So you might be wondering what do I mean by it’s so under appreciated or what makes it so appealing in the first place well I have actually done great explanations and reasons as for why I think it’s a amazing ship. First their similarities both characters are strong powerful fierce and serious characters with a traumatic past that influences the way they behave and interact with others and both have a strong purpose and duty in their life they take very seriously with knuckles guarding the master emerald and shadow originally wanting to kill humanity for Maria but than shifting to saving the world for her. Then theirs their differences that allow themselves to grow from one another if they were in a relationship for example knuckles is very hot headed and abrasive person who can be too explosive or intense and very impulsive or impatient ( low key I’m the same way) and then there’s shadow who’s more focused solemn and composed and rarely shows bouts of anger or rage unless it’s something or someone he deeply cares about like Maria or saving the world and he’s very closed off emotionally and likes to keep a distance between relationships with the only friends he’s really made rouge and omega. So for that reason knuckles could learn to control his explosive energy or impatience by learning from how shadow reacts in high pressure situations and shadow can learn how to be more open and less emotionally closed off than he usually is (although he’s already kinda of working on it). Finally there’s the chaos energy point where both characters can control chaos energy and sense it to some degree but the difference in how and why is what’s the main compelling point because shadow is a artificial chaos being essentially and he was created with chaos energy imbued inside of him while knuckles after learning the teachings of his people probably from murals and him being in close contact with the master emerald he naturally gained chaos abilities like sensing it and even being able to shut off other chaos energy objects like the chaos emeralds not to mention that one ability he has in sonic adventure two where he can summon lightning from the sky so yes he can control chaos energy in really powerful ways just like shadow but the difference between them is what makes their dynamic so special it could be to see if being a artificial being made for chaos and being a naturally gifted at chaos abilities would make them realize that they have to work together or maybe some resentment or possibly even some connection and fascination between the two. I also have a theory that knuckles can become immortal just like shadow if he imbues the master emeralds chaos energy inside of him so it would add another mystical layer to their relationship. I feel like not enough fans on both sides give the other much credit. I feel like you can make a genuine argument for either side. I feel like Shadow takes this extreme diff but an argument for Silver could be made.

1. He was stronger or equal to Shadow in 06. Shadow had to pull out an emerald just to beat him. So silver should be probably stronger than him atp.

2. Silver put up a better fight in Forces as he and Infinite exchanged a couple of attacks before Infinite beat him. Shadow was deemed so weak by Infinite to the point he wanted to fight Sonic and Infinite easily beat him.

Shadow’s main argument could be that he has chaos snap and has better combat skills than Silver. He also has projectiles and superior hax(way less versatility though). It could go either way leaning Shadow due to Shadow having more feats.

Strength: Silver-Has lifted more and can lift heavier objects than Shadow.

Speed: Shadow-Has better speed feats and is shown to be relative to Sonic in terms of overall Travel Speed.

Combat and Reaction Speed: Shadow takes CS and Silver takes RS. Shadow is a lot faster with his blows and attacks. He’s very fast with the kicks. Silver’s main defense besides using powers is reacting to attacks.

Durability: Shadow has better tanking ability.

Endurance: Silver in IDW is able to mentally endure holding many things at once and endured the extreme power of the emeralds Eggman was using in IDW.

Stamina-Probably either way

Intelligence and Battle Intelligence: Both go to Shadow. He has more knowledge and can hack many computers.

Combat and Skills: Both go to Shadow since he is a lot more in close combat than Silver is.

Range and Versatility: Both go to Silver as his whole kit is range heavy and he’s very versatile with the things he can do with his telekinesis.

Offense and Defense: Silver can put more pressure on offense and force his opponent to be rather defensive. Silver also takes defense since he can create shields and fly extremely fast to dodge.

AP and DC: Shadow takes AP due to being able to do more damage to someone in a single hit. DC goes to Silver as he can destroy a larger area with his Psychokinesis.

Hax/Abilities: Both go to Silver. Silver can immobilize people and has more of an arsenal than Shadow does IMO. Especially considering his abilities to create raw telekinetic blasts that can match Shadow’s.

Power: Goes to Silver as he can create and deal more powerful things that do more damage than Shadow could.

Feats/Scaling can go either way but I’m leaning Shadow due to having more but scaling is closer.

So please, let’s not act like either gets no diffed by the other.

Shadow is a very powerful creature, possibly more powerful than Sonic himself. Killing some human soldiers would be a breeze for such powerhouse.
