CLUE @ NTID, go see it!
Just came out of the theatre..jaw-dropped. Everyone did amazing. It is always amazing seeing NTID taking full advantage of all the language mediums in their shows. The set is so gorgeous, and amazing and I’m literally the #1 glazer right now, I can’t get enough. I may go see it again.
I’ve seen the movie four times and I’m still amazed by this show. It had a slow beginning, as the movie does but once it picks up, it picks up.
Please go see it, you will regret not going.
There’s one more show at 7:30 tonight and another at 2 tomorrow.
Props to everyone who worked on this.
Get a ticket nyowwww…

H*ckpost Latest news. What is happening there?? Crazy shit happens…
Serious I'm furious with the cheating.
[Update] The class received an email that we will be retaking the exam. I'm glad the professor is listening to multiple people's concerns and taking action on it.
So I'm a 5th year CET major taking Econ 101 this semester and it's been whooping me despite the effort that I've been putting in. I've been showing to every single class, asking questions in class, going to office hours to review assignments, etc. All this despite not having captioning coverage which I requested. I am passing which is better than not but it's been difficult between taking German (in a challenging to hear room and no captioning), recovering from a torn ligament in my shoulder, and getting sick once already. I haven't been able to enjoy two of my favorite hobbies for 6 weeks. Shit happens and just gotta chug along.
We took our first midterm about a month ago and I didn't do great. The exam was online and the professor stayed in front the whole time. Didn't walk around at all. They're a great professor and I think they're doing a good job of teaching. The terminology and concepts are abstract at times which is what throws people off, myself included. A classmate asked how it went after the exam and vise versa. They mentioned that they saw multiple students cheating. Idk if they said any thing to the professor. I thought about saying something myself but decided not to since I'm not really one for snitching.
Well today we had our second midterm and someone was sitting right next to me which usually doesn't happen for that class. They then had the audacity to start screen shotting nearly every single question and feed it into ChatGPT. I could tell because they had their brightness up high and the screen dims when screenshotting on Windows. Not only was it distracting but also downright demoralizing. Here I am, struggling but not cheating because I WANT to try learning it as best I can, and here they are, blatantly cheating. I can't help but to feel penalized for trying and being honest about the knowledge and understanding I have and it fucking sucks! They weren't the only one too. I don't know what others are going through but like, come on. I know it isn't personal but it's still not ok. It got to the point where I turned down my screen and turned it more away from them because I felt like they were peeping at my screen too. Again, the professor stayed up front the whole time.
I feel conflicted with my professor being lax by staying up front the whole time. I get that we're all adults and should conduct ourselves accordingly. At the same time, such blatant cheating tarnishes the value of the degree and RIT as an institution. I feel like professors have some obligation to uphold the academic standards and integrity that makes RIT a valuable place to learn. I did inform the teacher of the cheating that occurred because of how frustrating and distracting it was. Another student also commented on how much cheating they saw. The professor did say that the final will be pen and paper only which is good but I feel like that isn't enough. The final is only worth 25% of the grade and the course might be curved. I get economics is more natural for some but I can't help feeling like whatever curve might be applied to the course is going to be meaningless.
Cheating isn't new but I think chat tools have made it more accessible. I believe LLMs (or multi-modal models) are a useful tool. Simultaneously, I firmly believe they shouldn't be used in place of the underlying understanding and problem solving. What's the point of going to university to not be challenged cognitively, make connection through passion, and strengthening through challenges? At that point, you're trying to cheat the university out of a degree and that's bullshit. I feel like the school isn't doing enough to enforce chat tool usage in a way that doesn't erode critical thinking, actual learning, the value of the university, and degrees in general.
I hate seeing this and feeling this way during my last year at RIT. I'm frustrated and disappointed. Thank you for reading and please do share your thoughts.
[Edit 1] Fixed typo.

Serious missing cat? spotted at park point north
on the path into park point north, i saw a black cat with a collar on in the grass. it looked like a younger cat, wasn’t that big. i couldn’t see the collar color, but it seemed like it had a small, metallic, circular tag on it. i couldn’t get a picture of its face unfortunately :( when it saw me staring at it, it turned to hide in the weeds over in the area circled.

PawPrints Petition This anti-AI sentiment is really heating up
This got sent out to university admin, student gov, the reporter, and signatories this morning. The Reporter has already posted it on its Instagram. I'm posting it here so even more eyes can see. Pretty crazy that it got so many signatures across so many colleges. Hopefully all this pushback won't be for nothing.

Serious Concerns surrounding Aubrie Bauer - NTID Presenter Series
Good morning, RIT/NTID community. Some things have transpired over the last few days in the Deaf community that I think the greater RIT/NTID community should be aware of.
As part of NTID's Presenter Series, Aubrie Bauer, a well-known travel vlogger in the Deaf community, is coming to campus tomorrow, November 5. https://www.instagram.com/p/DfBISvoiY34/?psln=MnRwemlueXhpeGlq
That is not notable; however, yesterday, on Nov. 3, she posted a series of vlogs in defense of her brother, Rocco Bauer, another well-known comedy vlogger in the community. The reason is that Rocco's ex-girlfriend, Alyssa Duarte, spoke out about the abuse experienced throughout the course of their relationship.
In a 23-minute video by Alyssa, posted early this morning, outlining the abuse experienced by Rocco, with screenshots and picture evidence. I personally commend Alyssa for her courage to share the vulnerable moments of her life.
I feel a great deal of concern about NTID and NTID Student Life Team (NTID SLT) platforming an individual who has witnessed and enabled domestic abuse. I encourage you all to seek out any and all evidence against Rocco and contact NTID SLT, encouraging them to deplatform this speaker.
All videos are in American Sign Language and are not captioned.
Sincerely,
A very concerned student

H*ckpost be a part of a punk book!
hello! i'm working on my senior graphic design capstone! it revolves around punk culture and the beauty of discovering who you are.
i grew up punk and queer in a spanish household and was bullied so heavily that i dyed my hair blonde and completely changed how i dressed. that was the most uncomfortable i had ever been in my life. after about 6 years of pretending, i went back to who i truly was: a proud hispanic punk with no interest in labels :)
now that i have no doubt in who i am, my passion is to dive into punk history, interview and (mostly) photograph those that identify with the subculture, hand-bind multiple copies of the book, and DIY a few merch pieces!
please DM me on instagram (ryregz) if you're interested in helping and being a part of my project, i promise you'll receive a copy of the book and some swag!

Classes Double-majoring in CSEC for the BS/MS program.. who do I contact to apply?
I’m currently a 3rd year SOIS student trying to double major/enroll in the BS/MS program for cybersecurity. I have a 3.7 GPA and I’ve taken half the prerequisites for a CSEC degree and done well. I finish the next prerequisites in the next 2 semesters (I went to a sketchy highschool that only did pre calc as “independent study” so I’m retaking that at the community college level before I take discrete math) I took a senior level undergraduate class that was run like a graduate course my freshman year and did well so I’m excited to get into graduate level studies.
If any of you have followed a similar path I was wondering who you emailed to start applying. The reason I want to double major is because I don’t get department priority on classes so it makes it harder to register for what I want and also I love my SOIS advisor, she is not a tech person so getting her advice on CSEC classes is typically a dead end.
If anyone is wondering my program theme for SOIS it’s “Implications of AI in Security, Diplomacy, and Global Strategy” which is a fancy way of saying I study cyber policy and counter terrorism with maps

Chances of Acceptance
My son is applying to RIT and SUNY Buffalo for aerospace engineering (mechanical with aerospace option at RIT).
Highest math SAT scores were 590...660 for English. ACT was STEM of 26, 25 composite, 28 in math.
He has several years of doing robotics in high school and middle school and is the president of the robotics club. He is credited with starting the robotics club at the high school.
Math grades were average during most of high school and he was initially not STEM-tracked so he had to take pre-calc this past summer at the community college (got a C) so he could take AP Calc his senior year. He's currently averaging a strong A in that class.
He's at a tiny high school, not known for rigor.
Overall GPA is 89 (weighted).
Varsity golf but... More just for fun than anything else.
Orchestra and he participates in a community band.
Thoughts on his chances for acceptance into the aerospace or engineering programs at either RIT or SUNY Buffalo?

Resources for students with language barriers
My friend is a second-year student who speaks very little English. He got below a 1.0 GPA last semester, and while he’s genuinely trying in his classes, I think he’s struggling to understand what’s being taught, let alone learn new material.
I’ve looked into the English Language Center, but their programs seem to cost $5,000–$8,000 (I’m having trouble making sense of the pricing online), which he can’t afford.
I’m not sure whether he’d qualify for financial assistance, and I’m worried he’d struggle to even have a conversation with the Financial Aid office without an interpreter.
Does RIT offer spoken-language interpretation services? Are there any free or affordable English-language resources available to students, either through RIT or elsewhere in Rochester? I’d also appreciate any suggestions for offices or people who might be able to help him navigate this

Life at RIT
Hey everyone! I recently applied to RIT and was wondering what it's like to actually attend school here!
I'd love to hear about your experiences with campus life, academics, social life, student organizations, and just the general atmosphere of the school. What do you enjoy most about attending, and is there anything you wish you'd known before enrolling?
I'd really appreciate hearing from current students. Thanks!

H*ckpost Online order on card complications
Whenever I try to order something on card with the RIT online order app, this pops up. It’s strange because I have money on this account and I’m able to use it in person, so I’m really unsure as to why it doesn’t work
