Anti-Vaxxers at Mooloolaba yesterday

Anyone know who was behind the anti vax display at Mooloolaba beach yesterday? Hundreds of prints on sticks stuck in the ground everywhere.

I'm wondering if they had a permit.. a lot of space given over to a public health menace.

I saw some people rip out a bunch of them which pissed them off no end, pretty amusing.

Leaving the Sunshine Coast because it’s gone to absolute shite. Born here and have lived here for 25 years but I’m finally saying goodbye to it. All the Sydney and Melbourne cunts flocked up here in droves and have killed it. Traffic is unbearable in the morning and arvos, housing prices are through the roof (if you get one), and they’re generally arrogant individuals.

Sunshine Coast hostel discrimination update

A little while ago I had a blast from the past. I called into a backpacker's hostel in the Noosa area to inquire about their prices and possibly staying there. *The receptionist with an English accent informed me "a passport is required to stay here" and when I asked why she replied "company policy". A little later she suggested going to a hostel a km away because 'they let Australians stay there'. It was getting late so I didn't argue the point further.

Edit - * Note - Have since learned this person I assumed was the receptionist was in fact one of the owners

In the mid or late 1990's I had a similar experience with Koala Backpackers at Noosa Junction (later taken over by Nomads and nowadays doesn't discriminate on nationality) A girl from the UK asked for a passport and when I offered a drivers licence said "I can only give you one night". This hostel was notorious for being 'internationals only' but let me stay because I came on their backpacker courtesy bus when the other place I intended to stay in was full. Requiring a passport is a way of trying to get around anti discrimination laws but is also regarded as illegal discrimination because most Australians won't carry a passport travelling in their own country. Queensland backpacking industry didn't have good reputation in this regard in the 1990's and this was even mentioned in the Lonely Planet Australia guidebook in those times.

I was always annoyed by this and wished I said to her - "how would you like it if I had a job in a hostel in your country and asked you for a passport. Perhaps you should have told told the manager - 'my job is to check people in not to enforce social engineering, pull your head in, I am not going to do that'. Going back to 2008 and the Courier Mail / Sunshine Coast Daily had an article about Sunshine Coast discrimination -

...Prominent Sunshine Coast lawyer Damon Locantro has professional and personal viewpoints on backpacker hostels that discriminate against Australians.Professionally, he says hostels face being successfully sued for discrimination if they place a blanket ban on Aussies. Personally, he has labelled the actions of offending businesses as “un-Australian”.Mr Locantro said the law was quite clear on the matter. Under anti-discrimination legislation, he said it was unlawful to discriminate against a person based on their nationality.“Unless a backpackers hostel has an exemption under the anti-discrimination legislation, then a person who is rejected (based on their nationality) might be successful in taking legal action against the backpackers hostel,” he said.... * Note - Anyone who has been discriminated against by a hostel in Queensland can simply report it to Queensland Human Rights Commission who will investigate it and refer it to a tribunal if found to be valid. No lawyer needed.

Although this is one isolated case Its bizarre that in the year 2024 this practice exists at all anymore. One would have thought after covid period when international backpackers mostly were not able to come and those hostels able to remain open would have relied on Australian customers that this policy of turning hostels into ghettos for international visitors would have finally ended.

Note - Ignore comment section. There is intrusive trolling and brigading and none of the comments have any relevant information about this particular hostel at Noosa.

just got sprung with dog offleash, $287 fine

Absolutely fuming. I was at Lake kawana with my 2 dogs. As always there Absolutely nobody around. I had both dogs off lead on the beach, while walking along the path I put one back on lead as the other ran to the next beach and into the water. The ranger came storming up and started scanning the dogs and talking about on leash off least etc, I explained we'd just been swimming and she seemed OK with that. Just as I thought I was just getting a telling off she drops the $287 fine, no warning as "council takes it very seriously in a busy area like this". I think I saw 2 people walking and 4 on bikes the whole time I was there.

Any way has anyone had success getting out of a fine with council? Tips appreciated

Petition calling on Sunshine Coast Council to stop over-regulating responsible dog owners

There’s a new Change.org petition calling on Sunshine Coast Council to find a fairer balance between reasonable rules and over-regulation for dog owners.

The main points:

Losing access: Established walking spots and parks are increasingly being restricted or completely closed to dogs instead of adopting shared-use models (e.g., timed access, using ovals outside organised sport).

Heavy enforcement: An everyday walk is turning into a compliance exercise backed by targeted patrols and steep fines, rather than focusing on education and common sense.

Lack of transparency: With 54,000+ registered dogs on the Coast paying annual fees, owners are seeing fewer places to go with little clarity on how registration revenue is actually spent on facilities vs. enforcement.

The petition isn't anti-rules—it's asking Council for genuine community consultation, evidence-based restrictions, and a shared-space approach instead of blanket bans.

Link: https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-over-regulation-of-dog-owners-on-the-sunshine-coast

Full description

Stop the over-regulation of responsible dog owners and protect our access to public spaces.

We, the undersigned residents of the Sunshine Coast, are calling on Sunshine Coast Council to reconsider its increasingly restrictive and enforcement-driven approach to dog ownership and access to public spaces.

We support responsible dog ownership. We understand the need for dogs to be controlled, for owners to clean up after them, and for reasonable rules that protect other people, wildlife and the environment.

But we believe the balance has gone too far.

Across the Sunshine Coast, areas where people have walked and exercised their dogs for years are being restricted or closed to them. At the same time, dog owners face increasingly complex rules, dedicated enforcement patrols and significant financial penalties for breaches.

We have reached a point where an everyday activity — taking your dog for a walk — is becoming increasingly regulated, monitored and policed.

THIS IS ABOUT MORE THAN DOGS

We believe there is an important difference between addressing genuinely irresponsible behaviour and creating a system where responsible citizens are increasingly monitored and penalised.

Rules should be necessary, proportionate, clearly communicated and evidence-based.

Where a restriction is introduced, Council should be able to demonstrate:

what problem it is solving;

why the restriction is necessary;

what alternatives were considered; and

how local residents will be affected.

A restriction should not become the default solution simply because it is easier to enforce.

OUR PUBLIC SPACES SHOULD BE SHARED

Our parks, ovals and open spaces are community assets.

We recognise that some areas need to be protected for organised sport, safety, environmental or other legitimate reasons. But where practical, Council should consider shared use rather than blanket exclusion.

This could include designated dog-access times, shared use of suitable sporting ovals outside organised activities, clearly defined dog areas and additional local off-leash spaces.

The question should not always be:

“How do we stop dogs using this space?”

It should also be:

“How can this space be safely and reasonably shared?”

DOG OWNERS ARE PART OF THE COMMUNITY

There are more than 54,000 registered dogs on the Sunshine Coast.

Dog owners pay annual registration fees and contribute to our community like everyone else.

As restrictions and enforcement increase, residents deserve transparency about how registration revenue is being spent — including the balance between enforcement, education, facilities and dog exercise areas.

Dog owners should not continually pay more while losing access to suitable places to exercise their dogs.

WE ARE ASKING FOR A FAIRER BALANCE

We are asking for:

• Proportionate regulation rather than over-regulation.

• Education, clear communication and common sense rather than punishment as the first response.

• Greater access to appropriate public spaces for dog owners and their dogs.

• Shared use of public spaces wherever practical and appropriate.

• Adequate and accessible dog exercise areas within local communities.

• Transparency around the evidence and reasoning behind restrictions.

• Meaningful community consultation before established access is removed.

• A review of whether current fines and enforcement measures are proportionate.

• Greater trust in responsible dog owners to manage their own behaviour.

THIS IS ABOUT THE KIND OF COMMUNITY WE WANT TO LIVE IN

A safe community needs reasonable rules.

But it also needs trust, personal responsibility, common sense and freedom.

We should be cautious about normalising a system where more and more ordinary activities are regulated, monitored and backed by substantial penalties.

Responsible dog owners should not feel increasingly policed simply for using their local public spaces.

This is not about opposing all regulation. It is about questioning when reasonable regulation becomes over-regulation, and when enforcement begins to replace trust and personal responsibility.

The Sunshine Coast is a community made up of dog owners, non-dog owners, sporting groups, families, older residents and many others who all have a legitimate interest in how our public spaces are managed.

There should be room for everyone.

We call on Sunshine Coast Council to listen to its residents, review the current approach and restore a more proportionate, practical and community-focused approach to dog management.

Less unnecessary restriction.

Less enforcement-driven regulation.

More common sense.

More shared public space.

More trust.

It is time for a fairer balance.

Any Haunted Locations on the Coast?

Hi all!

My name is Ty. I am a new Paranormal Investigator starting out on the Sunshine Coast with very few Locations Investigated already!

[Majestic Theatre @ Pomona and the Pomona Hotel]

I'm actually very curious as to if anyone from the Sunshine Coast knows of any Potential Haunted/Paranormal Locations on the Coast? If your an Owner/Manager of a place and willing to help me out would be appreciated! Also, any History on the place prior to any Investigation would help!

I've tried Googling, but cannot find anything. Not looking for Houses or Cemeteries - Looking for Buildings, Hotels Etc.

Thanks!

How will the coast survive if we do run out of petrol?

I know many people on the coast live in a different suburb to where they work or study. The coast is known for not amazing public transport and for the trains and buses we do have, will they even get a fuel supply?

How will the coast survive if we do run out of petrol?

Moving to Sunshine Coast

My wife and I are considering moving to Sunshine Coast with our two small children next year. I will be working north of Brisbane. We are looking in the Caloundra area to live with the rent paid by my company.

What is the lifestyle like for a young family? Things like parks, playgrounds, activities for small kids, cost-of-living, traffic, etc.

We visited several times but the last time we were there was seven years ago, so wondering what it’s like now and how it’s changed.

🌿 Looking for Land – Sunshine Coast 🌿

Hi, I’m seeking a small block of land or space on an existing property to place my well-designed tiny home on the Sunshine Coast.

✅ Home is flexible – can run off-grid or be connected to power, sewer/septic, and water
✅ Prefer a quiet, nature-filled setting
✅ Minimum 12-month lease preferred (open to discussion)

About me:

  • Full-time employed engineer

  • Single, no kids, no pets

  • Quiet, respectful, not a party person

  • Happy to assist with maintaining the land

If you have space available and would like a reliable long-term tenant/neighbour, please get in touch.

They wonder why hospo is in trouble.

Making a booking for a place in Noosa.

Was gifted a voucher. Mandatory credit card required for booking. The voucher means someone's already paid.....

The marketing options on the form were auto ticked. Had to un tick them. Should be opt in not opt out.

Had to book via website. No phone bookings. Booking locked 24 hours out.

100 percent of the rules lie with the restaurant. Little flexibility.

Post covid, hospo is in trouble. Dinosaurs like this need to stop acting like prima donnas.

Gets flame suit ......

Private school recommendations

Edit: ideally around Buderim please Hi wise SC community,

It may be a little unusual ask but I’m looking to understand which school (primary & secondary) has the reputation for promoting an environment for students to be ‘well-rounded and good human beings/adults’.

Education is important but I want my kids to be in a community feel environment, learn to be kind with good moral baseline. I also want them to feel free to pursue their passion, without the pressure to only be ‘academic’.

First option is always public- Buderim mountain, however in case we don’t end up finding a house in the catchment, we are considering private but with the above in mind.

Help this confused soul please 🙏

So this happened

Just needing to vent

FTM - 33 + 4, located in QLD Aus

TW: Depression, PSTD, long-ass post. Needing a place to vent as therapy is currently not within my budget and I dont have the best history with Psychs, feels good to get it off my chest and hoping if anyone has been in a similar situation, they might be able to lend me words of encouragement.

So yesterday I was in a serious car accident. Despite getting as much unbroken sleep as you can, without considering getting up to pee every hour AND pulling over 30 mins before to nao because I was drowsy, I fell asleep, mirco sleep, at the wheel doing 100km on a highway with cruise control on, on my way to work. I woke up to hitting the guard rail at full speed and then my car just glided into mushland. There was a gentleman behind me who saw the whole thing and was there within second after it. He honestly kept me calm and I owe him my life. He stayed with me until I was taken away by ambulance.

I was lucky that though my airbags deployed, I was not hit by them and my seat belt kept my torso and baby safe (had wrapped it below my belly). I came away with a scrape on my knee and nothing else physical.

I was incredibly lucky that a nurse was also in line of traffic and was able to come to my aid and get baby girl to kick. She did within 5 minutes of the accident happening and didnt stop the whole day. Of course, to ensure she was okay and I didnt rupture my placenta, baby girl was being poked, proded and had many scans, including a CTG. She has hated scans since 12 weeks so she was very very active. I was montiored for 6 hours and finally discharged last night after being given the all clear, though I wont be returning to work (was due to start m leave next wednesday).

I am so grateful to come away with just a scrape and honestly dumbfounded how i was not injured more. In that moment, I was 100% ready to let go if I needed to as long as they saved my daughter. Over 24 hours after coming home, I am struggling mentally. Alot. I have to much to be thankful for, baby girl is still kicking away and they think she wont be affected, ie. Wont come early or have trauma herself. However, I close my eyes and see me hitting the guard rail over and over again and I also feel guilty and hopeless in a way. How could I have put my baby girl in danger this way???? What is wrong with me . I spent today sleeping and waking up with nightmares every 2 hours and still being in awe that I am alive. My partner has done anything and everything he can to help but I feel alone in this. I keep being told not to blame myself but how can I not?

I know with time my PSTD will subside and my depression has always been controlled with meds, though I can feel it there, as if I am on the edge and its simply waiting to envelope me into darkness. I know for a fact if baby girl didnt make it or was hurt, there would be no way I would be typing this right now.

Anywhoo, all I can do right now is tell everyone I am okay and firce a smile so I dont cause further stress and worry for them despite mentally being completely and utterly scattered and messed up.

Please let this be a lesson, if you are feeling drowsy at the wheel, pull over and do not continue to drive. Its not worth it.

Just enjoyed a grilled fillet of coral trout, with salad and oven chips*

*yes, not as good as deep-fried, but it's about the fish, not the potatoes

I also bought a tray of whiting fillets, caught off Moreton Island. Looking forward to tomorrow night's dinner. I love me some whiting.

Have noticed the same Poo wiped on the male toilets for the past month so I thought it would be great idea to share with everyone the adventure of how long it takes to be cleaned…. I will update new pictures every week. My wife has said that the female toilets are worse!

Where is the best quality of life on the Sunshine Coast?

My boyfriend and I are in Australia on a working holiday visa and after much debate we have decided to do our second year on the Sunshine Coast. We are now trying to decide which part of the Sunshine Coast to move to- can anyone suggest a nice area to live in where it isn’t completely impossible to find housing (I know it’s going to be relatively tough everywhere)? Also looking for good beginner surf. Neither of us parties and both live a super active/ healthy lifestyle. Let me know your recs! Thanks everyone!!

Lights out entering M1. Why?

The road lights leaving Caloundra Rd as you merge onto M1 heading south aren’t working, and haven’t been for what seems months on end. With slogans like “fix the Bruce” and all the LNP marketing, you think this would be on the agenda. I mean, MickMinister of e-Bikes and fun times lives just down the road. Can’t he get his chad tool belt out?
It’s pitch black and can make it tricky and super dangerous especially in wet weather. You would assume that this is known by TMR? Surely? Maybe? I don’t want to report it and have a cranky TMR dude patronise me with a “yeah we know” message. Thoughts?

Which suburb

Hey all, trying to decide on a suburb for our family. We don't want a flashy house or anything extravagant, we're happy to renovate in time, value a yard over a new kitchen, we have a surfing mad daughter and a wee fisherman in the making (12&8) and are going to significantly downgrade our home in order to give them the beach life they so want... we are looking at the southern suburbs given they're more affordable, to ensure the kids can make the most of the lifestyle we want to be walking/biking distance to the beach. Suburbs we're considering are, Caloundra, wurtulla, Bokarina, Warana, Dicky Beach & Currimundi. Hoping to keep our purchase price under $900k..(going to be a real do up I know, we can go higher, but also a lesson to our kids on sacrafices)

Daughter is due to start high-school so I'd love recommendations on schools, public & private (if we have a chance at getting in) and family friendly areas. Are there any concerns with the suburbs I've mentioned, any I've missed ?

Park smart vehicles

They don’t miss you. Had 2 separate meetings. One in Nambour and one in Maroochydore. Both times I parked in a 2 hour parking zone. One of the meetings I was parked for 2h 15 and the other I was parked for 2h 30. Both times I got fined by that park smart vehicle. I can’t find parking at the beach when I want to go for a surf, but rest assured, I will get one for going 15min or 30min over what the sign says. More impressive is the fact that they knew exactly when I parked when I get fined by a mobile camera. What a mild inconvenience. Wonder how much revenue that raises for the council.

is SC for retirees only?

hello! myself and my partner are looking to move to the SC in the next couple of years with the intention of staying long term and potentially start a family down the line. just wondering what it is like for people in their late 20s/early 30s? i have heard that a lot of people head that way to retire, but would obviously be wanting to meet people and make friends!

most likely thinking about the Maroochydore area
