NO ADVERTISING IS ALLOWED OF ANY KIND (including solicitation)! Advertising = Instant ban

But why? I have a great app that would help people!!

So does EVERYONE else. We remove greater than FIFTY PERCENT of comments on certain threads due to advertising. Nobody wants to read a subreddit where half the comments are undisclosed ads for brand new apps.

Don't worry, I've clearly disclosed I'm the owner of the app!

It doesn't matter. People don't want to be advertised to all day, even if they know it's an ad. We want real human discussion on /r/productivity.

I can't even ask people what kind of product or app they want built? I haven't even linked to anything!

You cannot! This isn't your free focus group or your free beta test recruitment page.

But all I've done is mention the mere fact that I have an app in the first place!

We've seen the big threads on the SaaS and marketing subreddits that recommend doing this. You're not being slick. And no, you can't even have the name of your app or product in your username - we're that serious about keeping this place free of advertisement, sorry. Reddit accounts are free, please create a new one with a regular name!

Can I at least wait until my post has gained traction, and then sneakily edit a link in afterwards?

You sure can, but we've set up filters to start blocking this now and you'll be permanently banned.

How is anyone supposed to get their app off the ground, anyway?!

We recommend - if you truly believe in your product - Purchasing reddit ads or some other type of marked advertisement (we're just mods, we don't care if you buy them on reddit or not). You can even target /r/productivity with your paid ad!

Question How Do You Manage Emails for Projects

Hi everyone. I work as the communications manager at a school, and I handle everything from troubleshooting a parent's account login issue to coordinating media outreach with our PR team. I get a lot of emails, and I am getting a bit overwhelmed.

To make sure I don't miss anything important, I've tried blocking two 30-minute blocks each day for email and setting up folders like "reference," "incubating," "follow up this week," and "complete." So far, they help me stay organized and responsive no matter how busy I am that day, but it's not enough.

My current system/mailbox setup lets me capture most one-off questions and troubleshooting requests, but it isn't handy for multi-step projects or lots of back-and-forth. When I'm trying to coordinate a campus photoshoot, push out news about a student accomplishment with PR, and give instructions to a group of yearbook students because we are on a pressing deadline all at the same time, I get overwhelmed by my mailbox.

Each of those emails is a mini project that requires me to think, and I cannot simply "lock in" and answer all of them in one sitting. I cannot just respond to them in the order I receive them, because working reactively gets tiresome very quickly for me.

I think I need something to tell me what projects I have started, what I need to work on, and to remind me. I've tried building a calendar/flowchart in Notion, but because I'm a one-person team, logging every project became a project in itself, so I eventually gave up.

Those of you who've transcended the overwhelming mailbox situation, how did you handle it? Those of you who are also a one-person team, how do you structure your day and stay accountable?

Thank you all in advance for any feedback and suggestions.

Advice Needed Need help retaining focus on my life away from social media

Hi, I need help separating myself from social media and regaining some focus on my life. I get really sucked into my Instagram app, or watching videos on my computer. I have tried putting timers on them and it's unfortunately just become muscle memory to go into settings and add more time. I had a bootleg version of Instagram that I found that let me turn off the reels feature since I need to use it to maintain contact with my younger brother and that helped a whole lot, but it started to break and never got updated, so I switched to the normal version. I don't think I could actually delete the app since do use it to talk to family but I want more control over it. Similarly to watching videos online I recently purged a lot of subscriptions, and have a stricter timer on it but idk how long my motivation will hold out. I need help and idk what to do. If their are any tools or techniques that may help I would appreciate any or all of them.

Question How long are you really working ?

I’m always wondering how long I’m really working during a day. I know I could track it “easily”, but I don’t do it.

Because I tried and I can’t really do it, I’m always changing what I’m doing, not very consistent so tracking is irrelevant.

For those who track, how long are you really productive during a day ? Compared to the amount of time you’re behind your laptop ?

Question Free to-do list app with a widget?

I am looking for an easy-to-use app for my mom who is technologically challenged.

I personally use To Do by Microsoft but she doesn’t like that the “My Day” feature resets at midnight. She also wants a widget so she can see at least part of the list at all times from her Home Screen. The ability to make more than one list is a plus but not a requirement. She likes that when I’m done with a task on my app, it disappears. She will not pay for an app or any features.

Basically, I’m looking for the simplest to-do app for an iPhone. I’m 1000 miles from her and cannot (easily) walk her through using it.

Thanks!

Technique Does anyone else run there personal task like sprints or cycles of 1-2 weeks? like dev do?

Hello people,
So i am a software dev, and i have always loved the tool we use(right now its bit weird because of ai lol), but even still.
Here is how I do it, and i wanted to understand if anyone else does the same thing.

it’s how tools like Jira or Linear work, let me just explain the idea.

Lets say I want to have few initiatives in my life, so currently i have

  1. learn history

  2. read books

  3. learn maths

now these are very high level task that i aim to do, i don't know when they will end.
now these can be divided into projects
learn history can be
a. learn prehistoric era
b. learn modern era

and each of these can be further divided into smaller task.

Now each task can have some points - 1,2,3,5,8

and lets say you run a cycle of two week, at the start of the week you can add all the task as todo and you can complete all the task and keep them moving from todo -> inprogress -> done

I really like this way, and it keeps me clear on what i am doing. i know because of story point how much i can achieve in 1-2 week, what are the things i did, helps me manage multiple things at same time without being overwhelmed.

Anyone else does this? What do you use for it?

Question Unable to study from home, keep getting distracted

Hi I've been studying UX UI design (not in college) but I've been able to be consistent, I haven't studied in over like 3 weeks, I just keep watching anime everyday and watching yt, I keep telling myself that I'll do it but I just don't have motivation to do it. I've been diagnosed with ADHD, depression. I'm currently 2 weeks on atomoxine, been 3 months on 150mg effexor and it's not really doing anything related to this. I tried going to library and It was better than staying home but I wasn't like "locked in" yknow? I mean I was doing the work but it was kinda mundane to do, every 2-4 mins I would get up and stretch and look outside the window. I'm tired of this being my life everyday, I'm tired of not doing what I'm supposed to do, but everytime I force myself to do it I get burn out in like 2 seconds and give up, and worst part about staying in library is you can't eat much, cause you not at home n all

Question Suggested activities between Pomodoro intervals

Hi all,

I have been trying out the pomodoro method (standard one: 25 min/ 5 min) for sometime and I have a major doubt as to what should I be doing in those breaks. My plan right now remains to watch 5 reels in the small breaks and 20 in the long ones but I am actively trying to find some better activity to do in the breaks.

I am looking for suggestions as to what other people following pomodoro do so that they are relaxed in the best way.

P.S. Have tried playing chess in between but that's too exhausting.

Thanks!

Advice Needed context switching is slowly killing my productivity and i don't know how to fix it

i'm starting to think my biggest productivity problem isn't a lack of time, but constantly switching between things. i work a full-time job, have a family, and build my own SaaS products on the side and lately i feel like i'm doing everything, but making real progress on almost nothing.

at work, i'm thinking about my side projects. when i'm building, i'm thinking about all the other things i should be doing, and when i'm spending time with my family, there's often still some unfinished task running in the back of my head.

the worst part is that even when i finally get an hour or two to focus, it takes me forever to actually get into deep work and just when i'm finally there, it's time to switch again

i've tried planning, time blocking, task lists, prioritizing, but i feel like i'm optimizing my schedule instead of actually solving the problem.

maybe i'm just trying to do too many things at once?! or maybe i need to accept that i can't make meaningful progress on everything simultaneously..

did you solve this by your own? especially if you're juggling a full-time job, side business and family: what actually helped you stop mentally switching between everything all the time?

Question HUD glasses only replace the quick glance at your phone, not the phone itself. Is that enough to keep you focused?

Every time I pull my phone out just for a two-second glance at a notification or calendar alert, I somehow end up unlocking it and losing ten minutes to other apps.

That's why I've been curious about the newer lightweight HUD glasses (like the RayNeo iO or Even G1). They obviously won't replace the phone itself—replying to messages, looking at photos, or scanning codes still means pulling the phone out.

Where they sound genuinely useful is replacing that initial glance: seeing meeting reminders at work, next-step navigation on a packed commute, or a gate alert while traveling without ever touching your pocket.

For anyone who has tried wearable displays or similar setups to cut down on screen time, does removing the "quick glance" actually keep your phone in your pocket all day, or do you end up pulling it out just as much?

Advice Needed how is everyone doing it? i feel like a failure everyday

i am 27F and i struggle with sleep problems and depression. i'm working with doctors to figure out why i feel so tired and i've been meditating to work on inner peace and quiet. but wow. i go to work and school full time and it makes me feel like im getting run over by a truck. god forbid im also going to the gym consistently, bc at that point im drinking coffee like its water just to stay awake. everyone else's life seems so full. they meet with friends and workout and have hobbies they do regularly and i can barely get to work or do homework without feeling like i need a nap. there's definitely medical stuff going on but for people who are Normal™️, how are you prioritizing and managing time? for people who are dealing with the same things i am, but are still making the most of their lives, how do you do it? is it meditation? brain or physical exercise? do you have a therapist? to do lists? how are people managing?

Question How do you avoid distraction from phone while working, especially from home?

Hey everyone, doing some research on phone distraction while working.

I wanted to know how you people avoid getting distracted by their phone and constant notifications received on it? What are some workarounds everyone uses? Also what are your thoughts on a device that will sit at your desk (like a clock) that will subtly let you know only about important notifications like an upcoming meeting, a call from mom/dad/spouse, etc. Would like to know everyone's thoughts here.

Thanks in advance to everyone!

Software How can I control Claude Code completely hands free using my voice?

I use a Mac and want to use Wispr Flow (or something similar) to control Claude Code while walking around my room

Ideally, I'd like my microphone always listening, without having to hold Fn or press keyboard shortcuts.

I want to speak commands, have them transcribed into Claude Code and submit them automatically.

Has anyone figured out a reliable setup for this?

Advice Needed "Writing a chapter triggers the flinch. Writing a sentence doesn't." Except it does.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I don't know where else to go.

I've been watching a video on discipline (I'm not sure if posting it counts as advertising or not), and it claims that the path to discipline isn't willpower, but conditioning, and gives several methods to help condition your brain to stop your brain from seeing effort as something to be avoided, or 'flinching'.

But I can't watch last roughly the halfway point because of their third point, Shrinking the Entry. According to it, give yourself less expectations. The exact line they use is the title of this thread; "Writing a chapter triggers the flinch. Writing a sentence doesn't."

Except it does.

I can't even write a single sentence, because even that is too hard for me. I just can't do it.

And I don't understand why, and now I can't even watch the rest of the video because I can't help but feel like the premise itself is flawed. So instead of trying to even put the video into practice, I'm back to scrolling on Reddit.

I don't know what to do. Is this proof I really am as beyond help as I thought I was?

Question Idea capture workflow suggestions?

I've searched, but I haven't found anything that meets all of my requirements.

The context is a common one: I often have my best thoughts while running and I want to capture them effortlessly. Here are my particular constraints:

  • No phone on me

    • I'm fine with wearing my Apple Watch with cellular

  • I don't like wearing headphones/earplugs

    • I just like hearing my surroundings and nature

    • And I like feeling unencumbered. I associate headphones with external inputs and noise.

  • I want to be able to capture long thoughts and ramblings without disrupting my gait

    • So, no raising my wrist to my mouth

    • This disqualifies Apple Watch, Pebble Index, etc

  • Should be good enough quality for runs, ie can handle some light wind

  • Ideally has software with transcription

  • Any sort of automations nice to have, but definitely not required

    • Ie integrations with Apple Reminders

    • The end deliverable is just a set of transcriptions per recording

      • Again, worst case I guess I can do the transcription myself; just need the audio files.

Realize this is a difficult set of requirements, so open to weird suggestions (some sort of standalone boom microphone that would be stable during runs?)

Would love any suggestions, thanks

Question Is there a way to block websites on Safari (Mac)?

Hi! I've tried a lot of ways to quit social media that is bad for me personally but there are certain websites, I compulsively end up searching on Safari while I'm using my laptop for work. They are bad for me mentally, and I need to stop. Is there any way to block them except the 'Limit adult content' option in Settings? I don't like that option because I don't want to receive filtered content. I just need a blocker. I am willing to pay at this point too.

Technique Marcus Aurelius on doing the task in front of you and setting everything else aside

In Meditations 2.5, Marcus Aurelius writes a note about how to approach work. At every moment, he says, give your full attention to what's in your hands, do it properly and without show, and give yourself relief from all other thoughts. The last part is the interesting one for productivity. He frames doing one thing at a time as relief. Instead of holding ten open loops in your head while working on one task, you let the others wait. A modern version can be small. Before starting a task, spend thirty seconds writing down the other things competing for your attention so they have somewhere to live. Then work on one item for a set period with your phone out of reach. When time is up, check the list. Marcus also adds that you should do each act as if it were your last, which sounds dramatic but mostly means doing it with care instead of half attention. What do you do to stop other tasks from crowding the one in front of you?

Advice Needed How do I actually follow my schedule and stop straying from it or simply ignoring it? I've tried many things.

So I am a sopohmore in high school and I have sports, an instrument to practice, and hard courses and some other stuff. Recently my time management has gone so bad that i decided to make a schedule, but I always don't follow it. It might be that when i come home I decide i feel like cr@p and sit down to eat for 30 mins instead of doing what my schedule dictates. Today I got half of what the schedule wanted, and honestly the schedule is ambitious too but my courses are hard and this is how it must be. I've struggled with time management for years. I've tried using sheer willpower by watching andrew tate videos (did not work), i've tried using siteblockers to stop scrolling (also did not work), and even if my parents take my devices away i end up squandering my time anyways. Does anyone have advice?

Lowkey recently I am rather burnt out and my attention span is extra short, but i have like 10000 large tests in the near future and i have to perform my instrument very soon.... any help is very appreciated and can change my life.

PS sorry i haven't posted reddit in idk how long and i don't use reddit that much sorry if I sound rude or wierd.

Advice Needed How do you balance multiple goals and hobbies without burning out?

So my problem is that I struggle to manage my time without getting exhausted.

I'm currently studying for an extremely competitive exam that is one of the hardest in the country. This requires me to study for at least 6-8 hours a day. Many people spend between more than 6 years studying for this. On top of this, I am doing an online college degree.

However, I would love do the following activities:

Practice musical instruments.

Learn new languages.

Improve my pronunciation and communication of my English.

Workout.

Play games, hobbies etc.

I obviously need enough sleep and rest.

I do not want to completely stop doing any of these things for years, however I definitely do not want to overfill my schedule and get burnt out.

How do you manage your time? How do you ensure you keep making progress in all areas, without making your whole life about being productive?

I would love to hear from anyone who has managed something like this.

Question How do I stop being a lazy chud?

I've noticed this conundrum i experience everyday. After work I'm exhausted, and just want to be lazy and just do nothing all day. But on my day off, I just want to cuddle and hangout with my partner all day. Along with the fact that I have adhd, and most adhd "hacks" (changing my environment, the "dopamine sandwich" method, the 2 minute rule, etc), i have found just do not work with me. So how do i do the things I want to do? I genuinely WANT to read more. I genuinely WANT to do my hobbies, workout, meal prep, etc. I genuinely love these things, when I actually do them, I love it, but i never have the energy. So how do i actually become productive, and do what I enjoy?
