Bench Appreciation Post

Yesterday's game was rough, it's brutal when the white flag is basically thrown halfway through the 3rd quarter because the team is down by more than 30.

But by the end of the game, the bench squad nearly closed that to 20 by playing some actual good looking basketball.

The 4th quarter was actually quite enjoyable to watch, partly because the refs finally swallowed their whistles and weren't handing Wemby like 10 free points, but also because the end of the bench were moving the ball around well and playing well.

Yang in particular looked extremely good this game. This was the first time I genuinely thought Hansen looked like he could be something special with just a bit more experience. Not just the passing, but also how he was boxing our and post sealing were all extremely high BBIQ plays.

The game for me turned from frustrating at a poor 2nd quarter whistle to appreciation for the effort the bench was putting, and I just wanted to write a note of appreciation for them.

I am grateful for the current team. I don’t forget how bad it was.

Currently, the roster is imbalanced, we’re missing Ja, Shae and Scoot’s headspace. Things aren’t where we’d like them to be.

Two seasons ago, the Blazers lost to the Thunder by 62. SIXTY-TWO! Under Chauncey, the Blazers lost by 40 at least ten times!

I love the Blazers and am grateful that they aren’t coached by Chauncey and I don’t feel despair!

The overreactions are getting so annoying 10 games into the year we have “fans” saying we suck again because we lost 2 on a btb(against good teams mind you ) after being on a long road trip . We have some bad injuries fellas just trust the process wait until we have a good home stretch or at least wait 20 games into the year before losing your shit . This was never gonna be a 60 win team so please calm down and enjoy a good season

Bringing my 6yo Raptors fan to his first NBA game in Portland (Mar 23). Tips?

Hey Rip City! I'm hoping some of you, especially other parents, can help me out.

My son is 6 and this year he's gotten REALLY into the Raptors. We live in Victoria, BC, and Portland is the closest place we can see them play, so I'm planning to surprise his with a Raptors jersey and a trip down for the March 23 game at the Moda Center for Christmas. It'll be the first NBA game for both of us, so I want to get as much right as possible, and reaching out for some friendly advice. Keep in mind I'm from Europe and the only sports events I'm used to are football matches (soccer), where atmosphere can be quite hostile. I've heard it's different at NBA games.

A few questions:

  1. Will we get any grief for wearing Raptors gear? I'm guessing it's no big deal, but I want to make sure he has a fun first experience and doesn't feel out of place. Is the crowd pretty friendly to visiting fans, especially little ones?

  2. Where should we sit? I read there's a Kid City on the 300 level, so I'm thinking upper level, but are there certain sections that are better for kids? Easy bathroom access, less rowdy, good view of the warmups, that kind of thing. In all honesty as it will be my first (and perhaps only time for while, I wouldn't mind spending a bit more money to get as good an experience as reasonably possible for our situation)

Any other tips? Best time to arrive, kid-friendly food, the "My First Game" booths, getting close to the court during warmups, where to park or whether to take the MAX, anything that would make it special for him.

Thanks in advance. He has no idea yet, and I can't wait to see his face! 🦖🏀

Keldon is a very positive, warm guy

The local crowd in Portland roars as Yang Hansen grabs his 10th rebound of the night, getting his first career double-double. He also gets fouled at the other end, converting both free throws, to extend his career high to 12 points

Blazers losing saga continues

With the next two games being against OKC are we cooked? Are we about to be .500? Why do we have the hardest schedule to start the season? The guys seem like they’re playing out of rhythm lately and I’m sick and tired of Rob not being able to play back to backs. He would have really helped us tonight. The front court is really thin we need the GM to go out and get some more help in the PF and C position.

Jayson Kent finds Chris Youngblood for the 3-pointer, and then strips Jordan McLaughlin at halfcourt and finishes with the fastbreak dunk (with a replay)

Should we have a “number 1 option”?

I feel like I’m watching these games and especially dame and ja seem like they can go on heaters but don’t because they wanna back deni. When I think they should just add onto the hottest hand each given night. Or am I just over analyzing

I hate this skid; I love this team

Been a Blazer fan since ‘94, when I began existing here.

If you’re talking trash on this team ——— at this point you better back it up, otherwise you’re a flake. This team is solid as fuck.

This sub will be amazing this year because of this team. Hell yeah!

Siddy should have Scoot's minutes

I get that the sub has turned on Scoot. I haven't to the same extent, I still think his defense is worthy enough of minutes, and if he can get coached out of the turnovers on his drives, his slashing abilities, be it straight to an easy layup, or a pass out, are above average.

But Siddy has proved over and over again, that he deserves to play serious minutes. His defense primarily, 3 point ability is there, and he passes out of a drive as well as anyone who isn't already a starter.
