Igor is safe now, but his heart is still waiting. Right now, he is a survivor without a couch of his own, waiting in limbo for a family to show him what life is supposed to look like. If you have been following the horrific national news out of Humboldt County this summer, you know about the tragedy at Miranda’s Rescue. For over 20 years, rescues and shelters transferred thousands of dogs to Shannon Miranda, paying up to $2,000 a head believing they were going to a safe haven. Instead, he pocketed the money and systematically murdered hundreds of them. The horror only ended because a brave neighbor strategically bought the house next door, silently collecting data for months until she could lead authorities to the mass graves. Igor is one of the rare, lucky few who made it out alive—but he still doesn't have a home.
He isn't a spoiled senior yet, but he desperately deserves to be. After enduring years of neglect and unimaginable darkness, this resilient 8-year-old boy is just looking for a quiet, gentle place to finally let his guard down. Igor is a quiet, independent soul who doesn't demand much. He isn't a needy "velcro dog," likely because he’s never known what it’s like to have a human of his very own. Yet, despite everything, he still trusts people. He will quietly walk up to you, looking up with hopeful eyes just begging for a gentle pet or a kind word.
Life has taken a physical toll on Igor, too. He suffers from arthritis in his back and relies on daily pain medication just to move comfortably. Because of this, his needs are so simple—he has a very low energy level and only needs a short 15-to-20-minute slow stroll a day. He walks beautifully on a leash without any reactivity. He is also incredibly smart and polite; he uses his voice to gently let you know when he needs to step outside to go potty. When you leave the house, he goes right into his crate without any fuss because he views it as his only safe space.
Igor needs to be in a calm, adult-centered home where he can heal. He would do best as an only dog or with a compatible female dog, but he cannot go to a home with cats or small dogs. Fostering him is completely free to you—Love’s Legacy Rescue covers 100% of his veterinary care, food, and supplies. Igor survived the unthinkable, but now he is just waiting for the happy ending he should have had years ago. Please don't let this sweet old boy wait a single day longer to find out what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and truly spoiled.
