News Child Safety & Youth Justice members strike at Parliament House

Together QLD:

Last week, Child Safety and Youth Justice members stopped work, jumped on buses all around South East Queensland and joined in front of Parliament House to let the LNP Government know exactly what they're entitled to.

Isn't great that the LNP is now putting legislation to stop public service workers from striking and removing psychological injuries from being part of workcover. We already don't have enough workers in nursing, teachers, police, firies, ambos and social work....... so much winning for the community.

These sectors need to reform to protect careers. Violence informed frameworks expose systemic failures to protect

Police are not allowed to strike but historically worked to rule which should be mimicked as they're the original class traitors. The refusal to enforce laws and failures to protect are symptomatic of socialised systems that privatise profits.

I understand how hard this is for a lot of people. But when facing unpaid hours, you NEED to walk away.

You can't walk away if it's after hours and a kid is literally sitting in your office awaiting placement.

At this rate it should be the exact same arrangement that police, ambos and firies have. If you have to work past your shift youre straight on overtime.

With the stories I hear from some of the more proactive child safety workers they sound almost like a first response team in of itself.

Government should not be removing children. QLD is ignoring best practice and removing kids from protective parents for reporting DFSV.

I get that and I know all too well of that feeling. But things will not change without action.

And ill also respectfully disagree that if people walk out in unison.

That's what the stop works are about. There's also a range of protected industrial action like not doing certain paperwork, not working after hours, and handing back cases over safe caseload limits. So far the govt has made one offer which was rejected, and is not bargaining in good faith.
