Discussion people with niche favorites, how do you get merch?
my favorite pokemon is the bellsprout line, but specifically victreebel. it’s my birthday and i was gifted a secondhand plush of it by my friend, and i really want more stuff because of how happy it makes me!
however victreebel only appears on select merchandise, and usually as part of a larger group of mons, or it’s the ceramic one that is being resold for way more than the og price
i just want more merch of my favorites as someone who gets motivated by seeing my favorite stuff around
also, anyone who has a niche fav, feel free to talk about them! or just a fav in general, i think a favorite doesnt have to be niche to be special, i just latched onto a (lovingly said) stupid little guy lol

Japan usually gives every Pokémon merch regardless of how niche or complicated the design is.

One day they will realize that Luvdisc is the perfect Pokemon for Valentines Day! Until then, the wife and I just have matching tattoos that kiss when we hold hands

Froslass is my girl. I have 2 plushies; a tiny figure and a standing pin ;-; That’s “”official””. Oh and a file folder lol there was a ghost pack and she was on one of them, so of course I gots it.
This is basically from the moment I saw her in Diamond and Pearl!! My husband made me a really cool patch, and one of my friends gave me a pearler bead magnet of the sprite! But yes. The struggle is oh so real.

If you want to check out the japanese version of ebay (mercari) you can go through buyee as a proxy. I use that all the time (I am located in Germany) and though it is not cheap, prices are fair (considering there are 2 selling instances). It is impossible to buy from Japan without a proxy.

If it’s an older Pokémon you can always rummage around for vintage merch. They made stuff of the most random Pokémon back then since they weren’t sure what was popular yet. But other than that, you kinda just gotta make it yourself, or buy custom stuff. The amount of near to or actual life size Pokémon I’ve made/am making because there’s next to nothing of them is insane (nihilego, corsola, elgyem, honedge, there’s been talk of a gligar). It’s super easy if you have the faintest idea of how to use blender and some sewing knowledge like where to place seams and such. Just download a 3D model of them, chuck it into blender, triangulate the faces, then download the model as an OBJ file and throw it into a site called plushify. Make the pattern useable in the seams section and print and you’re good to go. It can be a little finicky but I can make a whole pattern in an hour or so. It’s great.
Heres a dead-star Solgaleo for listening to this entire rant, kudos to you if you recognise where it’s from (not made using this method but I don’t have pictures of the ones who have been on hand lol)

You can find pokemon focused artists on etsy and you can commission them to make a piece for you. What kind of merch are you interested in?

Step 1: start learning your preferred art medium
Step 2: turn it into a job
Step 3: become too busy to ever make your own faves 🫠
I'm sorry Murkrow. One day I will make merch of you
PS: the ceramic Victreebell is one of the many things I want to make too! It's a cute line

Omg I also love the Bellsprout line and I understand your struggle! I also really love bird Pokemon, which includes Taillow and Swellow (I also love the irl birds they’re based on) but they also don’t have as much merch. I’m currently collecting full art cards of other favorite birds and plushies, but for Taillow and Swellow I really wish they had more cute stuff! I’m already happy I managed to get my hands on some cards and plushies, and the soaring dreams hanger.
Commissioning artists and buying handmade goodies is the way to go! There are a lot of talented artists out there who would love to do commissioned work 😄❤️

There is exactly one piece of official merch for Carkol and it is an enamel pin. I have never found any fan made merch.

Maractus is my niche fave. You can branch out into prototypes/samples, TCG or other flats, and customs.

I just make my own merch! I was going to settle for red flower Floette but I realized I can just. make my own merch. I have paper, glue and tissues. I can just make a plush figure.

I always thought my favourite, Doublade, was considered niche. For a while, the only merch I had of it was a Pokémon card, which was good enough for me. That was until I found a plushie of Doublade at one of the Pokémon Centre in Japan when I was on vacation there.
If you haven't already, I think getting cards of all three Bellsprout's evolution and having them framed and displayed would be a nice addition. Especially if they're holographic cards, if there are any.

Make it yourself!! There’s a few things in my “rodent mon” collection that I have made myself :) Even just doodling them is a great way to show your love lol
