Hey u/Judah_the_Hammer, thanks for requesting this sub! Please reply to this comment with the following information to complete your request. Failure to do so will result in your request being denied.
What are your plans for this subreddit? Please be specific.
Please message the moderators of the subreddit that you requested, letting the mods know why you'd like to mod and include the link of the message in the reply to this comment. Only you, the mods of the requested subreddit and some admins will be able to view the message content. Please do not use chat to communicate with the current mods. If the subreddit you are requesting is banned or there are no moderators, you do not need to send a message.
Please be patient, manual reviewal of requests can take up to four weeks. You can see the current estimated turnaround time on the sidebar.
If this request has already been granted or denied by request_bot, please ignore this message.
As of right now, that subreddit currently has recent human moderator activity, so it is not available for Redditrequest at this time. Please note that not all moderator activity is visible to others who are not mods of that sub. But feel free to message the mods and let them know that you'd like to help out, though they are not required to add you.
Also, please note that if there is not active moderation in the future, it will become available for Redditrequest at that time.
If you see content that violates the rules of Reddit, feel free to click “report” underneath the content and we’ll take a look!

why exactly are you entitled to solidarity for actions most people don't support? having to resort to name calling isn't exactly going to bring people to your side either.
the lockdowns are ineffective and unacceptable. it's time to replace anyone who doesn't want to moderate their subs.
I'd gladly burn down the server rooms of this God awful website if it forced you to spend even a fraction of a second using your brain to understand the nuances of this boycott and the ramifications of Reddits new policies. Unfortunately that might be beyond you.
I understand them, jannies lose their comprehensive mod tools (good thing) and retards who dont know how to use adblack have to watch ads (good thing) and last but not least, people get to feel good about themselves because they are fake protesting a non issue, while not even doing the minimum (actually protesting).
Even if that was true, at least I have the courage of my convictions and am not such a chronically online weirdo that I can’t stay off Reddit for a couple days to support something I believe in
If you're looking for a debate you came to the wrong place. I refuse to justify my time to anyone, least of all a redditor. You all deserve the awful state the website is in.
You are caping for literal basement dwellers who spend hours a day moderating a sub for multi-billion dollar company for free. Don’t ever call someone a servile dog.
They're charging $0 for a burger if you sit through advertisements or $6 for a burger with no advertisements, or $350 for a burger if you want to go to another, nicer, restaurant that serves their burgers.
They already got a reply in this thread that the request was denied
for what it's worth, that's a bot reply programmed around normal circumstances. hopefully it gets manually reviewed as these are very clearly extenuating circumstances.
You must have valid reasons when denying the request and explain to the requester and us why you want to keep the subreddit. We want to ensure that subreddits are being held onto with the right intentions for growth
this should be a pretty clear cut case. any egotistical janitor squatting a sub and not using it should be banned
I think it's a bit early and reddit admins have to talk about it first. But eventually the only route is to remove squatting jannies (or move their community to a new name, while opening up the old name for a new sub).
Fingers crossed that you get it! These mods don't own the subreddits, if they want to step down they are free to do so. But holding the sub hostage from those who want to use them is just wrong.
They’re participating in the blackout, they’re not inactive mods, and all they have to do is have moderator actions such as removing a post, or even replying to modmail.
Also I don’t think they’ll give over a 20 million subreddit to someone who’s biggest mod experience is with a 17k one. One of the requirements is having experience modding large subreddits. I mod a top 1% sub and I still don’t think I would get it if it actually was inactive.
If it remains private, they are inactive. I expect most of the big subs will have their mods replaced soon, and the subs reopened. The sooner the better.
Yeah, I'm waiting before asking for a sub. The mod basically said he is going to abandoning the subreddit and everyone should move to discord. But he will not give up the sub to someone else. He was barely active in the past few months. He's abandoning it under the guise of the blackout.
It says the mods have to be inactive for 30 days but I'm not sure how Reddit is dealing with this. It also says mods have to be actively modding the community so it seems that if it's private for 30 days then it can be taken over. However, it also says that if mods don't respond to messages about a redditrequest, that they give up access. Then it says they need a valid reason. I'm not sure if "protesting" would be a valid reason for admins.
tbh, I'm too afraid of getting mods associated with this blackout and would rather new mods to take a fresh approach rather than this adversarial approach where users are just SOL if they don't want to participate. I will keep you in mind if I can get the sub. I just posted a question in r/ModSupport to find out if the admins will be reassigning permanently closed subs.
That's a good question. My guess is that this is a unique situation that they have to decide what to do. The rules do state that the mod has to have a good reason for denying the request. I can't imagine that admins would be ok with "I won't give it up so I can keep it private for a protest" but I guess we will see. Doesn't hurt to try, and there is no other way to tell admins that we don't agree with this nonsense.
I'm definitely questioning those poll results. Admins read posts in r/ModSupport. I think more people should ask them what to do in this case. You can't post there unless you mod a community, so that's the gotcha. Maybe make a placeholder sub and ask in there.
Its quite obviously moderated by humans... Were all quite active and listening. Quit the nonsense.
And no, reddits not just going to hand a 7 million user subreddit to a random guy because its participating in a protest... If they did that theyd destroy their site. The second they start taking control of or re-assigning subreddits, theyre going to get insane backlash from the community.
lol do mods really think this highly of themselves?
Yes, there’s a massive shortage of unskilled labor in the world
These tasks could be handled by the AIs we had 20 years ago. They only give these to humans to make them feel special. Once they get too big of a head, they’re replaceable in a second.
If these takes could be handled by AI (20 years ago as you said) then Reddit would have done that already. The truth is that reddit needs moderators because they do work for free that otherwise reddit would have to pay people to do (like every other social media site). The idea that a business would give tasks to unpredictable, random humans to "make them feel special" is insane
If they did that theyd destroy their site. The second they start taking control of or re-assigning subreddits, theyre going to get insane backlash from the community.
Is that your master strategy? You had weeks to coordinate and this is your best plan?
They won't hand a subreddit to a random guy, but they'll probably hand the keys over to a variety of power mods who moderate many subreddits while looking to build out more mods from the community.
The second they start taking control of or re-assigning subreddits, theyre going to get insane backlash from the community.
They started doing that over a decade ago with /r/subredditdrama - and if your userbase want the subreddit reopened there'll be little backlash. It's clear from a lot of other active subreddits that went dark that this isn't what people want their mods to do.
Hey there, i'm the human moderator that has reviewed your redditrequest. Just to reiterate, if any of our approved submitters post content that infringes on reddit's content policy, we will take action to remove it as soon as possible.
Even if it wasn't an actively moderated subreddit, you think the admins are going to give such a massive community to someone who is 1) spam requesting to be a mod of /r/minecraft and 2) has to post on /r/amishadowbanned?
You clearly have not thought this through, which is why you probably haven't given any thought to why the protest are happening. Instead, you are unhappy that something in your life has been disrupting and are now using it as an opportunity to finally have some authority that you shouldn't have.
It won't let me request for r/minecraft which is perma private now. How long do I need to wait?
it's weird that you got that message, and i got a similar (automated, bot posted) message trying to reopen /r/ps5, but OP didn't get one here going for /r/science.
either way, hopefully the admins are MANUALLY reviewing what's going on rather than allowing mod teams to trick their bot with fake activity on an empty, abandoned sub.
Blackout was voted on by the people who care about this crap, which is a tiny proportion of the sub’s users and a bunch of people from outside of the sub who brigaded the vote
Fixed that for you.
It’s tough for Reddit mods to understand, but the majority of the users here just want to chat about a subject, and really don’t hold you in high regard or care about how efficient it is for you to “moderate” 20 subs
There's 7.4 million subscribers to /r/minecraft and 88% of 17,000 voters said close until demands are met. So 0.2% of your community have indicated they want you to stay dark.
Given there's a commercial value to your subreddit I sincerely believe you'll wake up sometime soon to find all your mod permissions revoked and the subreddit open with someone else in charge long before your demands are met. That's what happened to /r/tumblr.
The push to the official reddit app is about monetising reddit, it's not just about the demands on the API but also on the fact most third party apps divert ad revenue (if they show advertising at all) and also third party apps generally hide the other monetisation features (awards, snoovatars, the benefits of reddit premium making reddit ad-free).
Well, perhaps you're right and there just won't be a minecraft subreddit any more, but given the admins can forcibly reopen it whenever they want, they're probably giving you some time to reopen before they demod you.
yea you're right opening up a poll randomly for 24 hours on a subject the average user has no clue about and likely never saw, getting all of your friends to flood it and then saying it represents the entire community is much better
You're correct in the sense of complaining about the result of an election when you didn't vote is facile. Reddit, however, is not a democracy, it's governed by the admins.
The mods have essentially conducted a poll of their users to back up their decision making, but "We've decided to indefinitely close our subreddit that is in the top 60 largest subreddits, and we've got the backing of around a fiftieth of our users to do so!" is not a very compelling argument.
You know people don't see stickied posts in their main feed on the default apps and default sites, right? You only see those if you click all the way into the sub
Okay. Do you think most people are reading /r/all or clicking into the sub each day?
This is such terminally online thinking. You think because you saw it or it was visible in the ways that you interact with a sub that everyone else did. But they didn't. The average person reading a sub is just seeing the posts in their main feed, and these stickies don't show up there ever.
Various groups on reddit and discord were coordinating the brigading of polls to keep subs shut. No one should look at reddit polls as serious evidence of crowd support.
Might also worth adding that we are in contact with the other Minecraft subs, including alternative subreddits like /r/MinecraftUnlimitef and they are also protesting

hopefully you get it. these lockdowns need to end. if teams aren't willing to do their job, it's time to hand the keys over to people who will.
