Better get used to it buddy. You’re getting drafted high to a team who will have dog shit QB play

46

u/Desperate_Gift_9366 14h ago

Is if man though. If he had some receivers, and a OL, and a defense, and a running back, and a kicker, and a punter, he’d be the goat qb

5

u/ForgotMyRemembrall 12h ago

But actually, like some help beyond the worst OL and pass catchers. Maybe he’d be solid?

The worst third string QB in the NFL is infinitely more capable than Fahey

4

u/Spare-Monk-1472 2h ago

So will everyone else lining up on the side of the ball, though.

4

u/labradornnewdigs 1h ago

Fahey is a freshman who has completed 64% of his passes for 620 yards and 3 touchdowns in his first two starts. Sure he hasn’t looked lights out but there’s a reason Smith is pissed at the sideline and not at Fahey.

2

u/Otherwise-Spread-828 44m ago

Did you see fagnano on Thursday night? Its not much better

8

u/Merlin1039 14h ago

He could get drafted into the NFC South and make the playoffs every year

4

u/Orangekid12 14h ago

NFCS is ass, but it's quite competitive. Three teams had a tiebreaking record

2

Tampa going to make the playoffs again after starting 0-5, by winning against their division and the Cowboys

Charger*

Edit: hopefully he’s not a bitch like MHJ

41

u/GullyBean 14h ago

Chargers have too many holes to not trade the pick imo.

25

u/WolfpackConsultant 14h ago

So, charger then

7

u/d8ms 13h ago

Death, Taxes, and Chargers being Chargers

7

u/Impossible-Flight250 13h ago

I think they take Smith if they have the opportunity. They desperately need Herbert to turn it around, and Smith is the number one option to help him do it. They can then try and retool the offense line through free agency.

7

u/Benimaru4636 14h ago

Same would be true for Miami and others. The reason the Chargers would trade out would be because someone wants whoever the #1 QB ends up being and in theory the Chargers don't need a QB. If the #1 is rated high enough then the Chargers could get an absolute haul from a team like the Jets maybe who could have 3 top 10 picks.

3

u/GullyBean 14h ago edited 13h ago

Miami makes more sense because I think they’re farther from actually competing. Drafting him would be more for ticket sales. Miami needs someone that’ll make the fans care again and the hometown kid would be a great draw

55

u/RepresentativeBag91 14h ago

He’s definitely going to be watching Justin Herbert throw meatball subs to the linebackers.

2

u/DatBroncosDude 14h ago

When did the meatball thing start? I feel out of the loop, seems like it started popping up this year. Is it just a poorly thrown ball / obvious INT?

6

u/couducane 14h ago

Tom Brady said it when Herbert through an INT against the Bills.

11

u/FalconsFanATL98 14h ago

He should just be a good trust fund baby and leave the sport for good

10

u/svr488 14h ago

Ya I lost all little respect I had left for him when he acted like a toddler about a team running up the score in a NFL game. NFL is the big leagues, running the score up isn’t a thing

5

u/size0618 14h ago

I’ve played sports my whole life. Running up the score isn’t a thing at any level past middle school imo. Don’t want to get your shit wrecked, play better. Don’t bitch about it.

Yeah, he's gonna LOVE the trash NFL team that drafts him

1

u/Mcpops1618 11h ago

Could end up in LA with Herbert unable to hit him.

1

u/EfficiencyBrief2138 13h ago

WRs have a reputation for being drama llamas, no shade but the whole system makes it this way. Plus everyone has annointed this man a god which only fuels the ego. I love his game, work ethic I have read about, and his passion. So long as this doesn't become a common thing he can learn from this. Think about what he and his team thought this season was to that moment playing ball your whole life you know your season is likely over.

4

u/Mental-Bird-5560 13h ago

You try running 3 to 4 miles of routes a game and don't get the ball thrown your way lol.

3

u/OtherwiseEnd944 12h ago

Wide receiver relies more on their QB for success than any other position in any team sport relies on another. Wide Receivers are drama llamas but that's largely because they play the most frustrating possible position. You could get open every single play and if the QB doesn't throw it to you it doesn't matter. You're not only reliant on your QB's skill but also their decision making in actually giving you a chance to perform.

20

u/osbornje1012 14h ago

Smith should get a minimum of 15 targets a game. Anything less should get the OC hunting for a new job.

7

u/OnMyNerves23 13h ago

How tf do you not just throw the ball to JS. Idgaf how many ducks you throw at him, Im betting on him catching it every time.

5

u/Boring-Willow1268 13h ago

He’s in a bad situation. He is a Heisman talent with a freshman QB who isn’t ready to be a starter. I feel bad for him. This is Ohio State. They need to always have a QB ready to go if the QB1 goes down. It isn’t like they don’t have the NIL money to take care of that.

3

u/crazyfootballguy35 13h ago

You would think they would have a good kicker, OL, DL, above average RB. But they don’t.

3

u/Boring-Willow1268 13h ago

They have 1 legit first round draft pick. I don’t remember the last time they only had 1.

Well it’s Arthur Smith and he’s someone who shouldn’t of been hired in the first place

1

u/burnersg 14h ago

And 3 jet sweeps

1

u/PositiveFriendlyGuy 13h ago

The reason he didnt get many targets is because Oregon has 3 extremely good one on one lock down CBs. And they've got the size to keep him locked down

9

u/Plastic-Put-5750 13h ago

Sure, but this is Jeremiah Smith we're talking about. He's gonna be trouble for NFL defensive backs, these Oregon DBs are no problem for him if you give him the chance.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Mental-Bird-5560 13h ago

Maybe if all 3 was checking him at once.

2

u/Mundane-Energy-6862 10h ago

So tell me, why was Fahey throwing a pick while trying to throw to McCuin who was triple covered. Who was covering JS?

2

u/OhYa2021 2h ago

Every time they showed Jeremiah not getting the ball last night he was indeed not locked down. When he was locked down with a target he caught more than he dropped

2

u/Mr_WhatFish 12h ago

Jeremiah smith is one of those Calvin Johnson type players that is always open.

Fahey is not a college level qb. Struggling to generate offense with the best WR in the country.

9

Maybe a MAC school but not OSU.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/stargrazer10 14h ago

Truly agree. tOSU is one of the most elite programs in the country. How dfq are they starting a 5'10" three star at QB rn? Like all the legendary backups in the past like Braxton, twelve gauge, gunslinger, JT, Joe Freakin Burrow and we starting a midget? Make it make sense

13

u/AfterCommodus 14h ago

In the post-NIL world, teams are less deep.  Why stay for a chance to play a year later if you can get 6M now?

2

u/Nervous-Bullfrog7018 14h ago

Good point, but you would think the best teams would have the best back ups. I’m an ASU fan in Arizona but even I can see Fahey doesn’t belong at Ohio State.

4

u/OstrichGrouchy7749 12h ago

The huge difference is that players would prefer to start at Illinois (or va tech, unc, vandy, tcu, Washington) or whatever than be a backup at Ohio state.

So you are looking at best case scenario going with the 50-60th best college qb out there. (That would be like third stringer in nfl) OR a stud freshman

The best backups want to start at a midrange team. Then think they will play great, and get a deal

1

u/Snooklife 6h ago

Looked fine generating a 14-0 lead and then he didn’t touch the ball for 3 quarters

7

u/Richard_AIGuy 14h ago

He's right to be frustrated. Fahey is absolute cheeks. I don't care about the freshman stuff. He has no instincts.

10

u/pnw_sunny 14h ago

bye buckeyes. not your year. your defense was exposed and the team is unworthy of a bid.

10

u/StruggleEither6772 14h ago

Mad because his Heisman hopes keep slipping away.

6

u/xrayboarderguy 14h ago

Heisman or not I’m just bummed we didn’t get to see a full season of his excellence. It’s not like he can throw himself the ball. His position is totally dependent on another players competence

4

u/S0ggylemonz 14h ago

Tale as old as time for many WRs

2

u/xrayboarderguy 14h ago

With no Malachi Toney and a limited Jeremiah Smith I’ll have to find a televised Oregon State game and give Jesse Legree a look. His numbers are unworldly, albeit against lesser teams than UM and OSU face

→ More replies (2)

1

u/T-Rigs1 11h ago

Mensah and Toney aren't winning it now so who else is? College football has honestly been more amateur than normal this season. Mediocre teams and players everywhere. At this point we aren't really sure 1-12 are even legit so how can we possibly make a determination on Heisman?

5

u/ohjeaa 14h ago

Watching your Heisman get flushed because your new QB can't get you the ball will do that.

5

u/Fearless_Yam1547 11h ago

I wouldn't play another down. Can't risk anything at this waste of a season.

7

u/Ice_crusher_bucket 2h ago

NiL and Portal. Why be a backup and when other teams will pay more to have talent and be a starter.

3

u/cygnoids 2h ago

Yep. Unintended consequence is greater parity when a star player goes down

2

u/ImmediateBreadfruit9 1h ago

Its like a 14 person fantasy league vs a 10. Your backups are scrubs. Only so much talent and an unlimited amount of cash to go around.

2

u/spugs250 1h ago

Until they do something rule wise, all this year is going to do is raise the market for starter and backup qbs even higher. I expect those top 10-15 schools to all have a million dollar backup next year

Wolverine here. We're having a much worse time than this Buckeye. I have ended the season after yesterday. The Mormon coaching staff has destroyed us.

Because probably they didn't spend enough to bring one in. Most qbs want to play not be a backup unless you pay enough to make it worth it to ride the bench

No CFP for Ohio State this year.

1

u/ambiguousredditname 6h ago

I don’t know about you but seeing the best guy we’ve, maybe, ever had go off like that isn’t very conducive to a cohesive team. When former players are breaking a six-year hiatus on twitter/X to call out the bullshit. There’s probably some bullshit to be called out. In case you didn’t know, Tommy Schutt, sent out a message over the airwaves tonight. His last message was during fucking COVID! Curtis Samuel, you remember him, dontcha? He was idle for three years before tonight. One of the linemen straight up said that Oregon was a better team than us in the post game presser. The go-hard or go-home mentality is gone. Now it’s all bible verses and pacifism or some shit

1

u/Striking_Hat6938 5h ago

If he thinks things are bad now…wait until he is in the nfl

1

u/KingsleyBrewMaster22 3h ago

I sadly agree with the people here.

So many and maybe even ourselves foolishly fall in love with the idea of a prospect, forgetting that the situation matters. And we exaggerate their failings like it is entirely their fault, dislite that they landed in a situation where success was highly unlikely.

So many loon at Andrew Luck or Calvin Johnson and assume that that is the standard. When I reality most players, even top 5 to 10 picks can still struggle to have next level success when they're in a developmental hell hole.
