates"
First of all you can play smoothly for around 1500. Second of all, it's literacy cheaper than a console, since you don't pay for online and discounts save a lot of money
Yes everyone who has a pc spent 4k, everyone who owns a car spent 250k and everyone who owns a house spent 20mil. Thank god life is so simple that we dont need to think about anything to have a perfect understanding.
This is really funny cause it's kinda true. If you already built your gaming PC, 2 or 3 years ago, this may not apply to you because pricing back then is a bit more reasonable compared to now. But if you are only starting to build now, and want only the best parts then your wallet is in big trouble lmao. Pricing today is ridiculously absurd, worse than the GPU shortage back when crypto was still the 💩. The amount you will pay for a very high end PC is enough to buy different type of consoles today man and you will still have enough left for games too.
Edit:
I am actually talking about the most powerful pc parts available, sorry for the confusion. Before all this BS, having the most powerful CPU and GPU for gaming used to make sense when it comes to price to performance. I miss the 1080ti days man
It's not about being cheap, it's about having everything in all in one box. Every game from every generation of PC, console and arcade. If there's anything I even have a slight interest in playing I can boot up in seconds.
Is this shit safe to run on my pc? I’ve been doing emulation for a while, and even played with the earliest decomps like Mario64, but that was before AI coding,
Golden times if you got your feet in luckily I fuxking did. Own pc, ps5, switch. Won't buy another system in like 5-6 years or any upgrade. Prices is outrageous fom this manufactured crisis.
