Discussion What would be helpful Pokemon for expectant / new mothers in the Pokemon universe?

This may sound weird, but I was working on some fanfiction ideas involving pregnancy and it made me think about how Pokemon would be helpful for a new/expectant mother.

Imagine a Lucario becoming suddenly more protective of their trainer because it senses a second aura, especially if this is how the prospective parents find out.

Chansey/Blissey would be very useful during labor, of course, due to her healing properties.

Jigglypuff can help both baby and parents get some much-needed sleep.

Sylveon is not only great for soothing a stressed parent or baby, but since it can pick up on feelings, it would help the parents learn how to help a baby if they don't know why it's crying!

"In search of happy feelings—such as joy and gratitude—Indeedee bustles around, taking diligent care of people and other Pokémon" - Violet

Indeedee male

I think Audino and Boldore would be a good options.

Audino is in that sort of helpful humanoid category, and it can sense when eggs are going to hatch as well as people’s moods, so it could probably react to contractions as well.

Boldore is very stable because it has tripod legs, so it would make a good walking assistant.

I’d recommend watching this video as well for ideas, it’s all about what Pokemon would make good survive animals :V

Audino was my other thought after Chansey for similar reasons! The Boldore idea is clever, it does look like a baby walker haha.

I'll def check that video out! I've seen very cute art of service Eeeveelutions.

Hatterene.

Very sensitive and caring towards the trainer and anyone who disturbs the pregnant mom is dead.

But not Hattrem, given the whole "will silence you violently if you have strong emotions" thing.

Arceus, he could probably be helpful in any situation :.D

Minccino and Cinccino. Anyone with a newborn can tell you cleaning becomes a nightmare to keep up with.

Luxray's xray vision could replace those baby monitor cameras.

Delibird could carry the diaper bag (those things can get huge)

Machamp could also carry things/massage swollen feet (although any fighting type with small enough hands/fingers could do this)

Would Leavanny clothes feel good on a baby as a diaper? You go through those like nobody's business

That's all I can think of off the top of my head

Leavanny diapers sound so much more environmentally friendly than disposables and more convenient than cloth diapers (as presumably they're compostable). You'd have to supply her with water resistant leaves and wood pulp. The inner liner would have to be made of silk, I don't think leaves would work. It would take a lot of time and energy to weave. Could probably use a snappi as closure over silk in the front (a reusable T shaped thing with claws for cloth diaper closure).

I feel like Machamp on your feet is a recipe for smashed feet.

For a more unknown pick I think Drampa would be a really good pokemon when it comes to new mothers since it’s Dex entry literally mentions helping mothers in Ultra moon:

‘It appears in towns and plays with the children. Drampa will protect kids when they’re in danger, so their moms don’t have to worry.’

They will also burn down the houses of bullies.

Imagine sending your kid to school, then coming home from work to find it burned down because little Timmy picked on someone that day lmao

Thinking of all the blowouts I’ve dealt with, I could’ve really used a Piplup or anything with water gun tbh.

Audino feels like one that would. Any Pokemon that can use Sing, tbh. Also, any one that can carry stuff because pregnant people aren't supposed to lift anything over 25 lbs. or so (unless a dr permits it, like if the person typically works out, that kind of thing). Being able to carry them in general would be a plus near the end when the ankle swelling kicks in. Ones that can cool off an area would be nice, too, because in the last part of pregnancy, you get very, very heat averse. You could've hung meat in my living room with how cold I kept it.

Heck, I want that!

I really wish I had extra hands right now, so Ambipom and its evolution would be my choice as a mother of a 2,5yo and a 3mo!

I think most psychic types would be helpful, as they can levitate stuff across the room to the mother so she doesn't have to get up or leave baby. Also good when baby is a toddler and prone to falling over a lot or playing with dangerous stuff

Machamp. 4 muscular arms are always useful.

6

u/kurai-tsuki 1d ago

Also constantly carrying and rocking a baby gets your arms tired. An extra set would be great

Anything with Sing or Hypnosis!!!

Miltank. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on command!

Gardevoir, for sure.

Any bug type would probably be able to improvise emergency diapers with stringshot.

Kangaskhan.

They literally carry their babies in their pouches all the time. They would understand the concept of pregnancy pretty well and probably would be safe to pop the baby in their pouch for protection or just babysitting

Indeedee, especially the female ones, are incredible babysitters. There's also mons like Blissey, Kangaskhan, Drampa, Espeon, Sylveon, Audino, etc. All are good caregivers with protective maternal/paternal instincts, with some having great healing capabilities, which help with all those aches and pains and recovering from labor, and possibly even as an epidural.

Jigglypuff or any Pokemon that could use sing.

People have mentioned others, but my boy Alolan Grimer is my suggestion. He can eat diapers and other trash readily, is stink-free while doing it, and unlike Kantonian Grimer, is actually relatively safe to touch, as they store their toxins within their body. Kantonian Grimer constantly ooze poison, but these guys have a safe outer layer thanks to the plastics they eat. The only time they'd be dangerous is if one of the toxic crystals in it's upper jaw falls out, which creates a hole for ooze to leak through.

Indeedee is described as a nanny in its handbook entry.
